Spellbook of judgment is love

It makes me so sad even thinking about it because Prophecy/Spellbook is my favorite archetype. I managed to get two copies of Judgement when it came out, and then, by the time I could get a third, it was banned, haha. It's way too powerful to be in the game, but still. It feels bad, man.

Painful Choice was a staple spell in every single deck even before graveyard effects were even a thing in the game - think about that. Even when the negative was an actual negative and you were never going to see those 4 cards again it was considered powerful enough to always include a copy. Lol

RotA at 2 copies in some of the earlier YGO videogames for the DS and the PSP is kinda ridiculous.

Bonus Points for TF Special because it actually lets you disable the Banlist altogether aswell if you just want to play whatever hilariously broken stuff you can come up with. Speaking of which, there's also Legacy of the Duelist which does something similar. The Banlist it has is only used if you want to play online against other people, against the AI literally every Card in the game is unlimited by default (all the game does is to highlight a Deck with a Symbol to denote that it wouldn't be online-legal)

in that case, try yu-gi-oh legacy of the duelist. You can play every card as long as you play offline which leads to very broken combos xD

But i guess Shiranui was the best deck until now that fully took advantage. No suprise that "That grass looks grenner" was the first ban card in DL

@@AnTunZee Tea Gardner players would spam a whole bunch of healing spell cards like dian kito to go over the 5000 LP on the first turn of the game. then spend 5000 LP to use Cyber Stein. also Tea has a special skill called Life Cost 0. it can only be used if you have less than 1000 LP for one time only. It basically says you can activate a cards effect without paying any LP. so basically you can use cyber steins effect twice in 1 turn!

Yeah the problem are no longer the cards, but every convoluted effect Konami has created, effectively making the game just for the p2w crowd.

Never mind gren maju, what about thunder dragons? Gren Maju's banishes only pump up gren maju 1.6k, thunder dragon can banish 4 cards that help them combo.

@@IamGrimalkin I took it to mainly be about Banishing face-down, since Banishing itself has been a form of searching cards since the Duel Monsters anime with Gold Sarcophagus and Different Dimension Capsule. That and the game has evolved to the point where Banishing is like an alternative to the Graveyard as a 2nd hand for some decks.

@@BloodfelX Thinking again, yeah I think it was. I'd just misremembered what they said in the video. Well I guess Gren Maju could benefit quite a bit from this errata, thinking about it, but to be honest that has more to do with its large number of unsearchable power cards than the banish 4. At this point, I think Gren Maju has hit a critical mass of deck banishing, where banishing any more cards won't help. Modern Gren Maju essentially uses the deck as fuel, and more banish means less fuel for e.g. Orochi.

Eh, I'd still say the problem was Seraphinite. The only reason non-GK decks used BF was Seraphinite having a stupid combination of letting you mill a LIGHT monster and giving a second normal summon, without that, no one outside of GKs would ever have played it. To be clear, BF definitely should have locked you into GKs or something, but BF could have given you a blowjob and done your taxes on playing and not seen play without Seraphinite.

Brilliant Fusion did help Gem Knights. It just made them an even bigger FTK or bust deck because Lapis Lazuli and Master Diamond looping will eventually burn your opponent, and Brilliant Fusion made that way more consistent.

For gem-knights brilliant fusion does literally everything. It sets up your grave with 2 normals, while giving you a +1. Then you either get a completely free phantom quartz or a completely free master diamond. And if you really wanted too you could then make union carrier and go into block dragon plays. ALL WITHOUT YOUR NORMAL SUMMON

I mean, even then, what it would turn into is either a free double summon and extra search off of Reaper (AKA a free link 3 negate Apollusa with I.P. Masquerina + An additional Spellbook), or the World who can also add 2 of the Spellbooks (Including Judgement itself) from your GY to your hand, then nuke the rest of the board (Since there's no way you do not have 4 spellbook cards in your hand after playing Judgment, especially with the 2 you're adding back to your hand with World's first effect). Add that to the advantage you're getting from all the spellbooks you just added to your hand, and you're set. Would it nerf the card, absolutely. Would it still be healthy enough to return? God no.

