This is absolutely fantastic. I’m from Jamaica. I have family in the US. Ive never experienced racism but I think white privilege is absolute crap. You can’t substantiate generational wealth to white privilege. It’s about hard work, how you carry yourself, your knowledge, your drive for success, your intuition and being innovative. Black and white can achieve both successes.

@brandwrld1623 You should check out Thomas Sowell. Funny watching two brown kids attending a university and one admitting her family is wealthy, telling a white kid from a poor background, struggling to pay her tuition how privileged she still is. Then they wonder why there is so much animosity towards that ideology. They've basically turned class privilege into a racial thing. As a white man, I grew up in a single parent household with a mother that was poor and abusive. I never got the benefit of generational wealth. I couldn't get scholarships for college and ended up learning a trade. After ten years I am close to making six figures, built up my credit, bought a house and am working on a retirement nest egg and white people like myself and that girl are not outliers. Again, in modern times, this is a class issue, period.

I criticize this debate because, despite the content, he inferred his claim through the discussion without reaching for a counterclaim and arguing the other size. That is a key element of a healthy debate, and even scientific research. You cannot go into a study or debate (as a mediator in his case) with the intention of proving one specific thing, it is a fallacy. In research in general, a meta analysis needs to be done in order to draw any kind of conclusions. You cannot draw only from one case study. I don’t know what kind of teacher he is, but I sure hope it doesn’t involve debate, science, or research.

"White privilege" is just the reverse side of racism. If certain groups are hurt by racism, other groups benefit from racism. It's that simple. The professor is literally saying racism in America doesn't exist. I refuse to believe he is that naive and stupid. I think he is very dishonest. Dr. Richards is hoping to be fired so he can get a 6-figure job on Fox News as "the professor that got fired for not being woke enough." White privilege is not having to deal with racist people as often. Those people are teachers, supervisors, military leaders, police, judges, bankers, etc. America was built on racism. Confederate States and people still hold many of those views as do political parties. Many racists are libertarian or Republican. We have Silver Shirts and other ideological movements based on racism. It’s a factor and everyone knows it. The goal for minorities is to overcome it. Most racists are highly insecure. That’s we they oppress others and uplift those they see themselves in. Bias and prejudice exist with all races. White people just happen to hold most of the power here in America. It’s actually just simple probability. All countries and societies have this bias.

I like to say "White Advantage" instead of privilege because white people either get pissed or give to whole "my grandparents came here with NOTHING and worked for everything they got" rant. The advantage is that being white (from any economic background) you get the benefit of doubt in situations in society where minorities don't get. A poor white person and a poor black person can commit the same crime with the same criminal record; the black person is getting a harsher sentence serving more time than the white person. If these two women walked in a room and just stood there, there are lots of different assumptions that would be made about these two women. Who are people gonna assume is more wealthy? Who grew up in a two parent household? Who would cops scold more in a traffic stop? Who would be accused of stealing in a store? It’s about what’s in the surface like what the young lady said. White people have systematic advantages and even if you are a poor white person you still have more advantages over a wealthy black person. Razear- NO. You do not understand. White privilege = white liberty.= Class=Systematic advantage that POC may not have=COLOR ISNT A FACTOR IN ACCESSING THINGS/treatment. It is not just about $$$ and that is where people do not understand. Does the dominant culture have to worry about police brutality? A longer sentence in jail while a white person could do the same crime and get little to no jail? Does a white person have to worry about walking down the street?? Many Black people do. How about being followed in the store because of a stereotype? How about not getting a job because of your name is Black-sounding(whatever does that)? How about being discriminated against because of color?? That is white privilege. A white person does not wake up thinking about so-called "white issues" they would have to deal with because of the color of their skin. It is a social benefit. America was made for Europeans to access wealth, but Blacks built the country.

It isn't mutually exclusive. You can classify the levels of privilege by race and the other things you mentioned. When all things are equal, you have more privilege if you're white. And sometimes, those things you mentioned don't even matter if you're not white. Yes white people are financially well off on average but that doesn’t prove that today they are treated better inherently because of their race. For example they cited white people getting more scholarships as if that proves white people are treated better. Doesn’t make sense.

The Prof is trying to make those black girls fine-tune their definition of white privilege. But they clearly have no idea what that entails, can't account for discrepancies, nor can they argue when provided with an opposing viewpoint. This clearly shows that just blaming "white privilege" without having any knowledge about the subject shows your clear lack of understanding of these issues.

