25 күн бұрынI took the Tama Museum Train and the Tama Train in Wakayama Prefecture. These trains, operated by Wakayama Electric Railway, are famous for Japan's first cat stationmaster, "Tama." Although Tama has passed away, Nitama and Yontama are now active.
The train themed after Tama is luxurious and very enjoyable.

I read on Wikipedia that Tama was responsible for bringing over a billion yen to the local economy from tourists. Well done little Tama! Hope she's watching the trains in heaven!

D, M, R means Dog, Mouse, and Rabbit! The "D" chair has dog ears, the "M" mouse ears and the "R" rabbit ears.

I was there a couple of weeks ago too. Instead of going back from the same station, we took a walk in the neighborhood, around a small pond to the previous station and took the train back from there. I wish I had more time to explore there it was amazing

For the 1st time, I've fallen in love with Japan. Lovely quirky laid back feeling with a nod to the past and a love of cats. Japan always seems crazy rushed every day so visit, yes, but never stay to enjoy a slow day. How very nice.

Thank you for posting this. It is the main reason me and my wife plan to visit Japan. We come from Bakersfield, CA where we have our own famous cat, Tara. We have a more... American famous cat as Tara was caught on video defending her young human from a rogue dog. We also had a kind calico and want to bring respect an honour to Tama from Tara and Chas. This video just inspired us more, and we hope to go to Kishi and the greater Wakayama - Osaka area soon.

If I recall the story correctly, there is a Santama, who's called Sun-tama-tama now. She was considered as a successor for Tama, but the person caring for her in Okayama didn't want to give her up, but she does serve as stationmaster at an Okayama station.

Ah Crud I think I might have to find a way to get to Japan to ride this train and see the Station master. For some reason this Video is just hitting me right in the heart string's and I'm just crying like a wee child. Guess it's all the Adorable Cat stuff that is making me cry. Or probably that we Have a cat that kinda look's like the station master Only smaller lol and Short hair. I will have to work hard to come to your country some day. That train is so cute. It's so interesting that Japan has so many themed trains. You must have a lot of railroad tracks there. You asked about the D M and R on the seats. I think they were the first letter of the animal depicted: Dog, Mouse and Rabbit,.

@@experience_japan No. We don't have them in the USA. We also don't have so many railroad tracks. I don't think the American people would like it. They already complain about having to wait for trains to pass by on the tracks we already have. The closest I've been in a themed train is the monorail at Disneyland.

17:49 Interestingly, DMR are the initials of my name - Diogo M. Ribeiro -, so you can imagine the surprise when I saw my initials on seats on a train in Japan. At least I now know that I have seats reserved for me in Japan. Jokes aside, I think they represent the shapes of the benches: Dog, Mouse and Rabbit.

If you like Japanese cat trains there’s also a cat themed train that runs on the line to Gotokuji temple in Tokyo which is the home of the famous maneki-neko lucky cat statues. If you go there you will see enormous numbers of the statues and even buy one in the temple shop to take some luck home with you

I think someone else got it already, but I believe the D M R stands for Dog Mouse and Rabbit as the silhouettes match those animals. Not 100% sure though

I love it! Every detail is so nice and magical. It feels like antidepressant train and station. I would want to buy so many things... Does the kitty have to be on display all the time? She is so beautiful I hope she is okay and happy. The train musseum is so nice and the Tama train too. What are there on the library? Are there all books about cats? I love cats so much.

Been there last year... got the strawberry train instead..... and when we back to the main station, the cat train pass by.. not lucky met yontama instead nitama (and mostly sleeping all the time)not lucky again
