I love Ghost Hunting TV shows like Ghost Adventures with Zak Bagans, Paranormal State with Ryan Buell, Most Haunted with Derek Acorah and Yvette Fielding, Paranormal Lockdown with Nick Groff, TAPS, Ryan and Shane's Buzzfeed Unsolved Supernatural/The Watcher and so many more. But I always wondered whether Ghost Hunting Reality TV shows are legit? Are they real or is it on big lie? Is their ‘evidence’ fake or do they capture objective and real evidence of the paranormal during their investigations? In this video I break down alleged comments from ex employees and producers of those shows and discuss whether they are credible. I hope you enjoy.

I briefly worked on a Travel Channel paranormal show (not a major one) We were called to this run-down old hotel. Hours go by....nothing. Then, around 0300 we hear a thump above us. Then clattering and an eerie yodelling sound. All the show staff got all excited and were climbing over each other to get up the stairs and investigate. The ' paranormal activity ' turned out to be 'normal poodle activity '. The building manager had her 80lb poodle sleeping in a far room to keep him out of our way, and forgot to tell anyone 😂 The disappointment was the funniest part

@@hauntedcorgi9663there's actually a building in a city that I like to visit during the summer where ghost shows have been. And there's ghost stories and tours. I remember actually doing a deep dive into the actual history of the building and the stories. Apparently the stories didn't start until after the building was converted into a hotel and they traced it down to a nearby bartender who kinda mixed in a little bit of history with made up tragedy. (And they are cliche but people eat those up) And the actual history has its own bit of tragedy as well as the history of the city's first mayor who built it. Which I thought was way more interesting because it was basically an immigrants "American Dream" type story and how he basically put the small port town on the map. So you got this cool story then you got ghost shows saying "some woman threw herself out the window and a monk hung himself in the attic" lol

Ghost Adventures came to do an episode here at an actual seasonal haunted Halloween attraction that's built inside an old Farmer John slaughterhouse. I know the owner and he just poured made up stories into Zak's ear for a couple hours and they just ate it up. All kinds of stuff about suicides and Satanic rituals, none of which are true, but sure enough they found lots of 'evidence' thanks to a building full of audio equipment and well coached employees. Of course, a seasonal haunt has to keep the bills paid even when it's not October, so the whole thing was a marketing ploy to get people in the door for the off season 'ghost hunts'... since his attempt to bring in off season cash with zombie laser tag didn't work...

While walking down a hall by myself, my camera caught a man crying, scared and I verbally heard him scream "don't kill me!" Ofcourse the hallway was empty and I didn't hear it in person. My omg it's real deal happened when my bud and I stayed late painting an office. We put a box of pens bought for this specific sale. Had very on the spot ad on them. I placed them on the floor and joked someone could write all week with them. We came back in morning....pens were placed evenly all around the room. They were clicked. A dote was in the middle all around and a perfect line went to the floor ...pens sat on bottom. Not one person I know could have stagged this. Speed ahead into winter ❄️. Over the parts room a water line broke. I had to buy a special ladder to climb up into the overhead. Got up there where no one had been for years. Found one of the weird ad pens and an arrow drawn to the leak. Not one person had been up there. Plus the pen....? I fixed it and got out. I live in a 150 year old.house and I've always suspected I have a couple of spirits knocking about. At first some odd stuff happened but, five years later, I think they've gotten used to me. However, if they started playing up I wouldn't have any of those shows near the place, not that they'd come to Scotland anyway. I work as a security manager for a site that was once a former Victorian psychiatric complex and I'd say at least three of the buildings are haunted. None of those little taps, "Oooh, I heard something" nonsense, proper banging and crashing in the middle of the night but they never do it to order, I might get nothing for months then it all comes together. I visited Ohio State Reformatory a couple of years back and I got talking to a tour guide. She had nothing good to say about paranormal teams (and the big ones have all been there). She said the place was definitely haunted but, again, they don't do it to order so the shows blatantly faked stuff.. She picked up one team in particular. Let's just say it was "three guys and no big camera crews" she said the stuff they came up with was a load of bollocks (I'm paraphrasing, Americans don't say bollocks but you get my drift.)

