The amazing thing about families out of America is that “extended” family are seen as very much apart of the immediate family. I grew up with my great grandmother, she helped raise me up until I moved to USA when I was 5 years old. I continued to carry a relationship with her as we would visit my country every other year. My first daughter was born and she thankfully got to meet her great-great grandmother and spend time with her for a couple of months while we were temporarily living with her. She passed away last year and left a huge void in my life. That’s how strong “extended” family is in other parts of the world. It’s truly a blessing to have a kinship with all of your family members.

I fully agree. Family, including extended family, is a blessing. My grandparents played a strong role in my life. It's hard to lose family members, but we have their love, their lessons, and our memories. :)

Fascinating lesson here. It's one I will have to watch again so I can work out who is who! 'Next of kin' is our closest relative i believe. My mother's side boast an Italian and Scottish heritage while my father's heritage is Scottish. I was closer to my mother's parents, who were wonderful. I rarely saw my father's mother. So seldom in fact that she was known as my Dad's mother. I have a sister,, brother-in-law, nephew and a great niece. I also have eight cousins. Sadly only one parent and one aunt and uncle remain. This lesson made me think of those have gone, which is important to do.

@@Englishwithjennifer Thank you! Yes, it does. My answer to the quiz, but I am not sure: 1. Father-in-law 2. Great-uncle 3. First cousin 4. Sister-in-law 5. Half brother 6. Second cousin 7. A blended family can include siblings. 8. People can be related by birth and by marriage.
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for trying the quiz! You got most of them right. :) 1. Who is your mother’s new husband? - No. Your stepfather. 2. Who is your grandmother’s brother? - Yes! Great-uncle or granduncle. 3. Who is your aunt’s son? - Yes. First cousin. 4. Who is your wife’s sister? - Yes. Sister-in-law. 5. Who is the son of your father and your stepmother? - Yes. Half brother. 6. Who is your great-uncle’s granddaughter? - Yes! Second cousin. You share a set of great-grandparents. 7. What’s a blended family? - Not quite. It's when two families become one. It's a second or third marriage for the parents. The kids are from previous marriages, so they become stepchildren, stepbrothers, and stepsisters. 8. Name two ways people can be related. - Correct! By birth (by blood) or by marriage.

Hello Jennifer ! First of all "YOU ARE OUTSTANDING" ! Secondly, I need to ask you, which one is correct: "Talent Thrive Consulting" or "Talent Thrives Consulting". Actually I am planning to get a firm registered and I do not want to change the name in future becz of minor reasons. Thus I want everything to be immaculate and thought of asking you😊
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the wonderful support. It's an original name. I suppose the second sounds better: Talent Thrives Consulting. You might also consider a participial adjective: Thriving Talent Consulting. That sounds even more natural. Just be sure you're not choosing a name that already exists. ;) Good luck!

Congrats on getting the name you wanted. I see a lot of variation. Companies use: consulting, consultancy, and consultants in the name. Take a look: www.consulting.com/top-consulting-firms AND www.forbes.com/best-management-consulting-firms/#396ec26d72d0 I think "consulting" and "consultants" are more common choices. The -ing refers to the act. The -ant refers to the person.

Hi Jennifer. I think that relations between relatives in modern societies are no longer as they're before. We don't have time to visit our relatives. For me, I haven't seen my aunts or uncles in ages and can't name some of my relatives even in my native language. Actually I don't care. I think that real relatives are not people who share blood with us but who are really dependable.
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing your honest thoughts. I agree that in our fast-paced world, we're more spread out and quite busy, which makes it hard to gather with extended family. I stay in touch with those who have been a part of my life in an important way. :) And I agree that some people aren't blood relatives, but in our hearts they're like family.
