Hi everyone! I am sorry for missing a few weeks of videos! I'm back into it again and all good! It is great to be back in the studio! This is just a fun watercolour showing that you can just work simply and play on a small scale and see what you can come up with. It is still good to see if you can have some light lights and dark darks to make the painting work from a distance.
Happy painting everyone!
Paper:
Arches cold pressed, 300gsm, watercolour paper, 100% cotton
Paints: all winsor and newton artist quality paints
The dark used initially was left over paint from another painting for Patreon. It was a mixture of:
Burnt Umber, Cobalt Turquoise, Alizarin Crimson (permanent), Mix of Cobalt Blue and Light Red and some Raw Umber.

Rives BFK etching paper. Probably best to source this from your local store so you can look after the paper and not have it posted unless you are buying a large amount of paper and it will be looked after. Some people have been extremely happy with the state of the paper when it arrived (and some not!)
I love this paper it is soft and lights are lifted easily from it.

Cool, I just spotted this live now! One thing I've noticed in your videos is how you use all the space around the paper. It gives you freedom of movement which gives your paintings that light and soft energy feel to them. I think I'll need to sort out my painting space to give me a wider area free of clutter. I love experimenting, so this video is a fantastic inspiration to continue my haphazard but fun approach to watercolour. Love your work Scott, I'm always recommending you to others.

Hi Mark! Yes the freedom to paint past the edges of the paper is important. It is why most of the time I like to attach a single piece of paper to a board and the board is best if it extends out past the size of the paper by at least a few inches even more! Also I like to paint standing as it frees up my body to move as I paint which I think allows me to paint more freely compared to sitting. I appreciate many people would have issues standing for hours. You are very observant!

Good to see you back! I love your loose style and tutorials, - they are helping me find my own way in watercolour, but what’s even more important (to me) give me happiness with each of your videos. You’ve obviously been having a tough time……hope things get better for you very soon 🌻🤗🌻

Hi Sue! Thanks so much! I agree, like you say, the most important thing is the happiness each one of us gets from painting or watching others paint and to learn and grow. Thanks for your lovely words! Happy painting!

I doubt I will ever stop painting watercolor 2 years strong painting everyday. As a person in recovery it keeps me alive, I may take it to an extreme though. Sometimes I paint to much if that's possible.

Welcome back! You’re an inspiration. I’m curious how you frame your paintings. Do you buy them ready made?
@ScottSwinson
@ScottSwinson 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue! Thanks! good to be back! Most of the time, because I use unusually shaped pieces of paper when doing finished watercolours, I have to get them framed. To be honest these days I try and sell original work unframed. It saves me money and the customer can find a frame they like that suits the space they are putting the artwork up in. It's much more cost effective to buy ready made frames you just have to make sure the mat has acid free paper and pulp otherwise it will turn yellow/brown over time. Thanks Sue!
