A female character that are strong, supportive to the male mc and not being toxic? My god, she is perfect!

It was great watching Hemsworth kicking ass in a role he was made for. Watching the emasculation of Thor was something I’d just as soon completely forget and this definitely helped.

The actress who played ‘Nick’ was fantastic. That’s how you write a great female action hero!

Just watched both movies and have to agree: They are refreshing, message free action movies and dont try to be anything else. The female sidekick felt especially refreshing and i found myself rooting for her during her fights. They never made the mistake of her winning by strength against obviosly bigger and taller men as most modern movies do. Instead she is fast, nimble and skilled with her knife, making her a badass and believable CQB fighter. She gets thrown around by bigger opponents, beaten up and down and i never felt the urge to facepalm or role my eyes during her scenes. In my opinion she established herself as one of the badass strong female characters alongside Ripley, Sarah, Katness and so many others. No Rey trash. Her avenging Tyler during the first movie already kinda made me like rhis character but now she is part of the club.

Every action movie features Keanu, Chris Pratt (He’s a banger in The Terminal List), Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Cruise makes me hyped and interested. Thank God this sequel delivers

You know what, I think we really need more action films like Extraction and John Wick directed by stunt choreographers turned directors like Chad Stahelski and Sam Hargrave❤

The first Extraction film is back in the top 10 most popular Netflix titles because of this. That has to be a good indication to studio execs that this type of film not only has an audience, but has the potential for a longer shelf-life.

The 20 minute prison scene was absolutely brilliant!! Kudos to all involved in shooting this and all the stunt co-ordinators! We need more action flicks like this! The 3rd movie needs a theathrical release!

Definitely deserved a theatrical release, a movie like this needs to be watched with a huge crowd and popcorn flying everywhere.

The scene with Nick in the control room of the train was incredible! She fights these two guys, and she’s really struggling because they’re bigger than her. She’s challenged and has to work super-hard to overcome them, using blades and acrobatics to gain a small advantage. She doesn’t just overwhelm them because she’s a “strong female character”, she actually has to work and fight hard!

This actually has a good emotional undertone as well. Despite all his determination skill and strength, being powerless to fix the one thing you care about the most shows the most human aspect of being a father.

The prison riot scene was fantastic. And the former sister in law fighting alongside Rake was great. She wasn't crying or carrying on. She stayed close behind him, fought when needed, only called on him when she was in trouble and did what he told her to do. She trusted him yo get them through the shit. It was really a well written and pretty believable scenario.

Hemsworth is 100 percent convincing in these movies. I have a lot of respect for him and the crew. We need more.

one thing about 'Nik" the female actress here, Golshifteh is an Iranian actress, she was very famous and loved here until she ran away to America and she basically became public enemy number one, the government tried so hard to ruin her image they basically brought her family every week on tv like kidnapped hostages and forced them to say how much they hate their daughter not gonna lie at that time most of us even bought it and she became a very hated person in iran, it took a while for us to realise how brave she was for running away from our tyrannical government, living under permeant death threats and assassination plots how times change, now she is basically our real-life superhero she never stoped fighting for women right in iran i don't give a damn about an actor personal life or representation in a movie but its just hard to see her shine so beautiful in a movie like this and not feel proud and sad at the same time if you want an actual example of a strong woman look at this girl

I loved this. The characters actually get hurt and show the pain. Like drinker said the female character fights but gets over powered sometimes. And I agree. The prison scene wore me out.

Why is nobody talking about the camera transitions of this movie (and its predecessor)? They are amazing and keep the audience feeling they are part of the action! The way the camera "enters in the car" to capture the tension of actors in the car chase and then transitions over to outside "through the window glass" to focus on the bad guys chasing them... so many other very creative uses that kept me hooked to the movie!

It's so refreshing to see Chris Hemsworth in a role that isn't a joke for once. It's cool to see him kicking ass and taking names, finally!

I just watched it and wow, this movie doesn't screw around. You feel every punch and I like how Chris Hemsworth's character grows, becoming more than just a badass with guns but a man who cares for others.

What I love about Extraction is how much they get you to care about the secondary characters.

I watched this movie with my father, and when we first saw that insane, one-take, 20 minute action scene when they break the family out of prison, we both just looked at eachother and smiled. It's like the insane, violent, action activated our lizard brain. I'm glad you enjoyed this film as much as I did, Mr. Drinker.

Extraction 2 is worth the watch. Their cinematography on the action scenes is just crazy mind blowing. Feels like something out of the video game "Time Crisis" where we get so many perspectives on the actions. The first action scene never stop once to switch angles but kept you with the team all throughout the battles. Its just amazing how they were able to zoom in and out, running with Chris and go 360 degrees of the field. Also to see Chris in a more serious role is something different for once. We seen him so much in comedy roles that its time for him to get into more serious roles. He did such a great job at acting that I totally forgot that its Thor in this movie. Extraction 2 could have easily been in theaters and made millions but they brought it to home and gave us a badazz movie. I already love Extraction 1, now im loving Extraction 2 because they took action movies to a new level that broke the grounds. Who would have though action flicks still look so damn good. Must watch movie for sure.