@@airtempest8945 i don't think getting to use world of prophecy's effect during the end phase would really be that great given the current meta and the fact that you would be nuking your own field as well, in a deck that doesn't have that much gy effects unlike lightsworn, it would just mean getting rid of your key pieces without any real way to hit for damage afterwards since the turn would end, it would just be a worse zeus There are a few issues i can list off from the top of my head: First off you would need to run 3 judgements and a crowley, maybe 3 magicians, to make sure judgement resolves first so you get the full benefit at which point someone could just ash blossom you, you can run called by to prevent this but it would be taking a spot on your starting hand, which is not that bad but could lead to some issues if you draw 2 Now let's say you resolve judgement, you combo as usual (secrets->master->knowledge/life/power/fate/eternity) with some luck you would have used 5 spellbooks this turn plus 3 toon bookmark, 3 upstart, 2 engages into hornet drones, etc ofc running all of these draw cards would probably eat up a lot of deck space and mess up your starting hand, so only 1 of those combos since you only need 3 more from there to summon a lv9, at any point during this combo you could get disrupted or negated and since judgment doesn't give you protection unlike multiroll it would hurt a lot and probably stop you from getting world, so it's very fragile Now let's say you summon world this would be an exclusively going second play since you would just be nuking your own board otherwise, you can revive it afterwards with spellbook of life but the main issue is that your opponent would just need to have any type of monster negation to stop you from nuking the field, apollousa alone could just negate the effect of world, and most people run her to protect themselves from things like nibiru, they could also just chain something to the effect and make you miss timing since world is a ''when'' not an ''if'' so it would stop you from resolving it, they could also just negate life during your next turn since they would have a full turn to set up negations and maybe even banish world from the field, there's also the issue with destroying your own field, you could end up in a situation where you cleared the field but can swing for lethal given them enough time to recover, so it wouldn't really be broken, slightly stronger than average at best

Well technically reaper of prophecy can maybe floodgate into something but since you only get it during the EP and getting to that +7 is still not that easy it wouldn't be that much different than using justice of prophecy, still maybe if you add another clause to only count spellbook spell cards rather than any spellbook card it could work just fine

Maybe like 3 turns, like the Deck Virus cards.

@@BloodfelX its not about whenever the archetype can function or not, its whenever its restrictive or not. Both lock often. Abyss Actors can work, you'll just have to think harder. Aka slap Dogmatika, Goliath, eXceed or Mythical Beasts.

They don't lock you, but Darklords. Way too resource heavy to be useful. Ixchel and Trade In are run at 3 for a reason

I feel like you might want to figure out if you're going 'old' or 'new' with this one, just because the sort of situation where the archetype just isn't DONE yet is a very different situation to 'theoretically complete but not quite there'. I'm thinking stuff like Myutants. Me saying they have 'potential' isn't like saying Ghostrick has 'potential', since we're pretty sure there's going to be another wave of Myutant support soon, we just don't know what it looks like.

@@thatguyintherain3168 It was acutally a Monarch deck that abused it. But it was indeed used for an OTK. A Monarch into Cyber Stein to summon Cyber-Twin Dragon. With either Mobius or Zaborg it was easy to clear the field for an OTK. There are so many wholes in the recordings of yu-gi-oh's history. That's why I like the history of yu-gi-oh series by cimo

@@Artiquin i wouldnt say that i dont like combo decks but i dont like going second and starting with 3 hand cards while my opponent has 4 negates on his board, i guess i preffer the game either simpler, but tbh i havent played much recently which makes it worse since i dont know whats good and what to run in extra deck but i miss the time where u could play graydle and still win despite the enemy having a superior deck, if id go first with graydle now and id have maxx c i could throw it out and the opponent could set up his board and then i could eventually still break through since i have 10 handcards or he doesnt make a big board and i eventually can get through with less handcards, without maxx c youd always loose since theres no way for graydle to get through graydle is just an example here for any simple deck without big combos

@@themonarchserupt4051 Well that’s understandable. I started playing for the first time this year with Synchrons, and the thing is, the deck is a long combo deck that doesn’t even end on enough negates to remotely win against anything. Maxx C would just take that deck and throw it into the ground and make it unplayable, even though it’s not good to begin with. The way to fix the game is to prevent things like Maxx C, multiple negates, and multiple floodgates from being able to be played in the first place. Problem is, Konami isn’t going to do that when they have product to sell.

It's still 60. The way he said it makes it seems like it changed, but it didn't. I think he put that "at the time" there because way before that, there was no maximum limit at all to deck sizes.

And they removed the ability to have an unlimited number of cards in your deck only because someone actually used it. I recall it was actually an official and they did it to demonstrate why it needed to be removed. Not sure why Konami went with 60 instead of 99 (which early video games used) when they implemented a cap though.