These kids that are advocating for the existence of "white privilege" are so close. Some of what they're saying in regards to statistical differences are true, but they're trying to say that those differences are due only to race. The girl at the end even said that two parents in the home and a strong work ethic made the difference for her family, but she still thinks she's worse off, while the poor white girl didn't have both parents. They also talk about how much easier it is to get into college, when they're actually in class sitting there with their Apple watches, but somehow they have it so bad. Like the Professor said, they've learned the script and they don't know how to put it down.

You know that is what i was thinking with the frat boy. They kept talking about generational wealth and his parents didnt have that or they would have good to college. So they made them selves from the bottom and he had white privilege because they did but the girl that was the loudest parents became rich in NY and she is saying what she is saying without thinking. Couples who stay together can bring up a child in a healthy way no matter the race or color that child will have advantages The white privilege is that there are more white families that stick together than blacks (a lot has to do with the systems in place). But you can see it in the people they brought up there, take race out and the ones who do the best have a mom and dad that did alright for them selves. All you have to do is have black people stay together in a family and the next generation of black Americans will not have to fight against the white privilege. Also that girl talking about being seen as aggressive while being aggressive in how she speaks.... It blows my mind who people who dont want to be perceived in a way but act that way, where you would think if you want to be perceived in that way in staid.

I think the argument made by the black girls were poorly made, but, professor, you can't conflate white privilege with wealth privilege. We don't throw the concept of white privilege out of the window just because there is on epoor white person and one rich latina. That would be like if we said that men don't have male privilege in pakistan just because there are poor men in pakistan, and because there was a female prime minister. It's like saying that you can't say that men on average are taller than women because you know a girl who is 6'7. The micro doesn't refute the macro. If that latin girl submits a resume, all the data I've seen says that she will get far less compared to her white equal-even less with white people with actual merit and credentials. All of that despite the fact that she is rich. That's white privilege. Class issues cannot be conflated with race issues.

White privilege isn’t just financial or background. It’s about the SOCIAL benefits. For instance, if you’ve ever watched LIVE PD and noticed that a white male who is under the influence has so many chances to adhere to the officers orders but black males are taken down to the ground immediately, tased, pepper sprayed, and in some unfortunate situations, shot. Also, in a previous video where you all discussed Black aggression. That can also be discussed in this video. Black women who speak passionately about situations are seen as aggressive but white women can be seen as passionate lol. This is just my opinion and things I’ve noticed in society that helped shaped my views on white privilege

100%!! But in coming to sort of my own (still not fully educated) conclusion; wealth and finances are at the very base of white privilege. When slavery became illegal, the goal of the government after that was to place black people into an environment where they don’t get opportunities, where they would have no way to get to the position of white people. This was done with segregation, oppression and everything in between. So for a good chunk of history, from 1865 and so fourth, black Americans were segregated into poorer, less opportunistic environments. Basically places like what we nowadays call “the projects” or “the hood”. (I just wanna say I’m not implying it’s only black people here but it’s definitely the ugly stereotype) When you are raised in a place with no funding and no opportunities... you’re kind of forced into the struggle life of crime etc. That goes for ANY human being... if your survival needs aren’t being met then you can’t progress (get money). For example, you’re born into a poor family where no one went to college, got a good career or was able to make it “out”. If you’re black then to get out of that situation- you can try and get a job/ go to school- but then there’s the idea you won’t get hired because of your skin tone or where you came from. Same for college/ higher education. What else is there to do to make money to survive?? Illegal/ illicit stuff??? Our SYSTEM IS SET UP SO THOSE WHO START OUT WITH MONEY GET IT EASIER!!!!! And that’s just the tea. And think about the social connotations behind money. Money is almost equivalent to social status BUT when a black person is successful, people assume they came from the ground up. That notation is in so many rap songs and such. No matter what, black people consistently are born into America with disadvantageous positions because of history and there’s no denying that. A white person will still struggle being born into a position without wealth BUT they won’t have to live with a stigmatism around them. Wealth is a huge aspect because it’s been that way throughout history and only in the past 100 years or so are black people getting the education and opportunities they never had before and it’s amazing. But what the government did in America post-slavery was almost worst then slavery because they gave NOTHING to help the people who were slaves to get a stable foundation. They were homeless, often uneducated/ illiterate and oppressed. This lack of resources created a tyrannical society for black people that needs a lot more then just awareness to change.

