I rented a car last year in Tokyo - 2 week booking. Used Toyota. What was amazing is that they took no deposit and bank details. I was a bit concerned that I’d show up and no car. But arrived in Tokyo and sure enough all was in order. Driving in Japan is good. I suggest keeping some loose change as there are some small occasional rolls. It’s really cheap.

I just checked the cost to drive from tokyo to osaka ... The cost is over 5x the normal price of returning the car to the pickup.... Which makes it not weigh it
