@Mr Clean You and seemingly everyone else born around the turn of the century. Personally, I don't get it; but maybe that's because I was born at the tail-end of Generation X, as this whole existential crisis thing seems to be a psychological problem unique to Millennials.

When I’m honest with myself; I tend to look at my hands and wonder why I have these hands. I tend to look in the mirror and wonder why I’m in this body. Existence terrifys me.

desert eagle I wouldn't say depersonalization. I think these thoughts often as well. When I was younger and coming home from school I would think who is this person and why am I stuck in this room with all these people. It was such a weird feeling. As an "adult" I haven't experienced it as much. For a person who might be a heavy thinker id say it's normal to have existential irritations from time to time
@danielvarela7986
@danielvarela7986 6 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the suggestion and it may hold some weight, but depersonalization seems like a more extreme format then what I deal with on a daily basis. I personally feel like the world around me is a mystery and the fact that i exist in a body weirdos me the heck out. The fact that I have thoughts and emotions that dictate the functionality of my body leave me distraught. Existence is a mystery and grounds me to “reality”.

Well, we came out of a Star... out of a planet... out of an organism... out of an intelligent being. And this complex thing is called a Human. It has the capacity to illude itself into multiple directions. That is merely the intelligence of the being, imagining. Imagining what beauty could happen. What love could evolve or what storm of mental chaos will form. It's all a blurb in one's mind. A stream of thoughts of this intelligent being... it can think about anything. Any capacity. Perhaps that's what the Universe was always meant to do... create its own architects. Architects to feel itself and have such a capacity to witness things that would turn the cogs of the intelligent and complex mind to come up with ideas. Perhaps one day, we are meant to reach a technological point to modify Stars. At some point, maybe the Universe will not be able to sustain its own expansion and will require its own conscious creations to do that for it. So this beautiful Human creation experiences its own Wars still... perhaps that's what we are meant to do. Kill each other so that we can discover some degree of definition within Chaos and find something more. We were created by something we don't know of - perhaps it was merely by chance. But still, we are here - now. This very moment. So play your every part toward this beautiful song and story of this big and bright Universe. Be a Will - one that can modify History and allow others to continue the rhythm of survival and technology. Be beautiful - be Human.

Jay Hill I try to keep it simple. Do the things that bring me joy, not bother people nor be bothered with other peoples agendas or materialism. I do 3 things i love the most and focus on that. I am glad to do the things i love and glad i am still here to do it. As long as I don't harm others and help those I can I do not give a shit about the problems of the world. Even if it ends i accept it due to our lack of sympathy for others and to stupid to do anything about the things we know we should be doing.

We are everyone and no one at the same time. If we had been born to someone else, somewhere else, sometime else, we’d be just like them. Our lives are our environment. If you had been born in my body, my conditions, my family, you’d turn out just like how I am now. There is nothing else but our individual individuality in this world. We live in a world of contradictions, a world of unpredictable predictability.

I remember when I was in Preschool I would do this thing where I’d stare off in space for a certain length of time and wonder about my existence as a human being. I’d sort of step back from the common knowledge of human existence and think how weird it was that I was able to think these kinds of thoughts. I was four/five years old thinking to myself about how somewhat cool human existence was. And here I am at nineteen years old thinking of this memory and how it shows the early signs of my deep and mature emotional core, which has made me the person I am today and hopefully the kind of philosopher I hope to be someday all because I started listening to Alan Watts’s lectures almost two years ago.

They Call Me Dan when I was younger, and still do now, I would wonder: do they realize how much of their life is spent just being a robot? do they realize how mundane life is? and so I embarked on a journey. a real journey. I met Jesus, I met Muhammed, I met Science, I met people, I met Buddha, I met Lao Tsu, and at the end of it all, I realized that they all talk about similar things. not the same thing, but there are patterns across them all. I found out Jesus is who they're all talking about, and that yet, Jesus is not the fullness of whom He claimed to be. Inklings, as CS Lewis put it, are all that we can know about the Great Spirit, the Great Mind, the Universe, whatever you wanna call it.

As the years , decades and centuries go by however, one by one discoveries are being made that were unimaginable before. Some secrets of the universe will remain hidden for millenia if not forever, yet it is extremly exiting to me that in this age of wonder and scientific research the door to the vast entity of attainable knowledge stands agar!

There is but the paradox is that there's an universe in just a speck and nothing in an entire galaxy. Within the confines of your mind lies all creation, all joys and sorrows, all wonders and horrors. There is no greater voyage than that of your own mind. Many scholars, teachers, prophets, messiahs and philosophers hint at this absolute truth: ying and yang, oneness, infinity and the awakening of the soul. Like Alan Watts claimed: we are not just part of the big-bang, we continue to evolve from the big-bang.

In my own experience, when we try to find the answers to our questions, answers that we can not comprehend, or answers that we are not ready for, we often find the wrong answer. Which leads us to discover this abomination of the mind. A lie, a terror, something horrible. We must simply wait for the time when we are ready to comprehend such answers. Knowledge can never be rushed for if it is important details will be overlooked and the experiment fails or something terrible happens. Just stick with what you know, and don’t think about the questions. Just be here in this moment.

I agree... Since I was a child I have always thought that existance (&) reality is weird.... I remember I would sit and ponder over (&) have all kinds of thoughts (&) questions about the existance God... What Reality really is... The cosmos etc.(&) everything else you could imagine.... Things I could never really explain with words or put into a question in a way that people would understand what I was talking about.... That's why I love these videos.... I get so excited with the teachings (&) videos of Alan Watts (&) those like him.... Thank You so much 😊❗

TJOP, you are doing great service to humanity through these clips - beautifully done, great quality, imagery and all to boot!. I love Alan Watts. I dare say that Alan Watts is a great ancient sage who came back to continue his work of awakening those of us who want to listen, those of us who can pause to think, those of us who pause and ask "Who am I?" Keep up the great work!

as long as the world is the way it is , we will always be these people that we have been during all these years and only when every single one of us living each of us at our time and those yet to come realizes what he is talking on this speech as most of you guys who already do , only then we will realize and start to make real sense of our reality life and pretty much everything else.. lm 21 years old and for the past 3 years lve been listening to this speech almost everyday a few times , and each time it keep making me more aware of existence and only when you get the exact point of his words only then you really understand that yes existence is weird!

everyone commenting about the existential crisis feelings this brings, and i feel them, but am i the only one INTENSELY comforted by this feeling? it just makes me happy. i feel very comforted by the fact that were all here now and one day we wont be and itll be a new cycle of humans and so on. makes you worry about things less in my opinion

Beautiful❤️ My Guru Mooji talks about “nothingness” or “emptiness”, and what I find the most beautiful is that the same Truth is being expressed by consciousness through the form ‘Alan Watts, and the form ‘Mooji’ It’s the One differentiating itself in many forms. It’s all saying the same thing. I love it.❤❤❤

being is quite remarkable isnt it. anyone with common sense would agree that existence would make more sense if nothing existed at all. absolute nothingness. then again, if everything were nothingness, then nothingness would be everything, right? strange paradox

Nothingness can never truly exist even once the universe is "dead" many years from now. At the quantum level "something" is always happening. Particles churning in and out of existence. From where and to where? Who knows. A random fluctuation there, and its possible another universe will be born. We find ourselves in a strange place, huh?
@jsaari8443
@jsaari8443 6 жыл бұрын
But, in that strange sense if everything is nothing, and we are the universe itself.Does that mean we are nothing too? I mean yes we are still the universe,but we are a universe that is filled with nothing.
