Just a quick note from a 50 year Alaskan and long time sport fisherman there. A 60 pound halibut hooked in 40 to 50 feet of water will definitely run like that. They are incredibly strong and in shallow water make long long hard runs. In deeper water they will make a hard run and then quit because they are just hugging the bottom. Once you start bringing them up they will run again but alway down and away. Love the channel, have been a subscriber since the beginning so I'm not a troll I just hope you catch a big one some day in shallow water so you can see what they are really like. Since you are starting to make regular trips to Alaska it will happen. Hope it's not in a kayak because that will be a real zoo. We always shot the big ones with a "snake charmer" because they can be so hard on the boat and anything around. Keep up the great videos and my hats off to the wonderful photography Joslin does. I was a journalist and know what it takes.

His knife and plating skills are some of the very best I’ve ever seen and I worked with some very skilled people in restaurants. As I like to say: watching his skills is the favorite part of his videos.

Raul did great as a new fisherman! Didn't panic, listened to the Sensei, took his time and landed a terrific fish that fed everyone. Well done Raul !! Thanks for the really outstanding content!!

Every one of your catch and cooks is inevitably the same result 🔥. Absolutely amazing. You are the best around Taku. Your filet skills are so good I could watch a separate channel of you filleting fish all day long! Amazing vid as always, the Alaska vids are awesome.

Could have been a salmon shark. That line snapped easy once home boy set pressure on that line. They're really cool, but fiesty fish. But glad you're enjoying Alaska this summer with your air kayak! I recently took a charter there and got my first toad halibut! Stay safe

Taku. You’ve really inspired me To get back in fishing but also to expand my experience in foraging but mostly trying out kayak fishing. Id love to see a video giving a break down to people how to do “kayak fishing” gear breakdown. How you choose the areas. What your setup would look like for a simple kayak fishing day. Alll that stuff. Would be very interesting to me

Being a long time, old time AK resident and fisher, I closely view your videos for??? A very enjoyable video with a super fine Homer AK beach scenes featuring Outdoor Chef's super fine prepped feasts. Scenery around your fishing kayak trip really searched my memory as to where you were. Plus, vehicles on a Homer City beach? That would never have occurred in the 60's-70's. Many credits to you catching a halibut on a kayak in AK. Many years ago kayak fishing and beach vehicles would have been were ridiculous thoughts in K Bay. K Bay once had a big "Dungie" crab fishery that I think got over harvested many years ago and it has yet to recover. Those beach fishers in your background were maybe after pinks (humpies). But I have never ever seen any bait and wait beach fishers in Homer. Success for pinks used to be mainly casting Pixie lures from the shore.

Great video! You might999 try the "Deeper Pro" depth/fish finder. It's completely portable/rechargeable and displays on your phone. You can even get a mounting arm so you can move it form boat to kayak, etc. Not affiliated, I just really have fun with it.

Those small flat fish I love to fillet and stuff with crab, cheese, and aromatics (onion, garlic, peppers, w/e). Bread and bake or batter and deep fry. Either way is YUM! Edit: Where did Jocelyn get the blueberry mead (Melomel)? I LOVE trying new commercial meads. Mostly helps me tweak my own.
