Exploring the FlyByWire Airbus A320 in Microsoft Flight Simulator

I get emails or private messages quite often from people asking why the Airbus they have in Microsoft Flight Simulator doesn't match what they see in the various videos they see only in terms of functionality and features (such as the tablet, and high fidelity of systems simulation). I answer the questions in this video, and then take the FlyByWire A320 for a flight from Southend to Dusseldorf - explaining what I'm doing along the way.

Didnt know about the navigation systems all being based off the apollo systems. These side facts are always much appreciated.

Download the Dev version, the cockpit geometry is fixed in that build :)

Thanks Jonathan. Another great tutorial of the a320 FBW. Think I’ve watched 3 of these now on your channel but learn something new every time. Still learning when I get the time but the last flight I did in this plane I landed it and it got it submerged into the runway! I could just see the top half of the plane sticking out!

Great vid, very helpful just that you actually took off with no passengers, after you import the passenger and cargo info from the tablet you have to click the boarding button which is the one with two arrows, other than that very good

There's always something -- as I said - unless I record after 11pm at night there will be interruptions, which makes it almost impossible to focus. And of course anything I miss will get noticed ;)

Looking forward to watching this whole video. I have been trying to fly the A320 for a couple of weeks, but it’s just one thing after another that’s been frustrating me. I want to be as at-home in the A320 as I am in my C172, but I can see it’s going to be some time before I get there. I just want one good flight - is that too much to ask? 😂

Great video, maybe I will stray away from the PMDG 737 for a few hours to play with this FREE version, I've been tempted by the Fenix in the past, no idea how much "better" that is, but since this is FREE, well ... yeah, this is great. Thank you! (again)

I guess over Essen you might have been close our house. Approaching EDDL many aircrafts are quiet low when they cross our part of the city.

Highly instructive video - many thanks indeed. One point I am unclear on: I get why you set the altitude at 30k+ feet (to comply with the flight plan), and then reduced it later on in the flight to 3,000' (presumably because this is the alt indicated on the Navigraph ILS chart?). Not sure though why you made the subsequent reduction to 2,600? Once the glide slope was picked up, everything seemed to follow seamlessly, and I think you were at 3,000' when this happened. Can you clarify whether the reduction to 2,600 that you made was required, or simply a precaution? As I say, I found the video brilliant - have downloaded and will watch it several times before trying the same flight. I am transitioning (if that is the right word!) from GA to the FBW A32nx and am really enjoying the switch. Kind regards, Alasdair

On a 3 degree glideslope, 8 miles = 2500ft AGL. Without re-watching, I imagine the airfield was probably at 100ft altitude, which meant coming into the ILS feathers at 2600 ft means you will be *below* the glideslope - so it will capture in approach mode. Approach mode will not capture from above the glideslope.

Could you tell me which one of the I7 cpu you have (example; mine intel I7 8700k) Because you have the 3080 gpu and I have the 1080 ti and would like to know if you do have a bottleneck or it does work fine. Thanks.

I hardly touch the CPU running flight simulator. All of my videos have the hardware listed at the bottom of the notes.

No other violations apart from failing to run the T.0 Config test! ;)

As I said at the start - not an Airbus pilot - and I also missed a LOT of other tests out (which would turn it into an hour before we leave the ground and bore the pants off everybody).

You did park short of the indicated spot. That line is there for a reason... that is as far as the jetway can reach. I have noticed that when I pull close enough to the terminal, the jet way automatically extends to the plane. Great video, though I learned a few things about the FBW that I didn't know before. Thanks.😊

Great vid however when I get in my plane my batteries are on 0 volts it doesn't matter what I turn on or attach they just don't move?????

The batteries can be serviced through the tablet, I think? I'll have to go check this myself - could be you have failures switched on too.

I'm still a little confused about the constraint button on the MCP. When do we use this?

When you're in managed mode, the aircraft will obey flight plan constraints. Without checking, I believe the constraint button will override them, and command the aircraft to go straight for the speed/altitude you have selected.

@jonbeckett I did a little research in the Fly by Wire online documentation and that button makes the constraints appear on the ND. ....So say you wanted to see airports, you would select APRT to display those. It's optional info alongside the permanent data shown in PLAN, ARC, or ROSE NAV modes. Only one selection can be active at a time

@@RWalt-lp6ie Yes - of course! I'm thinking of the button on the Boeing - that overrides the flight plan :)
