I hate people complaining about United not developing a style and then tear down Ten Hag when he doesn't want to compromise on a style he wants to play. To judge Ten Hag on "the play to players' strength" is an invalid argument when said players didn't turn up. The problem with United is that we see where we need reinforcements to improve the squad but our owners will always ignore the issues and then there will be no contingencies when shit hits the fan. I mean we had to play an out of form Casemiro in CB because we didn't address the CB problem but signed Jonny Evans on a free. We need a defensive midfielder next season and i'm pretty sure we'll get a CB this season and something random like a LW or an attacking midfielder. The whole medical department needs to be repalced as well.

It's not just not having Licha, it's no Shaw too, or no fucking LB at all. And Varane's numerous injuries. Having those three fit enables us to play higher up the pitch which shrinks those gaps.

Luke Shaw has proved he will never be fit. 8 years and constant injuries. Even someone half his ability but consistent would be better. He needs to go, should have been offloaded earlier. Great on his day but unfortunately it's just not consistent

@@markf4258 2020/21 Shaw played 47 games 2021/22 Shaw played 30 games 2022/23 Shaw played 47 games. I don't get where this Luke Shaw is always injured comes from. Go and look at the stats. Shaw would have been fit months ago but was rushed back the same as Martinez was. You haven't got a clue have you?

Club bears a lot of guilt for not reaching top 4, they knew we weren't scoring goals, and no LB coverage, Jan transfer window - zero. No activity, no help, no wonder we continued to struggle.

But no one came in , not even a loan signing a new face to help the manager out , its not if we couldn't afford one , Reguilon was sent back so his wages were saved . Just didnt help the man for the second half of the season .

@@limericklad2000 I'm on about any other position , no signings at all came through the door in January , letting Reguilion go back at Christmas freed up wages for another player to come in a striker would have helped as Hojlund got injured again in the latter stages of the campaign and Rashford decided he didnt care about the shirt and Martial didnt or couldnt get fit enough to play, Somebody to come on as a substitute and put in a shift , that maybe could have helped the team .

We didn't get decently far in the Carabao Cup... we beat an understrength Palace side who beat us in the league at OT on the Saturday after that midweek tie, and then we were humiliated by the Geordies at home in the following round, 3-0, and 2 down by half time - an embarrassing defence.

So in Ten Hag's interview towards the end of the season, he spoke about one of the principles of play that he was hired for was that United (i.e. Glazers, Arnold, Murtaugh) wanted the team to be more pro-active off the ball (i.e. pressing, rather than low blocking teams like Ole and Jose had done). And pressing is fine when you've got the players to do it, and for the most part United do, but scratch the surface and what's underneath isn't capable. Evans and Maguire can't do it, Varane is okay but not the quickest, and so he's got a defence that can't press but he's been told part of why he's got the job is to press. So he is either stubborn, or concerned for his job, telling the players to press but also the defence to do what they have to. I wonder if part of Wilcox coming in, and what we saw in the last 5 games, was ETH getting reassured that the team doesn't have to press, that the club (i.e. new Ineos ownership) would rather he coach the team so they conceded less shots, are more stable, are harder to beat, rather than this idea that we have to press. It was something that he spoke about with some detail. He was told that the club wanted pro-active defending because if you're not doing well and you're passive, or you're losing, it's then hard to get back into the game, hard to get motivated, morale drops etc.

Telles, VdB, and Cavani was Covid when no fucker was spending money. We've had far more big spending summers than not, which is why we are now apparently struggling with FFP. When you spend the money poorly, and then need to throw good money after bad, then you're going to have a problem eventually.

Instead of competing with other teams let's first compete with ourselves. Let's get 2 or 3 players in every position who will push each other for that starting spot. It's a long process but you need to start somewhere. I don't see the likes of our fullbacks pushing each other, wingers pushing each other, striker pushing himself lol ....

Agreed. The depth just isn't there, but building genuine depth takes smart recruitment, time, and money. Which we apparently don't have a lot of. Which means it's probably going to take even longer.

It just wont be as bad as last season in the prem , injuries surly won't be as bad , and the home form , hell that has to be back to the first seasons numbers , I want a solid season in the league and that Europa league is there for the taking united have to go deep in Europe and that means winning it . He's got a free pass because of the injuries (arguable if they were the main cause). But the club have to finish in the top 4 next season, you can't afford to miss out on Cl football 2 years in a row and expect to build a CL quality squad.