Some of what you described reminds me of a place I lived in for a couple years. My roommate and I were aware there was a lot of activity in our rental, but it didn't really hit home just how much until we had this lovely family of four live in the basement unit below ours for a while. They often said that the baby didn't sleep at night. My roommate and I often worked late hours then would have our post-work smokes together in the back mudroom (aka "our smoking room" since it wasn't really used for anything else.) While talking and polluting our lungs, we'd hear a bunch of banging around and stuff coming from our neighbors laundry room beneath our smoking room. We'd look at eachother "What the hell is [the dad] doing down there at this hour??" We assumed it was the dad, being as they didn't have a washer/dryer and their laundry room was used as his tool room where he'd sometimes work on projects. "No wonder the baby doesn't sleep at night!" Well, the nice family eventually moved out and for a while the unit sat empty. But my roommate and I kept hearing that banging at night coming from there. It wasn't any squatters and what are the odds squatters would be making the exact same noises in the exact same room at the same time every night as when that sweet family lived down there? My roommate and I just looked at eachother the first night after they moved out "Guess it wasn't him at all this whole time...: A few tenants later....oh man, that entity really didn't like them for whatever reasons....they got everything out of there and it slammed the door behind them, didn't give them a chance to shut it. I thought it was them at first, but they were both visibly shook "...That wasn't us..." then "Thank God we're outta here!" I moved out not long after them. Not necessarily because of the activity, but it certainly was getting more active. I don't miss invisible roommates that don't help pay the rent. There's so many more stories about that place...and other places I've lived in...but that's what yours reminded me of Oh and this old house being used for offices or whatever that I cleaned a couple times...next door to my old place, actually....they had me go down to their basement and do some dusting. I had that creepy feeling of being watched the whole time I was dusting. There were these large Christmas caroling dolls down there that they'd had out front for the holidays. When I went down there, the girl one in fronts head wasn't facing the stairs I came down. I did not touch them; they freaked me out just existing. But when I was about to go back up the stairs? Girl was facing me! Looking right at me! I raced upstairs and couldn't wait to gtfo that place! Ofc it was next door to mine, so I'd stare it down every time I was looking out my kitchen window. Never went back there again. I do not want to play with Christmas Carol Chucky or any of her friends!

Already posted about this, it did lead me to think that GA was not all fake… a decade ago though. I’m a French guy from Montreal. Once, I was watching one more of them episodes filmed in an Old West establishment of some sort. Bagans was at his peak of what I think was intense use of speed. Incidentally, he was bursting with ideas aimed at making ghosts react. In that one specific episode (so sorry I don’t remember which one), ZB addressed himself to a prostitute and offered her roses. Here’s the kicker : GA got an answer, but couldn’t decipher zilch. At the very least, they suggested that it was probably a foreign language… and they were right! The answer is in French, with the typical accent from France (as opposed to Quebec’s). You clearly hear a woman saying: « Je vous remercie », which is a formal way of saying thank you. I was speechless.

I watched a recent interview with Jason Hawl and he said that a family called TAPS and told them that their daughter was possessed by a demon. They found out that the daughter had mental health issues and refused to shoot the episode; later the family found someone that agreed that their daughter was possessed, and the show shot an episode. Some of these people are predatory, but some of them try and it is sad that you cannot tell which one is which.

as a skeptic ive had two things happen in my life that couldn't be explained and both times had someone there to witness it with me. i'm still somewhat a skeptic, at least to what these shows seem to present but do believe in residual energy. ive tried to debunk both situations to no avail. one included a small panel of wood that was dislodged after a friend of mine fell from a ladder. it led into my garage and was used for processing wine by my great grandfather after the 1906 earthquake in san francisco. my mother had my neighbor nail it shut, but one night when me and my friend ernesto went to go grab a nintendo game that we left in the cellar ( our makeshift clubhouse at the time) that same board flew completely across the room and broke into two pieces on the opposite side of the wall. i tried telling myself it was pressure build up and we created a vacuum when we opened the door but the opposing garage was the size of my entire house so there was no way that entire room could have filled with pressure and no way 11 year old me could have opened the door with a force so strong to pull a nailed piece of wood from the wall and send it straight across the room.