It’s amazing that even though this was clearly an action movie, the scene at the end with his ex wife actually had me tearing up. Just getting the basics right and delivering compelling action made that simple story device about him being haunted by his son’s memory so powerful. Much more then a lot of the recent movies that are supposed to be emotionally charged did for me anyway. As a Dad that hit me right in the feels. Ironically, notice that this female lead is actually everything the fanatical woke crowd claims they want. Non English, brown, smart, dangerous, independent, (actually) brave, nurturing, protective and intelligent. But no coverage.

also can I just say as an Australian, how great it is to see an Aussie actor being able to portray a character in our native accent! Do you know how rare that bloody is? Seeing Hemsworth pushing a gun in someones face and telling them to f*ck off in full Aussie strine brought back fond childhood memories of camping trips in the outback with my old man. Great Movie!

I would love to see the extraction directors make a few Judge Dredd movies, bring back Karl Urban as well. Extraction 2 was an excellent follow up to the first film; but if I'm being honest I think the first was an overall superior film. Would had loved to see this film in theaters...

I so enjoyed watching Chris kick ass in this movie and I felt like I did serious cardio watching that prison break sequence. The reveal to his backstory was unexpectedly insightful and touching. Can't wait for the next instalment. Love these old school action, less CGI movies. Also, very glad Chris is doing this whilst still relatively young to make a series out of it. Kind of like how Keanu created the John Wick franchise, I think Chris has a serious hit on his hands. Comparatively, Taken was amazing, but Liam was much older when he started that and by the end, less believable.

Extraction 1 & 2, and The Terminal List, have been the biggest surprises. Glad to see both Chris thrive in these mature and realistic action movies. I hope the other Chris will eventually succeed in that too.

I love this movie. Rake looks awesome fighting, a very touching ending. Nik looks capable but not overly done, you root for her to win cause you see her struggle. Yaz's fight with the large Georgian woman is also satisfying, cause that woman looks like she can really throw around the smaller Yaz. This is the kind of movie I like to support. I wish it were on the cinema though.

I really loved the first one, part 2 was great as well. The first one (I watched both this past week) just was in my personal opinion the best action movie made in a long time.. It did everything perfect.

The flaming fist fight scene looked like something out of Doom

Ya Nik in this movie is a terrific example of actual female competency and representation- she is very obviously not as strong as her male assailants and she is forced to fight differently in hand to hand which is not a bad thing. As a gun fighter, which is more of an even playing field between the sexes, she is just as competent as her compatriots so there's that. But in close quarters she is ferocious, clawing for every bit of leverage, using agility, brutality, dirty tricks, (like knife drags,) and quick thinking/skills to get small advantages that turn the tide of the overwhelming odds against her. Every win for her is hard fought and she is very far from invincible which is openly displayed to the audience- so it is naturally compelling when she wins, especially when it is just barely had like in the train control room. Or, in so many words, she encounters real adversity and challenge which forces her to adapt and overcome- who knew that would be so entertaining! She's not meant to distract or outshine Tyler in any way but damn if she isn't a fine and complimentary companion to fight along side him in this film. Of course writing and choreographing women like this in films, (with intelligence and realism,) would require talent and forethought which is what makes them so rare and completely beyond the conceptual scope of most of the spiritually bankrupt big studios.

I saw the first one and was super surprised it didn't get a theatrical release. And as soon as I heard about this one I was alll over it like white on rice. I'm a huge movie goer, we probably see at least one or two movies a month at the cinema and usually paying top dollar for the good seats, and as you're all too aware, most of those movies have been underwhelming to say the least. I would have loved to see this on the big screen. Here's hoping more movies like this, John Wick, Sisu etc are on the cards!

There was a good balance between the leads where they helped each other out in a logical way.

I am a 46 year old woman that literary grew up with Arnold & Stallone & I am in particular a massive Rambo fan since the one-man-army appeals a lot to me. Unlike what woke Hollywood believes, some women DOES want masculine men in her movies! I also grew up with & loved the Indiana Jones films as well, Harrison Ford was my first celeb crush! Having said all that, guess what I'll be watching very soon? Extraction 1 & 2 & sure as hell NOT Indy 5! I know I'll be feeling much happier watching Chris as a one-man-army in 2 films rather than my first celeb crush being humiliated - again - by KK's Lucasfilm!

Oh Chris, you deserved so much better than what Marvel did to you! And to see you being a kickass hero, running, jumping and taking no prisoners puts a smile on my face!

