I have to say this and I really hope you see this, Joerg. But, for some reason, seeing you with another crazy slingshot in your hands today brought back so many nostalgic feelings of the "good old days" of KZfaq. KZfaq felt like the Wild Wild West when I found you about 15 years ago, and you truly were the wildest guy of the bunch. The tight t-shirts, big muscle, cool sunglasses, awesome video intro - I still remember the music - and badass slingshots were so much fun. I was about 14 or 15 years old when I found a video of you destroying a motorbike helmet in your old back garden with a little handheld slingshot and I've been a fan ever since. My friends in school and I used to watch the video where the steel ball bounced back and smashed the glass in your back window and the one where you set off fireworks for New Year and they misfired and exploded onto the roof of your house and laugh our asses off over the craziness haha. That, and we would always say your catch phrases along with you. "12 millimeter steel balls" and "LET ME SHOW YOU IT'S FEATURES. HAHAHA." were our favourites. You reminded us of a real life version of "The Heavy" from Team Fortress 2, which was huge at the time. Your arc of making different types of machines for destroying zombies was one of our absolute favourites. All of this to say, thank you so much for the amazing memories and for still working hard on creating content to this day. I'm looking forward to seeing whatever crazy invention you cook up next. It would be great to see you bring out the old intro AND a bunch of the old slingshots for once last round. That's it for my comment today. Thanks and bye bye 👍

Well Jorge, you now have me thinking about a shoulder mount bazooka type set up with automatic ball feed. Run all the pre tensioner pulleys inside a PVC tube with a landing over the top for the sling shot. A shoulder mount underneath that fits snug front and back of the body with a pistol grip up front of the tube that also serves as a ratchet for the mechanism. Make it into a ballzooka.

I see what you're saying, Jorge. The draw-assisting band helps in pulling back the 4 strong propelling bands. Great. But the farther you pull back on the propelling bands, the less assist is provided by the draw-assist band because it's going back to not stretched. So the length of your frame and the two draw lengths have to be a balance, some compromise in one aspect for one gain in another aspect. So your slingshot skeleton and bands strengths and draws are all set at a balance. It's another proof that you're a genius at these weapons designing! Thanks much for showing it. Oh, made a good atlatl. And discovered an atlatl is the most un-accurate weapon in existence. About 20% spear travel distance was gained, and about 25% accuracy was lost. Unless a person wants to spend 30% of their awake hours practicing. 👍😁👍
@SteveEhАй бұрын
With another pulley at the front, you could add even more length to the rubber assist. This would further counter the effect of the rubber loosing its stretch.

I feel like a rack and pinion is perfect here. Put a loop on the back of the cup. Attach this to a post at the end of the rack. Mount a guide rail for the rack, then interface a gear with the rack, and a lever with a ratchet to the gear. Now you can crank the rack and the pouch back one crank of the lever at a time. Use a trigger pull to lift the loop off the post, and it fires. Then lift the ratchet to slide the rack forward, re-set that loop on the post, and repeat.

Some time in the late 2010s, Mattel filed a patent for a Boomco blaster that used this principle with springs, to help prime a pump action or bolt action rifle. Sadly, the brand folded before it went into production, but this is a very neat spiritual successor to the idea.

The mechanism is essentially allowing you to draw twice and store the energy of both draws into the system; or divide the energy required to draw the main rubber viewed another way. In theory you could use multiple parallel counter bands and pulleys with a locking clip to store even more draws of energy and get ridiculous velocities, but then the whole thing gets heavier, the length constraint could maybe be eased using a clever compound pulley arrangement. Maybe a mounted turret lol?