I watched a couple of these ghost hunting shows, just for the heck of it. Always amused me when one of the crew would suddenly look up & say, "Did you hear that?" or "Did you see that?" , & several other crew members would confirm they did, too. Even if I watched the segment several times, I never saw/heard anything out of the ordinary. I got the same feeling when they'd break out the "ghost boxes". They claimed to hear words & sentences in what always sounded like random noise to me, no matter how many times I listened to it. I think it their brains playing tricks on them, b/c they wanted it to be real - or faking it b/c it wasn't.

Have none of you ever had a business? I think Watcher is an amazing production company and it’s really too bad a loud portion of their audience can’t understand what a business decision is. Clearly they are growing and needed to be able to pay their employees decent wages which you would probably have manufactured outrage if it ever came out they weren’t paying the talented crew properly. I was a Patron for their first two years and I looked at it as crowdfunding or more like an investment in a company I believe in. The Ghoul boys plus Steven are ethical businessman and it’s sad the audience doesn’t value what they get from Watcher which is amazing, professional, and smart entertainment.

In the two homes I experienced things, what happened was completely random timing. In the house my parents lived for 22 years, I experienced 4 things. Twice was the same silhouette of a man years apart. I did a house genealogy and there was a 42 year old man who died in the house, as well as his young child (I forget if they were 7 or 9 years old). I figured maybe the silhouette was the man watching over me, since he lost his son so young, and wanted to watch over us. My mom passed in the house just last Christmas, so I hope she moved to my house with me so that she's not still there. Otherwise, the next owners better not yell at her calling her a demon like Zak DoucheBaggans does to every ghost.

Upon investigating and visiting the site myself… the tour guide admitted they had hired a care taker who owned a dog to be onsite at all times. This land and his dog for fact was on site on the second floor when BuzzFeed was filming. I believe in ghosts things have happened to me. The most interesting was a kid our neighbour asked about the old lady in our garden by the roses , we were out that day, no visitors and no old ladies, she gave a detailed description which was a description of my great grandmother who she had never met and we had no photos of her in the house where anyone could see her, the rose bushes had been transplanted from her garden, not sure why she would want to come back and check the roses but apparently she did. I know very well if I was a ghost I would either stay absolutely silent if a ghost hunting team turned up, they fo ask dumb question and repeat them over and over again, or I would scare them silly by claiming to be a demon. I often think ghosts just like making fun of the investigators.

I never believe these ghost shows were real, but i have had a few experiences that i cant explain. The most prominent incident occured in a house i luved in during my teens. From the moment i set foot in that house, i felt what i could best describe was pure malice. If you could picture someone standing right in front of, behind or next to you and they're just glaring with pure hatred; thats a feeling i had often in that house. Something held me down, imitated my siblings, knocked things around, etc. One day, i was on my computer in the living room at around noon. Suddenly i hear the sliding glass door behind me slam, followed by footsteps of someone rushing at me (this was a single-story house). I looked around as it knocked papers off my desk and bolted past me, knocking aside the chair my cat was sleeping in. I finally saw what i remember to be a humanoid shadow figure that sprinted into the next room. My cat was completely freaked out. Her hair was standing up and she was looking directly at it as well. Its still the most profoundly strange and unexplainable thing I've ever seen in my life. There's more that happened in that house, and i wasnt the only one having these experiences.

For me I see them as entertainment and not to be taken seriously. I do believe in ghost and the paranormal, but like you said, it is a hard pill to swallow when the people that are being interviewed have a medical condition (possibly). But are being taken advantage of and encouraged by these people who only want views. As someone who is in the paranormal field (demonologist of 24 years) to be exact. I always take everything with a grain of salt. But typically, by the time people come to me, they have gone through the paranormal hunters, seen a doctor, gone to their church, etc. With no relief in sight. So, I tend to take their situation a little more seriously and try to help them as much as I can.

