Deer and Deer Hunting

6 жыл бұрын

www.deeranddeer... One of the most common questions asked every year is about how to hunt pressured bucks. Whether you're on public land or private tracts in a club, deer that get pressured by hunters, repetitious patterns or other influences can become tough to hunt. Mature bucks aren't stupid, either, and will seek the thickest areas where they feel most protected while being able to see, hear and move around with some security. That's where Steve Bartylla likes to hunt, and in this episode of Hunt 'em Big he explains why finding these big buck magnets is a key to successfully hunting pressured deer. Hunt 'em Big, Season 3 Episode 6.

the reason that you have so many views / viewers Steve is because of the truth and honesty that people feel when they listen to you and watch your videos. I don't know, you may be blowing smoke up our butts, but I don't think so. The fact that you go out and spend 50% of your time hunting public land so that you can give us real truthful honest and knowledgeable tips and advice, is not lost on me either. you just hit it straight on the head, go in the spring and put your stand in the tree and pretend that you're going to be hunting the very next day and then take your stand down take it home and you're ready to walk in there a couple of hours early on opening day of the season. it's really really hard to do that because you want to look around and you want to see if there are rubs and scrapes and tracks and all of that good stuff and you want to be doing something that month before the season, but you're just educating the deer. Such great advice Steve, and I believe that you are one of the most knowledgeable, friendly and humble people in the hunting world. I really appreciate what you do and I really hope that you are what you seem to be.

Sometimes the truth hurts, but at least its real and tangible. A lot of the industry outdoor hunt shows, make these "fairy tale" situations, tactics, and outcomes look real nice. Then, people think.. "hmm I'll apply that where I hunt" sadly most become frustrated and lose interest. This was real talk, with real advice. Hats off Steve, for the time and words! Keep up the good content guys.

Thanks for being the voice of reason Steve. I hunt Michigan. It's a very pressured state. Unless you're the only guy hunting a 250 acre farm or larger, when people go into the woods and grunt every other second or rattle all day, they putting more pressure on the deer, making them more nocturnal. Pressured deer are smart deer.

I learned this the hard way this season. I started hunting a high pressure public ground because that’s all I had access to. First 3 hunts I did what everyone else did with not even a deer sighting even tho I set up on tracks. Attempt 4 I set up on a funnel where there was 0 sign of humans in an edge area and saw 3 deer within range but didn’t come into my lane.

I think your advice is solid and extremely helpful. I use to hunt using the advice I'd get from the hunting shows and it never worked but the advice that I've gotten from you and a few other guys have helped me out tremendously. I would love to get into land management. I live for developing a peace of property. Creating hinge cuts, using hinge cuts for bedding edge feathering, blockading and redirecting deer where I want them to go has helped me out us creating unique food plots and trails throughout the property is definitely the way to go. Keeping deer movement during hunting g hours is what I'm trying g to implement. I don't care where they go at night. Thanks again!!!

I’ve lived and hunted in Alabama my whole life. He’s 100% right. These shows where bucks come walking out in a field??? Yeah right. I’ve never, in 25 years of hunting, seen a buck in a field. Not one time. Bucks even walking in light cover doesn’t happen. Bucks here stay in the thickest, deepest woods. I get them on camera in the middle of the night and “maybe” 4-5am, but rarely during daylight. Rarely. I don’t know if they’re smarter down here or it’s the buck-to-doe ratio, but deer down here don’t act at all like the videos. Still entertaining to watch...

I found the perfect spot. I patterned the deer for a year. It was 100 yards in off the road. I set up and watched as 3 does came out but I couldn't do anything without a doe tag. I went back a couple days later and while sitting in my stand A FREAKING FAMILY, mom, dad, and a kid came STOMPING out of the bush right from the swamp where the deer's bed was. They weren't even dressed for hiking and my best guess is they were looking for mushrooms. I doubt I'll see another deer there for a month. Public Land Sucks.

Rob Stewart I feel for you man. I quit hunting when I had to hunt public. why is it that places that have Dove hunts and duck hunts can have an organized blind drawing system and limit the pressure, but no state does that for deer? at least they should try it for a few of the smaller properties anyway.

Yea it sucks. Last week I took a 3 mile hike with my climber gethin the stand and no lie like 30 minutes later I start hearing deer moving in the brush then I here dirt bikes. They came riding past my stand like 10 of them about 40 to 50 yards from my stand. I was heated
@robreke
@robreke 4 жыл бұрын
I stopped reading at "100 yards off the road" dude, you got to hike a mile or more in. Most hunters will go no further than 1/3 a mile off the nearest road so you sure as shootin have to go further than that. only 100 yards off the road is an insult

One of a few pockets I've found that aren't hunted that much is right next to a major interstate highway. There are beds there as close as 40 yards from the highway

You gain as ton of respect when I learned how much time you spend on public land. Most of us average Joes just don't ever or rarely get a chance to hunt well managed whitetail habitat. Now I know that you have experience with the type of deer I hunt not just hunting ranches.

Great down to earth video! That's how I hunted when I was in my 20's-30's. I cam home wet muddy dirty and stinking going to the hardest nastiest places to hunt. I was pretty successful. But man dragging a dead deer out of an islands in the swamps SUCKED though. I actually had one place I had to take a 10 foot plank out so I could get to it, and walked on roots ect to stop being up to my neck in mucky stink. I don't know how the deer could walk or travel on pointed feet? Some places it was like walking in a jumping castle the water level was so I the ground jiggled.

Steve is right on half but not all. Going deep in the whitetail core or where no ones been there can be really risky. It's a good idea at the same time its a bad idea. If you've been tracked by deer in that hideout. You're done hunting that parcel for the month or year. That deers probably moved his hideout location in private ground. Going to the core or hideout once or twice in a season is ok. But all the time. You're just educating the deer.

Thanks for the great videos! Question: I do hunt on public land that does have lots of pressure and ruckus. But I have recently figured out a spot to hunt like you're talking about. Its a spot that nobody has the gumption to go to. If I understand you correctly--I should just sit and hunt quietly and NOT use grunts, rattling, can call bleats etc etc? Just making sure I understand. Chances are, the other hunters will be using all sorts of calls.

the woodsman Yup stay out of it don't pressure the deer learn there pattern, where they're bedding and where there going to feed. Then when they start showing up in daylight then go after them. I'm guessing late October you will start to see daylight activity

@jimbigboystoys4077

I’ve found that the best way to hunt pressured late season deer is to Hunt in, or right next to the thickest most impenetrable stuff you can find.... and be there a good HOUR BEFORE DAYLIGHT. The only downfall, is if you shoot one, you have your work cut out for you getting him out!!

After years of hunting an begin super frustrated I agree with everything he is saying however one thing he forgot to mention, even during the rut these big mature bucks just don't move that much. They have a small area that move thru during daylight hours, so #1 this is try to find where he is bedded then you'll have success if you don't spook him in the process
