I love the combination of telling you that your feedback “sounds weird” while also accusing you of being unprofessional. I write a lot of emails for work. I also teach people who are new to the job market how to communicate in a work setting. I cannot think of an appropriate time to use the phrase “sounds weird” in a work related email.

That "you refuse to work with us (aka for us) so you are unprofessional" agency feels like those scenes on any to-model casting show where the (female!) host forces the teenage girl to pose in a tissue with strings (they call it bikini) with a grown stranger (aka the male model) in a intimate, naughty way - by saying that she can't be a model if she refuses to do those kinds of photo shoots and will be disqualified from the show.

Oh damn, a creator i follow (ex member of the church i grew up in) recently posted a version of "my husband and i are going here and we want to know if you (the viewer) would like to join koin us, only 25 spots available!" And it made NO SENSE to me. Now i get what she is doing and it is so sad! Thank you for posting this info!

I loved this video! I'm a freelancer, and the amount of bullshit some clients think they can pull is unreal. I'm fortunately in a luxury position, like you, where I can turn down work that isn't a good fit. This past year, while costs are going up everywhere and I haven't raised my rate since 2020, a client asked me to lower my rate. When I declined, they said "we thought you'd value consistent work." Bitch, bye! You're already getting one of my lowest rates.

I'm glad you brought up setting boundaries from a women's perspective. If the marketing team had been communicating with a man, I doubt they would attempt manipulation. I've had to set boundaries in the work place before and while I was belittled, my male coworker was already receiving the boundary I was asking for. I don't know how we got here as a society, but the amount of belittling aimed to women is a weird concept. As if we are only 50% worth respect.

I've been experiencing similar communication (although in a completely different setting) where the other person has been accusing me of many things I did not do and generally communicating in a very hostile way. I can't get out of this situation yet for legal reasons, and it has been very hard having to accept that I do not deserve to be treated this way, and as you say, that I am not "just too sensitive". It feels like a huge relief to hear that I am not alone in feeling this way, so thank you!

I’ve always thought trova trips seems SO expensive! Like £3-4000 is extortionate and when I look at the breakdown, location ect I think I could deffo do the same trip for a lot less if you did some serious planning (plus flights not included!). Oh that marketing agency story 😅 In my last job I worked in the team that did influencer cooperations. It was a smaller „sustainable“ brand that sort of praised itself on having ethical relationsships with its cooperation partners (you actually worked with them before). So while nothing too crazy happened there, some of the decisions from higher-up were still pretty unprofessional and the employees just had to go through with it. This industry is wild in terms of how companies and agencies treat content creators. Confirms for me once again that I no longer want to go into marketing lol

I've been dealing with a very rough situation at my own workplace that has had a lot of gaslighting and trying to manipulate me just to cut business corners. It's incredibly hard no matter where you work or what you do for a job. Proud of you for standing up for yourself!!! :) It's a good reminder for me as well, I'm neurodivergent and get taken advantage of easily. Perspectives from people you trust are a great way to handle things like this, though. I've been doing the same thing with my situation and it's the only reason I've realize it was a "situation" to begin with lol

Unless there was anything legally stopping me, I'd probably cc the client in one of the e-mails with the marketing firm. That would really shut them up. 🤷‍♀️ Really strange and inappropriate and manipulating behaviour from their side.

I used to work as influencer management and I got such a second-hand embarrassment from your story... It sounds like such a badly organized place. I can't even imagine allowing a situation where influencer is able to reply to a client if they aren't supposed to, I MEAN IT'S SO EASY NOT TO LET THIS HAPPEN. It's a pretty messy business in it's very nature, with clients changing their mind about the campaigns; with influencers pulling out, so we always needed to have a backup plan, then backup plan B, so the campaigns could go ahead. The idea of trying to BULLY the influencer into work they refused to do is making my blood freeze. It's a kind of job where one has to deal with a lot of diva behaviour (which you weren't displaying to be perfectly clear), so getting this worked up over a perfectly polite refusal is next level unprofessional, both from the company and from the employee.

First of all, congratulations on setting your professional boundaries & actually sharing them with the interested parties. There are people & corporations out here who are just out to use others. Also, my 10 year old son would have 'k***ed' for that sponsorship with PRIME 😂.

What kind of trip through Germany would even cost 3000$? Even with doing some acitvities, that amount could easily last you for a month-long trip, but I'm assuming they were not talking about a 4-week-trip. Like, what would you do to spend this amount of money in a 1-2 week trip??

"We've already confirmed you for phase two" - well you're an idiot then aren't you? Can you imagine if "yeah sounds good, send me the contract" WAS a contract? Like - in ANY field? Also, I'm taking your draft phrase of "if you would like to know why this didn't work, here are my reasons" as a brilliant way to give honest feedback and not feel like I'm being ‘rude' because it really isn't!