America doesn't generalize as the young lady says. She does. And those like her. If one thing being a police officer in the past taught me was that black people will always claim victim status. Not all, mind you. Those that are successful in life will be like normal, respectful humans. Those people are with which I had very good relations. Even then, when they get around others of the same skin pigment, their behaviors change. I never care about your race. When I was on the battlefield in Afghanistan, you were my brother. Skin color did not count. I'd gladly give my life to make sure you kept yours. These young people are making up things do we can not heal from our past discrections as a country. There is not a culture on this Earth that has not participated in slavery, murder and allocation of land. I was once in Australia and took the time to spend an afternoon with an Aboriginal native. He gifted me a beautiful tribal painting of which I still hang on my wall in my living room. Their story is very similar to the one portrayed here. Theirs, however, was more sinister. As a combat veteran and visitor of 38 countries, my message would be to treat everyone like they are an equal, until they show you traits they are not. These kids do not know how good they have it here in the US.

Everyone did a pretty crap job of explaining white privilege. It’s not about socio economic status. It’s about implicit biases that impact a person’s pursuit for life, liberty, and happiness. White people have the advantage of not having to think about how the world defines them, because they’re defined on an individual bases. People of color, however, are defined in the collective. One Muslim goes on a shooting rampage, the entire group gets defined by his actions. One white guy goes on a shooting rampage, he’s a lone bad apple. One latinx person shoplifts from a store, all latinx shoppers get followed. One black person gets hostile with a cop, now that cop places his hand on his weapon for every black interaction after that. These things are not happening to white people. They have the privilege of entering every situation and encounter as a neutral subject who gets defined solely based on their actions. People of color carry the burden of all who came before them. That means we get our opportunities in spite of the system...and we are that much closer to losing what we’ve gained at the hands of an implicit bias.

White privilege is simply outnumbering the next race 3:1 (usa), so any negative white people do there are WAY more to convice people its not a race thing. Compared to when other races do something bad, they simply dont have the numbers to play change peoples perspective. And just like that "summer of love" set the perspective of colored people back a decade if not more.

Nonsense, if White privilege exists, why do East Asians, Jews, and Asian Indians have higher incomes than Whites? Why is it considered immoral for Whites to exercise exclusivity in their own countries, while other groups have the privilege of exclusivity that Whites can only dream of.

I think the problem many people have is the nomenclature. 'Priviledge' implies that you are elevated above others, that you have been given something. Realistically it removes obstacles that other people still have to overcome. It doesnt make anything better in your life, it unlocks doors, but doesn't help you get to or through them.

Hey I'm a college student at the University of Texas in Arlington. I feel like you can't talk about race without talking about slavery. Because White Americans in the 1700s enslaved Black Americans and created a socioeconomic wave with getting ahead by extorting and abusing Human Resources that was Black Folks. White people financially assumed the upper hand and socially assumed the upper hand by mental and physical abuse assuming power and caring it to generation after generation. White people have the Generational curse as the abusers and deny they have the upper hand. While still having the privilege to control the public perception/narrative for themselves and diverse ethnic cultures.

Black people want to just jump on the *white privilege* bandwagon with merely a superficial knowledge on the subject. Of course white privilege exists but not in the way these women are describing it. Also, some form of inward reflectance must be taken into account. Environmental factors, proper parenting, importance placed on education, mindset towards life, the friends group, & good influences all play a role... 1. Asians placed in the SAME high schools as white and black people regularly SCORE higher on SAT/ACT.. why is that? You can't blame lack of opportunities there... DEDICATION Jeremy Lin was the number #1 player in the high school basketball matches in California. During his senior year, Lin captained Palo Alto High School to a 32-1 record and upset the nationally ranked Mater Dei, 51-47, for the California state title. He was Player of the Year. Despite this he was discriminated in the NBA; facing many challenges and difficulties, but he never complained about it. He remained HUMBLE, even during "Linsanity" phase, he always thanked his team and the players; it was never about himself. 2. Indians dominate the US Spelling Bee for the past decade. Do you honestly believe it was their school teachers or schools that got them there? Hell no, they put in the HARD WORK and strong parental support. 3. US Open 2018, Naomi Osaka (mixed raced: half haiti- half japanese) was crowned champion infront of a large BOOING crowd. mainly due to Serena Williams' (black american) unnecessary angry antics on court where she called an umpire a racist, sexist thief because she didn't like a LEGAL call. But Naomi Osaka, never acted arrogant, ungrateful, or even complained. Instead she trained HARD and won the next open as well(australian open). Furthermore, after Naomi beat the crowd favourite Coco Gauff (black american) at US Open 2019, Naomi was extremely humble and gracious inviting Coco to speak in front of the crowd despite Coco losing the match. ATTITUDE and HUMILITY in life gets you places. 4.Of course, BLACK LIVES MATTER. There definitely have been instances where white cops have killed black youth. But the majority of cops are good people who tried to keep communities safe. Demonising a WHOLE group of people for a few incidents is not going to help ur cause. 5. On Feb 2017, Adam Purinton shot two Indian men, Srinivas Kuchibhotla and Alok Madasani, whom he had allegedly mistaken for Iranians, at a restaurant in Olathe, Kansas, killing Kuchibhotla. He reportedly yelled "get out of my country" and "terrorist" before firing. A third man, Ian Grillot, was wounded after he came to the two men's aid. After this incident, INSTEAD of protesting and shouting ALL WHITE PPL ARE RACIST, Alok (friend of guy who was killed) decided to tell his community to come together and held a vigil. Instead of COMPLAINING about the suffering, Indians focused on the good people like the HERO Ian Grillot & the Indian community gave him a check for $100,000.... 6. Bullying towards Asians is way higher than towards any other race in the US. 6. SO when black people think they are the MOST oppressed group in the US and any problems they may face in life is because of white ppl. that is simply FALSE