I grew up with ghosts and other spirits. Wherever we moved (and we moved a LOT), they'd follow. This was just part of our lives and you do get used to it. It becomes your "norm." And having been assaulted by something unseen over and over - not a lot scares me. Only really scary shit freaks me out and thankfully, I haven't had a whole lot of those experiences but have had a few that I never want to experience again. And having someone/thing punch me in the gut, knocking the wind out of me is not on the list of really scary shit. Just annoying. You actually get to a point where most stuff makes you mad, not afraid. Except for the really scary shit. That said - even though we had things follow us and mess with us everywhere we moved, I am all too aware - even with severe 'hauntings" or infestations, stuff doesn't happen every single day. Certainly not like the professed (and I hate this term), "ghost hunters" show.

I used to enjoy the ghost hunting in Gettysburg, but I visited the location of the old prison in Lancaster, PA on a whim with a friend and entered a used furniture store on the property and was physically attacked halfway through, they (there were at least two or more) were grabbing at my legs and trying to pull me through the floor. Had to yell for my friend to pull me out of there (I couldn't move, and he said my voice was changing, getting deeper) and on the porch, they were still on me, and we commanded them to stay in the building and not to follow and they didn't. Turns out, after doing my own investigation that the building sits on where 26 people were hanged, men and women. When folks were hanged you could pay a little extra to have them pull on the legs to speed up the death of the one being hanged. I think they are still there, paying for their penance even after their own deaths. Scared the hell out of me and I haven't ghost hunted since (though they still find me sometimes) and that was about 7 years ago.

About people experiencing things. As a sceptic myself, when people tell me their paranormal stories, no matter what I personally think, I feel grateful they felt safe enough to tell me such a story. I also fully believe they experienced what they said they experienced, even if I think it's most likely something natural or psychological rather than paranormal. However, I wouldn't tell them that, unless they ask for my honest opinion. They're probably already feeling a bit vulnerable telling something like that and me discrediting it without being asked about it feels shitty to me. Needless to say, I'd never ever make fun of them either. That would never solve anything. I want to believe in the paranormal, but I've never had a single odd experience (unless you count daily life with humans being confusing xD ). (Edit: Oh, I also didn't mean to imply you did any of this, I'm just stating what I'm doing/not doing. Just realised I might've come off as judgemental.)

The Kii meter these shows use, is a simple EMF meter, built VERY cheaply by Kii industries, and was notorious for giving sudden, unexplained readings, because it had zero screening or filtration, and was sensitive to a very wide range of frequencies, including radio. So if someone's phone pings a tower within 100 feet of the meter, you get an unexplained reading. When someone uses a walkie talkie, you get a reading. If there's lightning - even beyond audible range - you get a reading. If someone starts a car nearby...reading. It was worse than useless for its intended purpose. So when the company went down the shitter, it was bought by one of the ghost hunting TV shows, and they jacked up the price massively and started selling them on all the ghost hunting equipment sites. It's all a giant grift, like it always has been. Even in the 1800's, people were pulling the same crap, for the same reason.

Think about the costs involved from paying everyone from the top down for taking an entire Production to a location for a few days to film an episode. Walking away with absolutely Nothing to air on the program means no selling commercial time commercials beig the networks paychecks. If you go back to the late 90s early 00s when these kinds of shows were getting started an entire hour long episode might have an evp here a bump in the night there which passed for entertainment once the market started growing (more shows) the competition for viewers grew therefore the Need for exciting Evidence grew.

My parents live in an old house. When I lived there from the time they first moved in, there was a presence or a feeling of something there. Used to see dark objects in the corner of your eye, see shadow like figures move between rooms, shuffling on the tiled floor even the occasional sound of what sounded like a group of people talking inside when you were outside. That sometime happened if you were at one side of the house and on the other the conversation voices would be present. As soon as you'd investigate - it would stop. It was very odd. Activity has died down now but I would never live there again. It was just too unsettling for me. My parents also experienced and heard things. It wasn't just myself.

