Thanks! Sure, we can help. Here are some points/tips: 🥩My dogs eat both raw and cooked. In general, ground meat = cooked. Organ meats and eggs = raw (but you can cook if you'd like) 🥩I prepare food 1 - 2 times per week. 🥓Once weekly is easy... In this case, I use a crock pot, cook all the meat on sunday, then portion it out. Two day of food per bowl. I'd put monday - wed in the fridge, thursday - sunday in the freezer. Budget Stretching: 🥩Go to your grocery store or butcher. Ask them for the cuts no one wants. Since Juno is allergic to beef, go with pork. Every area has their own prices, so: 🥓Seek out the cuts no one wants. For example, many years ago I discovered pork 'shoulder roasts.' Because they have a large fat pad, and a bone, they were super cheap. Well, dogs need the fat, and you can use the bone for broth later. 🥩Organ meats are almost always cheaper than muscle meat. Organ meat is great for your pups, so pile on the liver, etc. 🥩Go with ground meats (almost always cheaper) 🥓Shop around. The price difference between supermarkets and grocery stores and butcher shops can be eye-opening 🥚Egg are game changers. Each medium egg = 50g of food. Meat getting expensive? You an cut out 100g a day by giving two eggs. While prices vary, usually, even the best eggs, from free-range chickens, cost between 20 and 30-cents each. 🥦Find the cheapest vegetables in your area. Frozen is totally fine. Avoid canned because of the sodium. Use the scraps for your bone broth. Use the bones from meat, or ask your butcher/grocer for bones. They'll almost always give the for free, or for almost nothing. ****Broth is an ESSENTIAL part of the plan, and you can make it for almost nothing**** 🥚🥩🥓🥦🥚🥩🥓🥦 So, juno is about 40kg. Whiskey is 10kg. This equates to 6.3kilos of food per week, or 12-ish pounds. Sounds like a lot, right? Now, let's say you give each dog 2 eggs per day. Now you're at 10lbs. Juno should get around 100g of vegetables, and Whiskey about 50g per day. That knocks off almost another whole LB. We're around 9 now. 🥩I'm assuming you're in the USA since you used pounds, and online I'm finding that liver is between $2 - 3/lb. I'd bet you can find it cheaper at a butcher shop. Ground pork, at 'sam's club' is coming in at $2.80/lb Let's say you go 50/50 on organ and muscle meat, that's about $55 for the week, plus the eggs and vegetables, so you're looking at $65 per week for two dogs eating real food. 🥦Roughly 260 per month. Now, lower that cost by giving more eggs. (1 med egg = 50g food, with perfect protein and fat) 🐟Tuna, at places like walmart, is typically pretty cheap. I believe one can = 50g food. Juno will likely need less food as you go, since she will lose weight. Lower it further by either buying in bulk from a Sams club or costco type place. If you have a Lidl, try there. The meat is super cheap. 🥥Olive or coconut oil can boost calories and scale back a bit more on meat, too. Lower it further by opting out of ground pork, and instead finding some of the less-desired cuts of pork. You can likely get them under $2/lb. 🥩When you cook meat in a crock pot or on the stove, especially ground, put it in the fridge after cooking, over night. This will help re-absorb the fat and moisture lost. This alone will make sure you're getting maximum value and max weight🥩 🥦With practice, you can get it under 200$ per month, even as low as 150🥦 Currently, for 7-dogs, we come in at around $450 for the month. But, this took practice! **Keep in mind that a mid-range "higher-end" dog food like acana costs between $80 and 100$ a bag. And, over 35% of that bag is useless fillers like lentils and peas (which your dog is allergic too anyway) So, if you shell out a hundred bucks, 35 are buying peas and lentils and fillers. The 100$ of real food buy 100$ of real food.
