Everyone always emphasizes Freddie Mercury's vocal prowess and his stage presence but forget that he was a unique song writer and music composer as well.

He did a cover of Great Pretender Mike Moran said he forgot he needed a B side! So he thought it would be funny to pretend to be a soprano! And just improved this His voice is beautiful only Freddie can touch your soul with a song with no words! But it still feels emotional as if he is telling a story!

Written by Freddie & Mike Moran as his impersonation of Montserrat's vocal style. She was so enamored with the song that she insisted on recording her own version. The melody was later reused for Ensueño, with a set of lyrics written by Montserrat. Montserrat's vocal version was not, for some reason, issued on The Solo Collection; it only remains available on both 1988 and 1992 single releases of Barcelona.

Thanks, Rad - this was what he wrote to "impress" Montserrat Caballe to work with him.. he told her "this would be your vocal part" -- and actually, when he wrote the album they did together, this tune became "Ensueno" (dream) - and she DID sing the high part.. his was lower.. hope you hear it!

Thanks for your reaction! Transfixed is certainly the right word. He also wrote the music to this. He could have definitely been a classical composer and vocalist if that was what he had chosen. It seemed towards the end of his solo career he was heading that way, even talking about recording another project with Monserrat Caballe(opera singer) and writing a stage musical with Tim Rice( Phantom of the Opera composer). Unfortunately it was not to be. I think the phrase you were looking for was jack of all trades, master of none. But you'reright in Fredddie's case he mastered everything he put his mind to. What I like about this is the emotion in these vocals and on syllables alone, no words. And of course his vocal range is unbelievable.

This song became the B side of The Great Pretender. Freddie asked Montserrat to write lyrics to the music and that is their later duet Ensueno. Pls, check out another demo of Freddie called Rachmaninov's Revange, that became later the Fallen Priest.

A lot of people think this It was B side of his cover Great Pretender He then started his solo album and Montsarat wanted to meet him . He agreed but had no thoughts of working with her at that time because he was doing his album He decided to perform this for her as an ice braker She miss understood and thought it was a gift, she put lyrics to it as a surprise and performed it at Covent Garden ...they ended up doing an album

I think he's just improvising. The first time I heard it, I thought someone was joking that it was Freddie, and after a while, I finally heard his sound. He's so amazing, I'm not sure there was anything he couldn't do. I think the phrase you're looking for is Jack of All Trades, Master of None. I'm not sure I would call him a "master" of any one genre, as he dabbled in all of them, but he was certainly a master of music and performance. (BTW, this is a classical style, not really opera.) 🙂

he‘s supposed to be one of the best rock singers of all time, if not the best. and the bigger part of queen‘s songs are in the rock genre with all it‘s derivatives so no, i don‘t think one could possibly say he dabbled in all genres. there he‘s the real master, i guess. even ronnie dio looked up to him on the howard stern show once. by the way, „ensueño“ is another song in „classical opera style“. he for sure dabbled in opera style although he’s done great as montserrat caballé herself put it, but i can‘t think of any other genre queen crossed where fred wasn‘t at least as virtuosic like singers who sang the respective style anyways. not to mention in comparison to today‘s pop singers. also mrs. caballé wanted to do some famous opera piece with freddie in a theatre but he refused by saying his fans wouldn‘t like to hear him always singing that way.

THANK YOU, SO MUCH FOR THIS ONE, HONEY..... I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR IT! SUGGESTION: FREDDIE'S TWO "IMPROMPTU" PERFORMANCES AT THE 1986 WEMBLEY CONCERTS (This is not the "call-and-repeat" type thing that he always did with the audience, this is.... DIFFERENT.) The two pieces are short, so it w/b easy to play them back-to-back... or, if you only wanted to play one, the second performance from SATURDAY, JULY 12 is the better one. (Both of them are in this link, tho) kzfaq.info/sun/PLxBEOUlM82MQnCPsSyp3-cJb1eu0S09xy