The camera work and choreography in this movie is nuts - I don't even remember, if ever, I was last so thrilled by just simply good film making.

It was actually very satisfying watching Hemsworth play in a role that doesn't force him to act like an unserious buffoon every 5 min. This movie (and the first one) shows that he definitely has it in him to be one of the next great action stars ( like Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Cruise, Reeves, Willis etc.). I'm all for it.

I like how they did not pussyfoot about the prison break and just went straight in with hardly any preperation or explaination as to how he got there. Pacing was excellent throughout and any plotholes could be easily overlooked because 'shit blows up'. The amazing way the camera appeared to seamlessly follow the action inside and out was fantastic. It made me feel like I was really among the action (The camera just going inside, outside and around that first car chase was impressive).

Chris Hemsworth is a viable action star. Fingers crossed he gets more of these roles

Chris Hemsworth has proved to be not only a great actor himself, but also pull of the action hero role perfectly with the right script. If he decides to leave the Thor role anytime soon, God bles him cause he surely can hold his own without having a clown like Phase 4 Thor tainting his career.

Extraction is dang good. Simple. Heroic. I loved the setting being in India which was somewhat different. And having the boy in the mix really upped the stakes--great performance by him--bravo. There are many great performances even though there wasn't a lot of down time for dialog. And the film making was outstanding! The following, hand-held shots were just incredible... they always seemed to have the perfect camera angle to capture the action and immerse the viewer. I haven't seen Extraction 2 yet but it is on my short list. So glad they are still making movies like this.

I think the character of Tyler Rake could be as synonymous with Chris Hemsworth as Ethan Hunt is to Tom Cruise. If the Extraction team can keep delivering on this scale I'll happily show up to watch them all.

Extraction and the John Wick saga, made me feel like a kid again. When I used to watch Schwarzenegger's movies in owe, just pure hapiness. I'm super glad they greenlit a 3rd extraction movie.

*I just watched it and I was mindblown! Cant remember the last time I had this much fun/ anxiety watching so much extreme action. LOVE IT!*

I absolutely loved the train scene where Nik took on those 2 bad guys because she was overpowered and even got stabbed but managed to use her skill and quickness to kill them. It never felt like she was completely safe or had plot armor, it felt like she could get seriously hurt in a bunch of scenes which is so much better then the women killing machines with no weaknesses that Hollywood loves to portray.

What I love about the Extraction films are the super long takes without any cuts. It makes you feel like you're there. It must be a choreographing nightmare.

Extraction 2 was hella fun. That train vs helicopters fight was how I would expect The Punisher to be.

Extraction 1 & 2 have become my favorite action movies since John Wick. CAN'T thank you enough for this recommend Drinker! We need to get Hemsworth out of Marvel like ASAP and put him more into movies like this because the guy has an amazing gritty action hero presence.

I felt some of the action was implausible even for action movie standards, and the family drama was predictable, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the movie. And Chris Hemsworth's accent rocks! He played the part perfectly, and was supported by an excellent rest of the cast. And the producers made no secret of the fact that they want to make more movies with that ending. I hope we get more!

One thing I really liked was that him rescuing her sister didn't patch things up between him and his wife. You get the sense that they've managed to find closure, but they are still very much done. That's a bit of human realism that even our favorite 80's movies usually sacrificed in service of a happy ending. (Looking at you, Holly Gennaro!) Though to be fair, 18-year-old me probably wouldn't have appreciated it like 53-year-old me does.

The cinematography was the real champ. They managed to restrain themselves to POV and side sweepers just for the most crucial action pieces, instead of inducing vertigo in the audience or relying on choppy, bouncy camera swaps to make things look "more intense". A+ and one for the archives.

I like how they gave Nic more action this time around. In the first movie it was cool when you realized she wasn't just a pretty face in a dress when she put on the plate carrier and opened fire with a SCAR heavy. This time around she's more involved in the action and it added to the movie. Can't wait to see Extraction 3.

This is the kind of role I believe men like Hemsworth belong in. Tough, and action packed. As much as I don’t really like gory, bloody violence, I applaud any movie studios who decide to not shy away from action movies like this. It’s nice to see a movie that isn’t fluffy and safe. It’s gritty and cold. While that’s not my cup of tea, I’m glad to see something different. Great video as always Drinker.

Another thing worth mentioning is that the body armour worked. People were getting shot multiple times, especially with handguns, and getting back up. I've lost count of the movies where body armour is either invulnerable or just there to look cool.

Camera work was incredible. That one shot when the nagazi are storming the hotel and the cameraman has to track and shoot the stairwell. Masterpiece of a shot. Even if it was a late release, i would 100% watch the extraction's in theatre again.