This comment makes me feel ok asking this question; I recently had two things happen to me. The first was I moved from the eastern U.S. to the southwest U.S. The second is that at 60ish years old I finally had to get glasses prescribed. So I'm in a place that's completely new to me and wearing glasses daily. I've noticed that I see 'movement' at either the very outer edge of my glasses, or just past the border of my glasses to the outside of my face. It doesn't happen often, and will occur in different lighting. It can be sunlight outside, or dark at night with me on my computer in an otherwise dark room. I cannot correlate the 'movement' to anything moving in the room, nor does it track to my head/eye movement. When I was a young man I served in the Navy, on aircraft. One of my duties was to watch for stuff outside the plane, and thus my eyes became adapted to discerning movement/contrast. Like seeing another airplane flying, or finding a smoke flare or liferaft or debris on the on water. I can't honestly figure if seeing this movement is just a condition of wearing glasses or if my vision has 'expanded'. My question is, do other people who wear glasses regularly have see these movements along the edge of their vision too, and if so is it scientifically explainable?

@@retirednavychief6983 I've been wearing glasses since 4th grade! It's not your eyes or glasses playing tricks on you! I can attest that all these occurrences happen when I have glasses on. My mother on the other hand does not need glasses for distance and sees these things also! I'm fairly confident that you are witnessing some apparition that is possibly passing through if its every so often and not concentrated to one location! Nothing to fear of! It could even be a past life of a family member dropping in to check up on you. You can talk to it as if its a person. The spirit world can hear you. But don't expect an audible response. Sometimes responses are in the form of knocks in the wall. If you feel uncomfortable, some cases saying the Lords Prayer out loud will command it to stop harassing you and if it's truly evil - saying "I love you" really gets rid of them!!

It's such a shame that Paranormal Shows feel the need to do this. Because it places the Paranormal world into disrepute. I genuinely HAVE HAD and continue to have Paranormal experiences. I never look for them, and a lot of the time I don't even know that the things I'm seeing aren't actually alive people (until they disappear without any way of 'disappearing') and it's only then that I think about it, and realise that maybe the clothes weren't right for this era etc. Sometimes I see things, sometimes I feel things, sometimes I hear things, and occasionally I get everything all at the same time ... I have had people say things like 'Oh you should join a Paranormal team.' But to this, I always say 'No' because for me, this 'gift' (if that's what you want to call it) isn't 'Turned On' all of the time. It never happens 'On Que' and sometimes I can go YEARS with nothing, and then I'll have a few months with lots of stuff happening, and then it could be years again, and often, when it does happen, it's usually when I'm really busy/distracted (like running around at work - in a building that I have seen and felt far too much NOT to believe is GENUINELY haunted) So busy that I don't realise what has just happened, until afterwards. But ... because of shows like the ones mentioned here, I also get a lot of back-lash, when I confide in people about what I've experienced, and often I get laughed at, or made fun of, or people say things like 'Oh crazy 'giggi' trying to get attention again (which is something that I'd NEVER want, as I'm very introverted, and never go 'Looking for attention.')

No. I hate Ryan fell on hard times. Seems he’s doing better now. I can’t watch GA. Zac gets on my nerves. I do believe in paranormal & the afterlife. I’ve had things happen that can’t be explained. I think that a majority of them are made up. I worked security/snow removal for a property management company. I had the night shift where I went to the different buildings and checked the windows and doors. I even had to walk through them twice a night to make sure kids didn't sneak in. Well, one of the locations was an old hospital that had 2 buildings connected by a hallway. One of the buildings was old and abandoned, but the other one was fully restored and converted into a retirement home. It was actually really nice and clean. Anyways, so every night I had to walk through the abandoned building to make sure no kids broke in or whatever. While it did look a bit creepy, never once have I heard anything weird or seen anything. The funny part is that every 4 months we would get some ghost hunting crew to come and investigate it. (we had 2 really big shows investigate it that I'm sure you have all seen). They would talk about people seeing crazying stuff or hearing wild noises... umm no. NO ONE other than me has been in that building for 5+ years. The last guy before me managed it for 15, so where are these stories coming from? They all just kept repeating the other stories that another group made up.

