We explore the Algarve coast in the South of Portugal and spend some time visiting family while staying in the beautiful town of Portimao. This is one of our absolute favourite spots in Western Europe.
A couple from Australia and Norway who set sails from Norway on a Beneteau Oceanis 40 in late 2018 to explore the world by sailboat. (Yup, another sailing couple doing the standard route and documenting it on film.)

Nicole - Great video. You are a troubleshooting wiz bang! I was guessing it could be a water tank leak. I'm glad that you don't have that problem, it could be a real pain. Looking for the Hydrovane installation video. Stay safe!

Cheers Randy! Sometimes it’s super hard to find such a small leak hidden away in the bilges. Glad you enjoyed the video and appreciate the feedback.

Hi Nicole just discovered you channel so will be catching up-Atip for finding the source of water is to use a little food die at the spot your suspect,and see where it comes out. Just a quick question is there any particular why you changed your boat preferance the Beneteau looks like a great blue water boat. cheers Ian from Scotland

Awesome ! Well done Plumber Girl !!! I had a fresh water leak on my Jeanneau SO45 - turned out to be the hot water cylinder ! Took a while to find. Really enjoying your video's. Regards, John. Wellington, NZ.

Thank you so much John! Thos water leaks can be pretty hard to track down, at least the bilges got a good clean it! Hope you are doing well down under the long white cloud👍🏼

Another great video and becoming a big fan of your channel! Never a fun moment to find water where it shouldn’t be. Has Portugal opened up or are these posts delayed? Can you comment on your rigging, particularly which headsails have you been using most often? Also do you have a whisker pole in your kit? Fair winds!

Thanks for the feedback 🙏, With regards to the rigging, we have installed an inner forestay and dyneema running backs. We have two poles and alternate between Genoa and the smaller staysail or sometimes both poled out together when dead downwind! We seem to get much more use out of the smaller staysail as the Genoa is old and very stretched. We are still catching up to real-time with the vids. Cheers

Since it is of Portuguese and Norwegian descent :" what is the Portuguese city (in southern Portugal) that was an old Viking village?" I bet that you were not waiting for this... But it's true!
@SailingBeaver

Oo that’s a tough one.. I know there’s rumours of vikings going to Madeira, but in southern Portugal I have no idea. But this by far the most interesting question I’ve had in a while, and I would have to do some more research to find this mystery town😅

Sailing Beaver they went at least at BARCELONA! Another question: Why did the Portuguese name the Pacific Ocean, Pacific? Did you see, the oldest map, of planet wearth in lisbon?
@SailingBeaver
@SailingBeaver 3 жыл бұрын
Ahh so not in southern Portugal then? I guess they named it for the same reason us norwegians call it Stillehavet - the calm ocean

Sailing Beaver When they went from a place that is now San Diego(California) to Hawaii, it took more than 6 months! They had to remove leather from the sails to bake with salt water and eat, that's what they had to eat! It was PACÍFICO(pacific)And, they hit a reef, and stay THERE several years repairing the boat, some stayed, being the Portuguese the oldest community on this island, too, it must have been at that time that a Portuguese offered a small Portuguese guitar in exchange for the sympathy of locals, in Portugal that guitar called CAVAQUINHO (from MINHO) and is known there as UKELE. Another curiosity, visiting the island of Madeira, you can go visit the house where the navigator Portuguese Cristóvão Colombo was born. Is mother was portuguese and is father from Florence. The jerks from spain made a ADN test, and is a portuguese, as we allready always said. BUT, try to find were was the Viking village in Algarve!

If you like surf, Portugal have Waves too(30-50 meters) BUT, canary islands to Porrugal, in a storn day, THERE are also that too, In November 1991, in a rescue to a French sailor from the Vandee du Globe, who broke the mast, in a level 3-4 hurricane, we caught (during my military service in the Portuguese Navy) with waves of more than 30 meters... We almost went to the bottom,the damage to the ship was enormous, but we saved the Frenchman. It is no accident that the English call the Portuguese coast: the coast of death! In Açores, can be BIGGERS 50-60 meters! Portugal don't have a cost for SAILING! Well, except Algarve. Look the vídeo ir you like surf! Every years we have THAT, big Waves... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fNqfnpRlspvUaJs.html

could that be condensation?
@SailingBeaver

The thought did cross our mind but the weather was warm and we have installed a lot of insulation on the hull to prevent condensation. In the end it was the shower drain.
