We drove from Perth to Cape York as the first part of our eastern states trip. Coming off the barge at the Jardine River we experienced a fuel supply problem that plaged us on and off the next 12,000km. We paid $1.2K to get it looked at but the problem would come and go. We limped across the Nullarbor and back to Perth from Port Lincoln at 80kph with a 1 hour catnap near Balladonia at 3am. Shit happens mate, it's all part of the journey 🤘😊

Lithium jump pack saved us twice on a recent trip. No stress just hook it up and you'll be going in no time if it's just a low battery.

Hi guys, remember the Christmas giveaways, one item was a itech JS80 lithium power/jump start pack. I honestly thought you had one of these due to the concept you gave one away. Bet you wished you'd had one on the day. Bet you've hit itech up for one now for yourselves. I thank you for your garbage collection, priceless covering this, embassordors for retaining access & sites open. Follow their lead people. Regards, Wealie.

A lithium battery jump starter is part of my 4WD tool kit. You can get them practically anywhere these days. I'm sure your sponsor - Anaconda - even have a Dune4WD version of it. I've never needed to use it on my own vehicle yet (touch wood), but I've helped out two fellow 4WDers in the past 3yrs w/it. Saves them connecting their vehicle directly to your 4WD's electrics.

My monies on a faulty battery. My wife had same same problem and I had to catch the bus and rescue her with my itechworld js80 lithium jumpstart more than once. The battery appeared to take charge and whilst it was warm from charging, could start car but once it got cold overnight it just died again. I let her borrow my jumpstart as she had to go to work, and it performed effortlessly until I could work out whether it was the alternator or battery at fault. Being a smart alternator it's difficult but if it's smart, it would save itself unlike the older styled alternators. The strange thing was that the battery would take charge but would not last long when it got cold again, I suppose a heated battery would accelerate the chemical reaction required to start the car, but once it got cold, died off.

Oh good to know, thanks for the insight! Mine seems to have been starting ok in the few months since, but can't afford to have it happen again while in the middle of no-where. Will look into the battery further and probably pick myself up a jump starter as well. 🙂

Those "stock batterys" in the dmax are garbage. Replace it with a aftermarket branded battery. Supacharge are good bang for ur buck. With high cca to run a winch Seen ur "new roof rack" on the back bone looking system. How have u mounted that? The dmax rhino rack back bone system only has 4 mounting tabs to bolt the platform to it, i was looking to off it and put load bars up but they are too far apart to be of use. Ur solution looks good with the little half rack.
@explorebound
@explorebound 4 ай бұрын
Yeah that might be the way to go I reckon! The roof rack is a bit of a frankenstein job haha, it's actually a Rola Ridge mount (same as the Rhino back-bone I believe). It also only has the 4 mounting holes from factory, so I had to drill two new holes close to the middle of the ridge to mount my OCAM mesh platform (single-cab size). That way the platform sits infront of the rooftop tent, while the rear section of the ridge mount goes under the tent with enough clearance for off-road movement of the canopy.

What ended up being the cause of the flat battery?
@explorebound
@explorebound 4 ай бұрын
I believe the factory alternator is under-powered for what we're using it for and wasn't charging the battery up as much as it should have been with a large chunk of the power going to the 40A DCDC charger in the canopy.

@@explorebound Yep. Might need a VSR inline with the DC-DC. My DC-DC adjusts its output according to the main battery, but I don't have a smart alternator currently. My new setup will, so this may save me a flat main battery in the future.
@Ranger670
@Ranger670 4 ай бұрын
@@explorebound Can you turn off the smart alternator in the D Max? It was one of the first things recommended to me ( by the service manager!) when I had my 2nd battery installed. Simple computer job for a techie at service time.
@explorebound
@explorebound 4 ай бұрын
@@Ranger670 Hmm that's a good question, I don't believe so but perhaps it's a tech job as you mentioned. I'll look into this for future but am also considering an alternator upgrade as the factory Dmax one is only 90A unfortunately, and with a 40A DCDC and spotlights that draw close to 24A I'm definitely maxing the poor thing out most of the time.

what happened to your retractable awning? and its campers like us and the small minority that care these days that will help to keep parks open fingers crossed.
@explorebound
@explorebound 4 ай бұрын
It was alright but prefer the simplicity of the old-school roll out awning. The legs on the retractable model were also 3-part poles instead of 2-part poles which made it a bit harder to setup solo.
