To extend a 10x18 to 18x18 do existing footings need to be changed to anything “bigger”?
@JanetH.215 Жыл бұрын
Kind of surprised you didn't dig your post holes first or show actually digging them. That's hard work.

Good video for an “idea” it is not an instructional video as some of the comments imply. Thanks for taking your time and sharing info. If anyone has posted an instructional video or has a link please share. For me Steve… again thank you, I will check my local code and extend my deck!

In my county in Maryland, footing is subject to building inspection before initiating framing work. Another inspection is required once deck is finished. I did not hear anything about building inspection here. What am I missing?

I liked where you said 8' and 6' . Its square! 😂
@TheDinkybird9211 ай бұрын
He used trigonometry. In a right triangle, with the length of 6 on one side and 8 on the other, if it's a perfect square, the hypotenuse will be exactly 10. If it's anything more or less, you're not square

Is there a reason there is no 1/8" spacing between the boards? 🤔 To allow for drainage...

Is the reason you only dug 7-8 inches because you don't get a frost line?

My guess is that ledger board is already been pulled out of the wall, a single row of tapcons into what sounded pretty hollow when he drilled will not hold and tapcons have not much shear strength, Red head anchors are better, if you want to use tapcons they should be in pairs an inch from top and bottom and no less than 1 ft centers, better to over do it if your not using red heads.
@fritzybrothers3 жыл бұрын
The tap cons were placed just to hold the board up until the 4x4’s were put in place but thanks for the comment.
@doobswiggins99303 жыл бұрын
@@fritzybrothers Yeah sorry I thought i already corrected myself on that but i guess I never entered it, yes I jumped to a conclusion with out watching the rest of video first to see it was not a supporting board and it was held up by a separate beam, thanks for the video .

Love what your doing I want to extend my deck husband days would is to expensive but im going to still get quotes but im going to learn by myself to do it
@tacobelle69 Жыл бұрын
Did you do it yourself? I feel like its a super easy project. You can do it. For example Home Depot quoted like 7-15k to do our windows so we did them all by ourselves and it was so easy.

So are the 4x4s just sitting on top of the concrete you poured? Nothing actually anchoring them in?
@jonhall71883 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking. Surely they used an anchor bolt installed into the concrete with some hardware on top.
@FirstLove13 жыл бұрын
Did you put the post start in the concreate?
@fritzybrothersinc9653 жыл бұрын
After I dug the holes I created a 4 inch slab to put the post on. Although in the county I do most of my decks they only require to sledge the post in two inches. These post were higher and sledging them would have been an issue.

i'm really wondering if that's up to building code... but great work man...

Make sure you check your area but yes this is certainly up to building code where I reside. Thank you for subscribing George Lu.

Using the saw to trim the top of that post is almost the dumbest thing I've seen on youtube. That will get someone seriously hurt when a blade snaps at 5000 rpms. That alone makes me question the quality of work going into this. I don't want to be a negative Nancy, but I also don't want some do it yourselfer think it's a great idea and end up losing a limb or worse. You could also face legal action considering this being an educational video.
