Exactly. Kalugin is a bitter mediocre KGB agent with inferiority complex and envy. Jealous of the fact that Putin became someone while he, Kalugin, inflated by his own ego, is upset that he never amounted to anything other than a former KGB agent- and clearly a mediocre one at that. The fact that Putin convinced Kalugin at the time that he was a non-descript nobody proves that Putin was a superior KGB agent to Kalugin. The fact that Kalugin still doesn't understand that he was duped by Putin to this day, demonstrates that he was and is an inferior KGB agent. Frankly, Kalugin looks absolutely foolish to use his brief, on the job encounter with Putin to make any kind of character assessment. I can tell you right now that I worked with various people, and even those who knew me well at work, don't have a clue about my actual life and capabilities, and most likely, I don't have a clue about their lives either. Kalugin didn't take notice then, and he's using it now as chips for attention. As a KGB agent, it is literally your job to not be noticed by others, and it sounds like Putin was a natural at convincing others, including his own boss, that he wasn't a threat or someone worth noticing.