Dear Jörg, thank you very much for your laughing and also for your intense and inspired work. Especially in the last few years it was you that kept me holding on. And i've got the feeling , that i'm not the only one. I worked for over 40 years as a professional musician and was doing quite well with it. But this Corona stuff threw me off the rails and i'm trying very hard to get back where i belong. But as many other artists too, i first had to sell all of my eqipement, before getting help. And in 2 months i ll get kicked out of my appartement and will be homeless. But that's not what i wanted to write in first place - on the other hand, sometimes wired random stuff happens...but only if you let other peiple know about. Okay, concerning your cool idea: to me there is one problem left . The limiting factor is now the strength of your fingers. Because they are the connection now. Yes, you can stretch now 4 mercyless rubberbands much wider due to the support of the add on. But then xou still have to hold ( or rather fix) the puchet ( sorry, i can t remember all these terms), .but i hope u see what i mean. I'm doing freeclimbing and hard bouldering for about 30 years now and have built up some helpfull power in my handmuscles ( yes i know, the fingers are only the servants... the muscles for them are placed mainly at the underarms...) and solid bones, tendons, joint capsulas. So probably my fingers are as strong as yours, concerning gripping power - but in all other aspects i am lightyears away from your power. I guess i couldn't even use a slingshot with only 2 yellow bands. It could end like " Bizarre: Ex musician found dead with a slingshot stuck in his head. Was it suicide ? Our expert from our sports ressorts told us, that usually the slingshot itself isn't shot - therefore steelballs are used. The slingshot itself usually isn't shot anywhere.....stay tuned..." Have i missed something ? If not, then we need a tool, that allows to connect the slingshot pouch with the end of the helping rubber line - and THAT IS THE CRUX - which can be "released" = disconnected, right at the moment of shooting. It must be save and relieable and work in milliseconds, so it doesn't hinder the 4 yellow wild horses on their WARP2 race forward. I guess, this tool already exists. As so often. But is serving for some complete different task. Until now. And my thoughts wander to the old trigger mechanisms for crossbows...and...hum... then we could end up with a. ... crossbow 😂 Some sort of Schrödingers thing. It oszillates between a slingshot and a crossbow. Strange.... And of course it may not collide with any weapon laws. If this might be the case or could destroy some slingshot powerjunkies' life, physicly or in terms of justic, please delete this comment. Those are only some thoughts of mine. In case they are helpful or interesting i'm glad. But if they can do bad things , please kick them. All best wishes, that also goes to this huge community Wolfgang
@EpIcHoBoGuYАй бұрын
Joerg the secondary band being less useful the more you draw back your main bands actually gives me and idea, where the main body of the sling shot could be made from a pipe with a piston inside, which would allow for the body to become a linear force spring using atmospheric pressure, you could very easily have a 20kg/45lbs spring that is just as effective, at the start of the draw as it is at the end of the draw, and all without increasing the size of this setup in anyway.

Instead of that fiddly pin+loop catch that you show at 2:59 to 3:22, I would just have affixed the hand loop to the grip end of the beam with a meter or so of normal rope. (When you pull the hand loop forwards, the rope just goes slack. When you want to take your hand out of the loop, the rope holds it from going back too far automatically. And when you release the pouch with a lot of force in your arm, it would also keep your hand from snapping back violently; which could and give the long rubber band the 5mm or so of slack that it needs to jump off the roller, or even just smack your hand into the roller.)
@djewynne963818 күн бұрын
You could have an archer's glove that the assisting band is attached to, and a tension cinch on the release. Cool design!!! Subscribed and liked.
@william_hartmanАй бұрын
Interesting idea. The only issue is that you get the most tension with the assistance band while the shooting bands are at least tension, and the least tension while the shooting bands are at full draw/tension. But I can't think of a way around that.

@fooltheroyal8691Ай бұрын
Maybe add a leather wrap around the string you loop your hand through, to reduce the strain of it digging into the skin, as well as adding greater surface area for increased grip.
@RoyLyonsАй бұрын
You gave me a thought then you talked about the pulley system. You probably already thought of this, but just in case you hadn't I'll mention it. What if you set up a set of pulleys similar to that of a compound bow? Yes, the question then is "why not just us a bow instead of a slingshot?". But that's not your purpose here. It's a demonstration of the physics of it - and a great one at that. I just wonder if the same effect might be obtained with a shorter exoskeleton bar in this way, making it more compact? On the other hand, the compound bow design is made to make the draw easier, so perhaps my thought is just plain silly since the tension wouldn't be as strong. I leave it to you to think about though as a fun thought experiment

The handle portion could run the entire length and the latch portion only the back half. The final draw could 2:1 of (nearly) your entire wingspan to pull the carriage back an extra couple feet. Bonus of being incredibly accurate.
