When we first met James Fisher at the West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, the 36-year-old was about to be the third person in the U.S. to have an experimental brain surgery in hopes of helping him overcome severe substance abuse. NBC News’ Kate Snow interviewed the team of doctors, followed the procedure’s progress, and caught up with James four weeks later. He says he felt an immediate difference.» Subscribe to NBC News: nbcnews.to/SubscribeToNBC

Wow I am amazed I hope it helps. Unfortunately, drugs stole my life now I feel like I'm just waiting to die, I'm jaded towards life. It's all vanity, a chasing of the wind. I wish the best for addicts suffering throughout the world. Amen 🙏🏾 🙏🏾 🙏🏾 💔😥

Hey Rusty! You don't have to be jaded forever. Healing comes with patience and dilligence. Please think about what it will take for you to reach happiness, and go for it all the way. Even if you have to walk a thousand miles, or climb the tallest mountain. Even if it takes fifty years, you can be truely happy and free one day. It's not always like this.

ALL THE FRIENDS OF JIMMY K SAY HAYYYY. I wonder how he is now. I can see success w/ this being offered to clinical sociopaths (not an accusation of Mr Fisher, however if this can help those w no emotions to feel more normal..) Nothing but good wishes my brother.

We've loss hundred of thousands of people due to Big Pharma ,they should be paying for this procedure,not the client. I always wonder what unfulfilled gift and talents each of the them had. Would we be a better country , had they not taken drugs. My heart break for those addicted in our society. God bless them and may they be released from that burden .

I don’t entirely blame big pharm. When I had to take opioids the doctor warned be that they could be addicting. So I went with the intention that I was gonna quit. However, with the amount of chronic pain I was feeling, I know most people would also take the opioids, and blame doctors or big pharma that and that it wasn’t their fault. You always have a choice to not take such meds, most people do, because it’s an easy way out when you’re living in constant pain.

Now they don't need to do this anymore. Focused ultrasound is just as effective as deep brain stimulation without any drilling, and is being investigated for many conditions. HUGE potential for mental health, addiction, chronic pain and numerous other issues.

While I love that film and understand the message, you cannot weigh the all to realistic outcome for addicts of narcotics (prison, psych wards, death) to the possible outcome from a low budget horror flick. America has lost 1.3 million between ages of 25-64 since 1990 - 2018

Were you even listening? He tried to detox a dozen times. And now they don't even need to do surgery. They can use beams of ultrasound to penetrate the brain without any drilling. And this will fix his mental health and enable him to fix his life. And most importantly of all, if something works, it works. Who cares how it's done.

Why not improve the quality of life in America instead of cutting people's heads open to fix addiction. That will never happen though, the rich and powerful want you sick and dumb so they can stay in power.
@467076
@467076 11 ай бұрын
The rich and powerful definitely don’t want you to succeed that is true. I do agree on that. That being said, we live in the age of internet we’re literally anyone can learn anything and be anything here in the USA, there are tons of examples and yet they don’t. People continue to be stupid and lazy and just blame the rich. Literally everyone has a phone nowadays. They can literally go on their phones and google, “how to earn more money” and yet they choose not to. They go on TikTok’s and KZfaq and complain about how the rich and powerful are holding them back from succeeding. No wonder most people are broke and stupid.
@squamish4244
@squamish4244 17 күн бұрын
Why not both? This is for people who are already relapsed addicts. And if it works for a lot of people, far less people will be sick and dumb. AND we can improve the quality of life in America. It's not an either/or thing.

Why can't addicts just be the way they are? Why is it so bad to be on a pain killer for the entirety of your life, if so you require? I understand people think this is unethical, but why? Alcohol is used to "numb the senses" and people drink and drive, die from alcohol poisoning, and other deadly effects. SO why can't a person addicted to pain killers, receive the drugs they want and need to function? SO what if someone enjoys being high. I just don't understand it. I am in excruciating pain, that I hope no one ever suffers with. I have the MOST PAINFUL disease known to man, CRPS or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. I CAN NOT GET THE PAIN MEDS I NEED because of the "War on Drugs". It is UNFAIR that someone who does NOT understand my pain, to tell me, I cannot have pain meds that are known to work.
@mud6866

addiction is not medicine. Addiction is when the drugs you use make you SICK. Did you know the word DRUG means anything used as medicine? Medicine is only medicine when you use it sparingly to treat an illness or injury. Once you use slightly too much, it becomes poison. Look it up. Addiction is when you use too much and get poisoned.
@mud6866
@mud6866 2 жыл бұрын
Btw you ca not get pain medication anymore because pain medication is extremely damaging, they are PROTECTING you by not allowing you to damage yourself. Pain meds do not heal crps or fibromialgia or any of those. You have to try other methods, like physio-therapy and dietary changes. You cant just pump yourself full of pain meds. Btw abusing pain meds will CAUSE more pain.

no one should force someone into sobriety from a moral standpoint. There really is no problem with people having pain medication. The only problem is when things get worse and worse and people use more and more and they get out of control.
@rondaknott9545
@rondaknott9545 5 ай бұрын
It starts with pain pills for something then the pills don't work so you take more then more then stronger pills then they stop giving them to you so you look elsewhere for something similar and find something stronger and more and more then one day you get the wrong one and die or you search for a pain killer for so long and hard you lose your family over it then your life it's a snowball affect. If you don't understand then you're never been in pain before.

I have anxiety and I don’t seek treatment because I’m seen as young and I am functional so they assume I’m a drug seeker. I literally have physical cardiac issues due to my anxiety. I take fish oil and try my best. I don’t want holes drilled in my brain or to take medication. I just go about my life sweating and stressed out but I’m not going to get a lobotomy

Uh... no? The entire point of this is trying to find happiness without the use of mood altering substances. If you need take something in order to feel normal or change perspective then your brain is defective. Trust me. I'm an addict with 15 years of continuing use of all types of drugs including psychedelics. When the drugs wear off I'm left empty. Ivr had epiphanies due to hallucinogens but they were fleeting. I can logically talk about them but the spiritual feeling I got from them have all but worn off.
