Tunis is the capital of Tunisia, a North African country with an interesting history. In recent times, the city has attracted a growing number of tourists who come for the culture, the history, the interesting cuisine, the museums, and the chance to experience a city with both modern and ancient sides.
This video shows many of the attractions of the city. We show aspects of the modern city, dive deep into the ancient Medina which is still a thriving and fascinating area, visit the government and majestic Kasbah Square area, and learn a little of the culture.
After travelling through the suburbs, we experience the remains of Carthage, an ancient city which was the center of the Punic Empire, was destroyed by the Romans, and was then rebuilt as the most important Roman city in Africa. Here today, is the impressive Cathedral of Saint-Louis of Carthage and the Carthage National Museum.
As a complete contrast, we visit the charming community of Sid Bou Said with its cobbled streets and blue and white architecture which occupies an imposing seaside location overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It may be touristy in parts, but the market, the cafes, and the bars are well-worth exploring. It is a good place to pick up a small souvenir.
There is little to buy at the Roman Baths of Antoninus except cold drinks but the remains of what were the largest Roman baths in Africa are a great place for wandering. Be amazed by the structures that were built nearly 2000 years ago and still stand today.
To round out the tourist experience, we show some hotel and restaurant options and experience the local cuisine in all its glory. Tunis, you are a fascinating place to visit.