Just watched it, made me remember all the amazing work arnie has done in the past. That's a great sign for chris, hes amazing in this movie, these were the roles he was born to do just like arnie was

Extraordinarily I watched the first Extraction with my dad only 2 nights ago and loved it. The sheer amount of preparation that went into the “one take” action scenes is unbelievable. What it reminds me of is the sheer care, effort, love and attention that went into the car chase scenes of The Bourne Identity and, more specifically, The Bourne Supremacy. Anyway, I can’t wait to watch Extraction 2 and you’ve reinforced that desire. I can’t wait for Hollywood to pick up on this!

25 yrs ago this would have been a surefire summer blockbuster. GREAT action flick with superb characters. Nik is a throwback to legit bad ass gals who can actually hang with the boys in a believable way. Bravo 👏

this was a great action flick, but i think i liked the first one better, this one had few moments that were a bit too ''fast and furious - ish'' aka super unrealistic... never the less it was super enjoyable it's nice to see chris in a role that respects him

Chris Hemsworth and Henry Cavill deserve to be much more of super stars than they are. Hemsworth is popular as Thor. But he needs more movies like this. And Cavill should be the most wanted actor in Hollywood.

I love watching this film and I actually rewatched it considering that it's fun to watch compare to other films nowadays, thanks for giving it an honest and in depth review that it truly deserves.

It doesn't really happen to me that often anymore, by I was at the edge of my seat cheering on Rake. Especially that brilliant prison break scene, and his arm was fire and still pummeling people with it. Amazing.

The Russo's know how to produce an action film. I appreciated the "bad"guys they were given enough backstory to make them understandable, even a little sympathetic at first. There was some depth to this film it made it worth every minute of viewing it.

I agree with all your points! Both movies of this series have been exactly what we needed for the action genre and Hemsworth just nails the role so well. Tyler and Nik have a great chemistry in how they work together, he is very much the hammer and she is the scalpel with the movie fully displaying the times for both to shine rather than downplaying the brutal bulldozer of a man that Tyler can be. Movies like this, and series like The Terminal List are a glimmer of hope that all is not lost when it comes to action entertainment.

An action movie with the spirit of the 80's & 90's but with modern filming techniques and keeping the fugly cgi effects to a minimum thanks to the great cinematography. I already loved the second part as much as the first, can't wait for the third.

Those long scenes in extraction 2 are masterfully done, combined with impressive choreography and seeing every intense set piece play out in a single breath hold was amazing to watch, absolutely loved the movie!

Yeah, I actually really liked how Nik has to use her much larger opponents weight against them and it doesn't always work and she gets her butt kicked when outmatched BUT she doesn't give up, that's what makes her a hero. Great movie, just like a burger like you said.

It's nice to see Chris trying new things, Tyler Rake is quite different from his previous roles, more human and moody, and he does a great job with the role. Look forward to watching the sequel.

Just watched both with my mum and we loved it and I loved how they did his vulnerability side to him as you can see how does want to cry in scenes where he is meant to be vulnerable but he holds back on his tears to stay strong for the kid in the first film and how in the second film they don’t have the female soldier beat men twice her size but rather cripple them then strike

That scene of him taking down a Bell 412 with a m60 is freeking epic!

I like the way this movie was done. The action was so gritty but it wasn’t that crazy fast paced quick cut action. It was all one continuous shot and it was slow n slick..beautifully done.

Nik was awesome as a character, im totally down if she ever gets her own backstory movie

Getting to see Hemsworth _actually_ fight is everything I wanted in the Thor movies and though Marvel did give us that, it was given very *rarely* between actual well choregraphed fight scenes and just nonsense CGI crap. This was great and I love you showing that scene where he's just beating the fuck out of everyone with a riot shield and then the Molotov comes in out of nowhere. Easily my favorite scene with maybe the helicopter scene matching it. I loved how that thing came down like a videogame boss fight. Shoot at it a bit, initial explosion showing that it's been damaged, and then watch it hit the ground. It was fucking awesome.

That one dude who was killed in the leg-press machine ... I watched that a few times, haha. Yeah, the long-take action sequences are really impressive. I can't imagine how much work was put into choreographing those scenes.

I like that this is one of the few movies that depict ballistic armor realistically. You see people getting hit in the plates, knocked back and then continue fighting. I loved the fight in the stairwell that degraded to two armored people frantically magdumping eachother trying to hit a critical shot.

Hemsworth is a good action guy. Got the build and screen presence. Black hat was good too

I've have grown to endure and love Hemsworths films outside of playing Thor. I was in physical therapy learning to walk again and the institution allowed us to have a few hours to watch films and the first Extraction was one of them. I freaking love the film. I recently watched Extraction 2 and loved it once more. Thanks for addressing how brutal it is and sometimes is necessary and written and done correctly for the benefit of the story and entertainment value. There is still hope for true action films and stars willing to push the motive.

If I've learned anything it's that stuntmen can absolutely make the transition to feature film maker. Hopefully we see more of this gold in the future.