Of course martinez couldn’t stop 15+ shots on goal by himself, but the trend in this squad post Fergie is that when you lose a few pivotal players in the starting 11, the belief within the group fades away. Having martinez back there doesn’t just improve the quality of that single position, it improves the structure in the defence and the confidence in the team. When you work in a team environment, having strong characters is imperative, and Bruno cannot instil confidence into a defence from where he plays on the pitch.

Utd as a 1st choice 11 are maybe 2 signings away from being able to challenge. But that massively hinges on them all staying fit over the season which is highly unlikely. As a squad, we are at best top 4 capable. Success would be top 4 and deep runs in the cups (possibly a win). Acceptable would be 6th-4th.

Success is we're in the top 3, genuinely being spoken of as challenging for the number 2 spot. Win Europa League. Acceptable; top 4 and strong performance in Europa; at least semi finals with some good results against legit teams

The change in the last 3 games was that Ten Hag realized he needed to get Bruno away from the #10 position. Bruno as 10 doesn't feed the striker at all, which normally is a 10's main job. So Ten Hag removed Hojlund and put an extra midfielder in there, used Bruno as false 9. Solved a lot of problems.

The budget thing is obviously just smoke and mirrors from United. From what people have found when they've run the numbers, the club is stuck before July 1st because of PSR, but after that will have a lot more room because the 3 year period will change. Plus a lot of it is a cash thing, so we need Ratcliffe to support in that way.

Ten Haag does play that open style, with Ajax he got away with it having the best players in the league, and while it worked in one off champions league games it is the reason they lost to spurs, if he played a plan b they would have shut that game off... i like Ten Haag and the discipline he is trying to instill, i think it's important to show the players they are not more than the manager, but he will always have that tactical flaw that leaves us open to conceeding alot of shots

I had a similar issue with my knee. what has worked for me - look at the elliptical and work up to the highest level for an hour for at least 6 months 5 x per week. also, measure the length of your legs as one may be longer than the other and can cause injury. need to focus on glutes (if they are weak) as well as hips/lower back exercises. I'm in my fifth week and have massive improvement.

success is a team that looks coached , organised , cooperating . team more then sum of its parts ie playing above individual capabilities . and then progress . like creating chances but not finishing and then progressing to finishing them like chelsea last season . top 4 minimum . tats what makes last season a horror show it was a massive step back u didnt even build towards anything for next season

Creating and sustaining a style of play, including the rotation of players - acceptable. Top 4 - Ten Hag should be owed a big bonus. Of course, we can’t really have any realistic expectations until the end of the transfer window.

After the season we had top 4, a good cup run, and significant progress in our style of play would be success. Acceptable would be champions league football. Either through top 4 or winning Europa. What I want from Ineos this summer is to not allow there to be an injury excuse next season. Get in the players we need to really strengthen this squad this way ETH has no where to go if the results are the same as last season. Really happy they kept him tho

Really hope it doesn’t come down to this but got a feeling it’s gonna end ugly with Ten Hag and Ineos. 1) Ineos will try to build a rotatable squad 2) ten Hag won’t rotate resulting in tension with sporting dep 3) ten Hag gets poached by Bayern if results go well or sacked if results don’t go well 4) we end up with INEOS’ yes-man

Owners success is measured in pound notes and dollars= top 4 get back in the champions league, to not spend a fortune on new players & get rid of high earning low performers, a day out at Wembley is always nice. Fans measuring "realistic" success based on the squad = a trophy and top 4 but for many top 4 could be enough. Fans who have followed the club for decades- success is measured in the time ineos gets us to get title 21! Champions league contenders.

Ste, I've been watching the overlap and hearing Neville and Keane talk about Fergie and hearing Carragher talk about his managers reminded me of what you said about Klopp only winning one league title and Liverpool fans should calm down. Fergie is a mythical figure to me, like a god. I'm 23. I was 12 when Fergie retired and neither of my parents have interest in football and I'm the oldest child so the only time i ever watched football was with my grandad when he had it on tv in his house or with my friend. My friend since were 3 (September 2004 was when we met) is a United fan so i just thought alright Manchester United sound good. And from then on I've been a United fan. I only properly started watching games under Mourinho when i bought my own laptop and could stream the games. Fergie is mythical to me. For fans who were there for Uniteds 2013 win and 2008 wins Fergie is *the* Manchester United manager. But for me he's not *real*. He's like a god. All i can do is watch footage of the 08 and 99 seasons. I wasn't *there* in any sense. So, when people say Klopp has only won one title Liverpool fans shouldn't love him so much, I guarantee you when United win the league again I'll treat our manager with more love than any Liverpool fan has treated Klopp.

