Extending our Campervan Floor for MORE SPACE!

To maximise the floor space in our van conversion and to add more floor space, we devised a way to extend the floor space in our van build by building a floor step extension. WE insulate and extend our van floor at the front and onto the van side step and show you exactly how to do this.

I feel ya - dealing with 7/64th of an inch has me bookmarking too many conversion calculators. Glad you are finding the vids enjoyable and informative, it certainly is encouraging for us to carry on doing them ☺

Nice job on the floor but what you didn't consider is that to service the lower parts of the door, i.e. wire chain, bottom roller, you need to remove that factory black step. It only comes out one way and that is straight up. So since you have already done this my advice for you is pay special attention to the track under the step. Keep it clean and the nylon roller well greased. Cheers

Actually we have considered how to remove to van step. 🙃 We mention it briefly in the carpet section - you are right we don't be explain it. We'll have to remove the legs, which would mean dismantling 60% of the floor extension (not ideal, but a compromise). Another reason why we made the carpet removable and we were discussing recently, that the final flooring must still all access to that extension. But since it will not be the easiest job in to the world - maintaining the chain and wheel some extra would probably be wise ☺️

Is it not extended on the wrong side? So you have to open the door all the way to get in rather than halfway?

We extended the floor purposefully that way, since we have a couch going at the front. You are right that most people extend the floor the other way due to the door opening point however had we done so, we couldn't out the couch where it is which would have limited the floor space available to us 😉 Everything is the van build is a compromise, there's no right or wrong way as long as it's fictional to your needs 😎

Well the floor and the couch are modular so it is possible to dissmatle it - it won't be without some damage to the finishing touches but removing the legs of the extension would be a start.
