It might be helpful to note that full service petrol stations have opening and closing times that are tighter than self-service ones. It seems something like 8:00-19:00 is quite normal. Some self-service petrol stations are open 24H, but not nearly all of them.

This video was so perfect! Filled up my trusty Toyota for the first time today without a hitch. Especially the change machine, that bit might have been confusing without your input. ありがとうございます

Useful explanation! Thanks for the video! I was a little worried about being able to understand a self-service pump. I'll try it late night for my first trip 😁

Yes but as you can see only 3 Yen per liter which means you have to pump around 40 Liters to save the equivalent of 1 Dollar

Mmm. So in Japan paying with cash is more expensive than using a credit card? In the U.S. it's usually the opposite.

The credit card discounts are for specific cards, think of a store brand card discount

Just curious, how would the employees at the station know if your car need petrol or diesel?
@thany3
@thany3 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think they know as in knowing from the top of their head, although some cars are quite popular. I think they just know where to look, or have some way to look it up. As a foreigner you might not know where to find this information, as it is probably written in Japanese somewhere (like in the car manual or something). But as he said, most cars are regular anyway, and at the rental desk they will confirm this with you. Only special cars need diesel or high octane, and if that's the case, they will confirm that very specifically and I'm sure they won't rent you the car until they are sure you understand this :)

Tipping is considered rude in Japan. Don't do it. Anywhere. If you want to give them more money, just buy more things :)
