This video is all about advice for first time leaders. Taking on the role as a first time leader can be daunting. Overnight, you've been assigned a lot of additional responsibility. Your boss will be monitoring what you do to see if you're succeeding as a first time leader. Your peers might change because instead of being equal to them, you're now in a superior position. Because of all these dynamics, it can be difficult to succeed as a first time leader.
But it doesn't always have to be that way. Luckily, there are videos on KZfaq that will give you advice about being a first time leader that can help you out. And in this video, I share with you three insights into how to succeed in leadership as a first time leader (or manager). If you put into action these new leader tips, you will definitely set yourself up for success as a first time leader.

Vry well explained the topic ma'am bt. in my opinion as a professional seniors should spend adequate time guiding nd developing their juniors, Mistakes r looked upon as learning experience, self learning should be encouraged to make them confident to face any situation,Task forces nd small gps.r used to develop employees, understanding nd competencies by Managers, Appraisals r used by reviewing officers to reduce or eliminate biases in their jrs., senior's should take interest in induction programme nd line managers should provide the rt.climate to implement new ideas nd methods.Quality of in house programs nd Training Methodologies will b excellent.External training program should be chosen carefully.Serious performance review discussions take place nd manager spend time on performance guidance nd Development etc.in brief in my views for effective goals.Vry true reg.leadership style .The concepts should be clear cut nd well understood before implemention in my opinion to get productive out put of OD nd OB.Vry.inspiring lecture.

Excellent advice, Kara. I especially like your point about getting to know each team member/direct report. When my supervisors have taken the time to get to know me, it's made all of the difference in the development of a positive relationship.

Leading is but one aspect of managing people. And as Mintzberg points out, the critical element of management is managing communication flows within the unit, between the unit and its customers and suppliers, and for the manager between him or her and supervisors and the supervised.

Great question! There are so many out there depending on what specific area you'd like to learn about. In another KZfaq video, I recommend three books for charisma, influence and mindset kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a92Egr1ircy6h3U.html. These are good starting points to improve yourself for leadership. On top of those, "Leaders Eat Last" by Simon Sinek or "Primal Leadership" by Daniel Goleman are good ones too.

Management by Henry Mintzberg. The only book you need to read. Also perhaps Martin and Rumelt, both on Strategy. Mintzberg has some good thoughts on strategy as well.