Im 25, my family are all United fans so I grew up watching the games. Granted, i was late to getting into it so my first game i watched was the 2009 Carling cup win over spurs. I rememebr seeing Utd lose the CL finals in 09 and 11 and thinking we'd just get to another one soon, so fergie's brilliance didnt dawn on me untill he was gone. I disagree slightly with you though, i dont think we'd celebrate the manager when we win the league, i have a feeling the fanbase will turn more to the players or a select few when that happens. The manager will be lauded too ofc. The scousers have always been like this though, i still rememebr when they got Dalglish again post Benitez. They're just weapons

Success isn’t anything but a trophy. But we also need progress. So top four, would be progress. To get top four and a trophy is a great season. We have to remember where ten hag started in having the worst Utd in prem history without injuries,never mind last year. So a top 4 finish and/or a trophy would be acceptable this season

I think having Martinez available all season would have made a +15 goal difference. Having him available does not only mean more individual quality on the pitch (+5). His willingness to step forward and ability to defend a high line means the gap in midfield gets halved as well (+5). And his ability to send a laser pass that leads to a big chance created is something people tend to forget/ignore since he's a defender (+5).

Don't get me wrong, I am not revisionist deluded "all-was-fine", we really were crap and struggled massively. But it's not as bad as Carragher's twitter tries to show it

It's down to the transfer department to get their game on and bring in 2 serious defenders to not only partner Martinez, but cover him. Just look at City and Arsenal for example, they are stocked in that department where as United had an unlucky spell with injuries and age in that position this year. I said this before, I will say it again. I think Maguire would do well in the CDM area partnered with Mainoo. He is a real aerial threat and believe it or not, that head of his has been vital for United this season. When he's on the field and United are facing a corner or freekick, it's always better than when he is not there. Same attacking as well. He's actually an intelligent footballer, with 2 goals and 2 assists as a CB in 22 games. I bet he could up them numbers not playing on the back line where his pace is vulnerable and in the centre of the field. But i doubt that will happen, so a new CDM would be needed That for me would sort the core of the team out Then i'd be looking for an experienced striker, another Cavani, for Hojlund to learn from, someone with a couple of years left in them, who you know could step up time to time and fill in while Rasmus rests Sell sancho and greenwood, times done. The rest just let see their contracts out, unless they want to move. The youth United have could fill in the gaps 4 in needed, 2 most definitely need to be sold, a bunch of kids go out on loan for more experience, a sensible summer window

We haven't finished our transfer business yet. The 7 teams that finished above us haven't finished their transfer business yet. The 12 other teams competing with us this season (of which, 3 are newly promoted,so somewhat unknown quantities!)haven't finished their transfer business yet. And with all of that in mind, there are people commenting that a 5th place finish is unacceptable! For all we know,INEOS may have some form of long-term plan that involves developing youth,and couldn't give two... hoots about league position or trophies for a year or two. Content creators have a job to do. It's their job to generate content/engagement on a daily basis, but we don't need to board the crazy train with them...

I think almost all of our main issues are out of possession. The majority of that stems from a half press which leaves the gaping hole in midfield. That was an issue at Ajax too but it was harder to exploit given Ajax’s technical superiority over every other team in the league and a lot of teams in Europe to be fair. It’s not as easy in the premier league, the physical levels of the teams are superior to a lot of other leagues, but especially the Netherlands, so teams find it much easier to exploit that gap. If we don’t commit one way or another to a full press or no press then it’s gonna be another LONG season

Minimum requirements for ETH this season are top 4 and Europa League final. Champions League teams no longer drop into the Europa League so we have be considered one of the favourites for the competition. If we don't qualify for Champions League football, are we really making progress. I also think if our performances on the pitch don't improve and we don't have a style of play, that will be considered a failure. We can't have another league campaign where we were outplayed in 90% of the games.