My childhood home was built in a secluded town near a creek and small cave. My sisters and I spent a large of time looking for arrowheads and faded doodles left from the natives in the cave (kids are dumb). A few times a year, we would notice bodies moving around the area between the cave opening and the creek. Only a couple times throughout the years did we hear the unmistakable sound of a child laughing. We avoided them, they avoided us. If a tv crew came out there, it would be unlikely that they would catch anything during a 4-6 hour film session.

My daughter and I have always enjoyed these shows and after watching TAPS, it encouraged us to set up our own paranormal investigation team. Some of the more famous buildings we wanted to investigate were very expensive, but we managed to do quite a few local pubs, houses and older buildings in our area for free. Any evidence that we caught was maticulously studied in great detail, because we tried to debunk anything , to promote our small team as being the real deal. Most things we could debunk, but there were quite a few incidents that we just could not explain, so put them down as being truly paranormal. These were shown on our facebook site, but even then, we said to the viewers that it was up to them whether to believe the evidence or not. We never tried to fool our viewers. We stopped ghost hunting when my daughter started a family, but I have seen stuff where I work since then. One incident was caught on CCTV by our night shift security guard who called us up to the office ,where all 8 of us saw it as he replayed it. So yes, no doubt many of these shows are hyped up for viewing figures, but my personal experiences have made me a believer.

What is sad is that there is so much REAL shit going on. Ive lived in at least 3 homes with a for real ghost in each. Guest saw a full bodied apparition in a house in Houston. My house in Austin had a nasty SOB who 'bothered' any women staying overnight. Two different mediums said he walked around with a wine glass in his hand and thought he was all that. I was at a table tipping in Austin. We bought the table that day at Walmart. I was in the first group of 4 at the table, and had to kick the chair from behind me as the table moved toward me. We were almost chasing that table around 2 rooms, and it was moving fast. About 30 people were in attendance, and anyone who wished could take a turn at the table. Also worked in an office in Austin where the ghost was really playful, and could imitate voices. Suddenly the Boss would call for me by name, but...oh, it wasn't him after all.

Oh, and why is it that ALL OF THESE SHOWS are still using 480p imaging? We all know they aren't, the HD cameras they use are in plain view. But everything post-production is so low-resolution that it removes most credibility. Is this a product of the process to get raw video through editing and onto a TV/computer screen, or(as I suspect) do teams need to reduce their resolution to myopic level for a reason? I gotta say it's awfully hard to see a wire when you're looking through 480p night vision. And FTR, I spent about $150 on a night-vision rifle scope in 2020 that allows me to see the individual toes on a coyote or the coat-variations in a deer at 100 to 125 yards. There's no way these shows don't have access to higher-resolution equipment. My belief is they don't want their audience to see them manipulating things.

As someone who has had several genuine paranormal experiences, I can confirm that a) not everything is paranormal & can be explained as part of the mundane world and b)REAL spirits are not our servants to appear on command and I even compare it to having a toddler who will sing or speak or dance for their mom in private but the second the mom tries to get the toddler to perform, the kid goes quiet or even runs away. Sadly, when paranormal activity is staged or exaggerated or there’s no scenes shown to determine if it’s legit or was there another explanation, it makes a joke out of any real things that might be happening.

Small mouths, but with teeth, and it never woke her up. I will say the previous homeowner's wife committed suicide but not on the property. I knew her son and he confirmed the story. Strange things continue to happen around my daughter her whole life, but she does her best to ignore it. Since she moved out of my house the strange things have stopped around here. The only ghost show I believe in is Dead Files. It's where a physical medium and a NYPD homicide detective go into a case together. The medium goes into the house to see the ghosts and describe what they look like, how they are affecting the family, and what they are doing. The detective is the one to talk to the affected family and to hear their stories, while being a skeptic, he's gently asking if they could've possibly jumped to conclusions to early. He also finds out the history of the land the house was built on and the past families that lived on it. Then him and the medium both come together at the end of the episode and they both meet and discuss what they've come up with during the duration of their studies. It's actually a pretty interesting show, I'd highly recommend it.
