Making a Step Extension (More Storage!) | Transit Van Conversion E14

We extended the plywood flooring in our campervan over the step and this time we're going to frame around it to make a step extension with a bit of added storage space. Even though our van conversion is a jumbo, space is still at a premium and we want to be able to use as much as possible, even if it's only big enough for a pair of shoes (or, shoe, in Tim's case! 🤣).
We also took our second trip in our campervan to explore around Bowerman's Nose in Dartmoor. Building a van conversion is a long journey and we decided we wanted to take it out every now and then so we don't lose sight of why we're converting it in the first place, to be able to travel and explore. And it's nice to see it coming together each time and becoming a little more comfortable. Abi rated the comfort of this second night as 25/100, which is a big step up from 2/100 last time! 😅 One step at a time, it will be great when we've got a proper bed in!

Really enjoying your journey and the excellent video quality. You have a great balance between showing what your doing without literally watching paint dry, which is not an easy thing to balance, but you seem to nail it. Great work.

What a super result! Most people see a 15 minute video and figure this was an "afternoon" job. This small, detail work takes so much time. I figure about 8-10 hours in all? Looks great!

Good idea to have a break now and then. Van conversion burn out is real. Looking great so far 👍

Thanks very much! Yes it's very easy to get burnt out, we decided we'll take it out at various points along the conversion as a break,, and also to see how the comfort level is progressing! 🙂

Love your side step storage! Very impressive. 😆We're going to give this a go. Where did you get that brown mat from? 😍

Thanks! The matt was just a roll of natural coir matting we got on eBay and cut to the size we need, then stuck down with heavy duty velcro. Hasn't moved once which is great, and can take it up to shake it out. Although never actually done that yet 😃 this is the one we got: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254863791561

@@SelfBuiltStories Thanks for that! It looks so nice, we managed to build our side step storage thanks to you guys! It doesn't look as neat as yours but we gave it a go ;) I've been abit hesitant about ordering the Coir mat as I feel like if wer'e coming in the van barefoot it wouldn't feel nice, but I think were going for it! :D

@@lestravel Awesome! And it's not actually that bad to stand on bare foot (in our opinion!). It's not a super fluffy carpet experience but it's not uncomfortable either, doesn't feel sharp or anything :)