Its not about one player like Martinez making a 15 shot difference, its his impact on other parts of the team. Martinez is ten Hags general, he ORGANIZES and marshals the team, on top of his individual performances. Does Rodri make a big difference to City? Just simply unrealistic expectations thinking EtH should cope not having Martinez on top of multiple other key players when a team and squad like City drop a few notches without one player. Also, consistency and match fitness was a huge issue, imagine trying to coach out structural problems and every time you make a bit of progress to addressing it, another player drops out injured. Dont get how you two dont recall having the most amount of clean sheets last year when we had a consistent team, did we concede 20+ shots regularly then? Crazy coincidence that is, but nope just EtH not being a good coach.

It's hard to do success and acceptable before seeing what players come in the summer. The squad right now minus varane and martial is paper thin in terms of quality and depth. So right now, acceptable would be top 4, success would be top 4 and a trophy.

A couple of players from challenging Arsenal and city? Wtf Ronaldo? For me acceptable is finishing above the teams Utd should finish above, Liverpool and Chelsea will be unknown quantities next season with new managers but city and Arsenal are well ahead in terms of development, Utd should be finishing above Tottenham, Villa, and Newcastle. We need to be realistic, in my opinion we are 3-4 years away from a title challenge if it goes right with the new structure. FFP has come home to roost for us, it'll be another couple of windows before icing on the cake type purchases can be made, our selling is so restricted by our past/current spending and wages debacle at the minute. Getting into top 4 should be the goal for the next couple of years, and trying to recoup our spending ability in the mean time, anything on top of that is a bonus.

You know something that needs improving, the squad! It doesn’t matter who the manager is, this squad is poor. If they don’t make changes, we get fortunate with injuries, 4th is over achieving. The guy just signed an extension and you are already keeping the Ten Hag out fires going, you muppets. This is a long term fix, 3 windows minimum and 8-9 exits, to get to a title contender and that’s if they hit on every signing. Then there’s the infrastructure and cultural changes required.

He overperformed in his first season, underperformed in his second, and won trophies in both. The way that squad threw Ole under the bus and downed tools, and the way he was a pussy with the players, playing the same uncommitted, lacklustre, 65% effort side every match till he went, and ten Hag got 3rd and the Carabao Cup, followed by the FA Cup and 8th with the worst injuries in the Premier League - he deserves a better BS assessment than that.

How can we talk about all that before even the first transfer hit the books? Imagine losing Varane, Casemiro, and a good chunk of depth in bissaka, eriksen, lindelof. Maybe maguire. And bring in some 3rd choice shit like en nessery or incredibly young inexperienced lads like yorro. What do you expect from a squad like that other than being a new chelsea? What are you fucking on about? It's NOT down to the manager at this point. It's INEOS we are assessing now. And then, come September 1st, we can discuss the expectations from the manager. That entitlement is unbelievable.

Success - at a minimum is - competing. handling players unwilling to do the assigned tactics (they do that again, they don't play), injuries curtailed (whatever has been causing that in past, it gets handled), More consistency from the youth (Mainoo is fine there, but Hojlund and Ganacho need work) - players act like a team, no more shoot first think - it needs to be like SAF's you get it to RVP or you don't play. Bruno needs to build on his captaincy ability, maybe take even more of the Cantona role mentoring the youth. While I don't criticize him for his moaning, I can see it as a negative and if he can curtail it knowing it can have a negative impact on the youth, he can turn a negative into a positive. You solve these problems, with offloading problem players and dead wood, you're a long way better than before. And do something about Rashford. either get rid or have someone he trusts sit down with him and confront him on his blindspots - which he seems to have - handle that with him he can be amazing, but if he's unwilling, then we need to cut our losses - I still hold a sliver of hope. Oh, and put your boot on Antony's ass and push as hard as humanly possible.

Dude, I think you're seriously underestimating those teams. City (Through all their cheating.) will probably win again. Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and probably even Newcastle, will all be competing for top 4, Aston Villa might even put up a fight again. Imo, that kind of competition for top 4 is a hard battle for all but City, the only other teams that have a reasonably preped squad is Arsenal and Liverpool. Transfers for all the others clubs this window, will play a huge role. I have faith that Hag, will put us in the top 4 and that's all we can hope for atm, imo.
