NEED to get this completed so it can settle over the year to build our future greenhouse. Turned out better than we hoped.

mark, you might want to look at digging further into the hillside so you can dig the greenhouse into the hillside to take advantage of the earth temp. In my greenhouse I dug in enough to get a 8 foot ceiling and then put in 27 55gal drums painted black filled with water to gather heat during the day and then allowing it disipate during the night. I live in western North Carolina and for the last three years it has stayed around 55 degrees in the middle of winter

That is an awesome idea. Snow on the up hill side might crush it in, and banked against the earth, it would not.
@williambates6811Ай бұрын
Just think how much bigger the greenhouse could be if set into the bank. The thermal mass of the bank would extend the growing season for the greenhouse.

Great job Guys. Hey Mark what about an earth sheltered greenhouse? 3 sides buried south side open. Extend your growing season with no extra heating cost. Enjoy Guys. Looks awesome.

We are looking into a full-drying flower/herb room along with a full-built greenhouse year-round. The earth there is a bit sandy and I am not sure I can make it happen and will probably need to resort to a standard timber frame style of the greenhouse with some off-grid features for heating and cooling (still researching what I want to do with it) There is an area of the property where I did think of doing something like that and doing geothermal, but then it was going to cut into our main road and main water line is. We are still in the planning phase for sure.

The Bulldozer would be great for this project. The larger the greenhouse the better. Are you planning on having permanent raised beds in the greenhouse. I highly suggest deciding on what the main purpose of the greenhouse will be and design accordingly.

It’s beautiful Mark, that mountain and you are one, it works with you to accomplish your goals, congratulations family, you’re on your way to a year around harvest of produce and covered area for storage as well, a 60’ long x 30’ wide would offer yall a lot of covering for all sorts of farming needs, especially in the winter months! Think bigger than what you need, the wind can wreak havoc on a cheap greenhouse and you’ve got hard winds at times! I’m so excited for yall ❤. Great job Mark!

Are y'all building the greenhouse into the hillside to utilize ground temps? Possibly build a cellar room at the back of the greenhouse buried? Not to mention it would help stabilize the hill as well

The terraces just keep getting better. The drone shot was great. I knew Olga would love it. I was in awe at how much flat land you gained. Will you seed the sides to control erosion? You can always start small and add on as ones budget allows. It will give you a feel for the area and how much you actually need.

Nice dirt work...just because you have the footprint I 'd still be cautious about going big on the size of the greenhouse...law of diminishing returns...unless you plan on heating it and have access in the snow months.

It was a hard decision. We also travel a bit (like away 1-2 days) and some of it is our fault and lack of training, despite her being a great dog, she would get the animals at night when she was supposed to stand guard. We won't be ready for a dog anytime soon and the commitment a dog deserves, and she deserves better.

Hope you ground the heck out of that greenhouse, because a metal structure on that hillside.... oof... also, what are you going to do for sliding winter snow on the hill pushing against the greenhouse and water runoff in spring?
@MountainMapleRanchАй бұрын
So the greenhouse will be build next year hopefully $$. That area gets very little snow because it’s in the sun pretty much all the time. But the design will be to accommodate any wild winters that we could potentially have like we did 2 years ago.
@toddincaboАй бұрын
👍 Had trouble understanding you in the cab, did you explain how that dirt you're throwing over the side is not going to slide downhill one overly wet winter like that highway in Wyoming just did? Doesn't it need to be stepped with compaction at least, from bottom up?
@MountainMapleRanchАй бұрын
We should not have a problem. We have created many flat grounds on our property with the same downhills and have not had any issues. The hill lower than the shop where the solar panels are is double the steepness and has no issues and we snowblow that way too.
@shadegarden7375Ай бұрын
Will a greenhouse get blown away easily?

The greenhouse will not be made out of plastic, it will be an all-year-round kind of greenhouse. We hope to build it next year.

If you're watching construction, do you watch the driver or what the driver is doing? I think this looking at the driver's face while he works the dirt is kinda not worth it. He can talk to me all he wants but what I want is to see what he's doing.