The problem with white privilege is not the debate over whether or not it exists. Even if it's true, it's wrong because it's wrong to judge by the group. Think of the danger there. Can we also condemn all young black men as criminals because they, as a group, have such a high rate of criminality? Prejudice is wrong. Stop doing it.

Acknowledging that white people in the US is not "judging" its Acknowledging that historically speaking white people have purposefully given themselves am advantage while simultaneously ensuring that minority communities are at a major disadvantage, we do not live in a vacuum, racist policies greatly affect minority communities today, we can start we back to the days of slavery and onward, the Chinese exclusion act, segregation, redlining and intentionqlly constructing freeways through minority communities, lynching and gassing of Mexicans. There so many more examples even in recent history. I know humans hate acknowledging their privilege but that's the reality of racist policies. As for your racist comment about black males (don't pretend it wasn't) there is truth to that and why do you think that is? Do they just have an inherent interest in criminal activities or could it maybe possibly be the black community has been purposefully sabatoged since the day of emancipation, more recently the flooding of narcotics into the black community which greatly affects poverty and crime rates amongst blacks today. I leave you with this quote "We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.” ~ John Ehrlichman, Assistant to the President for Domestic Affairs under President Richard Nixon

Speaking as an average white guy the last ten years I’ve personally gone as way far above and beyond to make sure I’m not doing anything in public or when dealing with anyone that could be perceived as offensive to women, LGBTQ+, any ethnicity, cats, puppies or anyone else with a pulse. I never acted like a jerk before and have always been accepting of everyone, but these days it feels like we (average white guys) have to walk on eggshells.

If interactions with police are your barometer for how society is acting, you seriously need to take a look at your view of the world. Police interactions should be extremely rare if the person is driving correctly, has a registered and insured car. In the old days it was a different story obviously, but body cams are everywhere now. So the police can't just pull you over for your skin color and not give you a reason. If you keep your ship tight, there should be no problems. If there are, you politely interact with them do as they ask until you reach the precinct. That's when you drop the hammer, ask for a lawyer and protest whatever happened. The strength of the country is our legal system, even as incredibly corrupt as it is. If you have a good lawyer or even a decent one with video evidence, there is little to nothing that can be done against you. Let alone if you truly were wronged, you can sue the city and get a boatload of money. Life for all people is about situational awareness. Nothing is more important than that, no matter what you look like. Those with the most information tend to succeed, those without don't. Get yourself informed...

Just because the Puerto Rican girl has money, white privilege just simple means to society that they are superior than any other group even if another group has more money. If that was a wealthy black kid sitting in the Puerto Rican girl's seat no one would secretly care about that because all they would see is a black person, and would silently still fill superior than the black person and would still be treated in some ways different.

White privilege is based on subconscious bias and stereotyping. The assumptions we make and resultant attitudes. The moment culture correlated with ethnic group there will be some sort of discrimination. But this isn’t a political issue. It’s a social issue that is tackled education, awarenesses and interracial romantic unions.

Degree of privilege depends on context and situational circumstances. It is not inherent across a spectrum because of skin color. Short, tall, rich, poor, male, female, black, white, smart, simple minded, athletic, awkward... all of those can serve to be a privilege or a detriment depending on the situation.

I would fire you for growing dreadlocks if you were white or black. If you are scared to call the cops you need to reevaluate where you live. White privilege is you may get a job because you are white. Black privilege is you may get a job because you are black. What is the privilege you get for being any race that all people get in that race? We all have walls to knock down to get to where we want to be. Complain about it if you want but knock them down.
