I’m so glad you are ok!, much of my family was displaced but kept on working. My son also works for BCSO. I watched the struggle. Some of my friends are still trying to get things worked out. 2 of my kids and much and a brother are there the rest of my family is close by. I visit a lot. My daughter just moved from the beach to Lynn Haven, my brother is there too. Every time I go down 390 I can’t even orient things look so different. Glad you and your babies are ok. My brother stayed I. His home in North Shore and they really thought they were going to lose their lives. It blew the bricks off their house. I can’t imagine what you all went through.

We had a condo in Panama City Beach, I remember when I was little back in 2004, Ivan came through. We decided not to leave and stay in the condo since it was hurricane proof instead of getting stuck in evacuation traffic during a Cat 5. The most eerie thing about being stuck in that was that the wind was so strong. It forced its way inside of the building and you could hear it in the hallways, the most eerie sound to this day.

Ay, fellow/former resident of the shithole, if your not there anymore, that's good, hurricane Michael tore the city up and it went down hill real quick, trying to find a affordable place didn't exist, almost every insurance company left and ran with the money or just went bank rupt, thousands got scammed out of their money (my family was apart of the scammed) and quite a bit of the money meant to fix our city was embezzled away.

Maybe not a hurricane but I was outdoors in the middle of the forest and away from shelter and pretty sunny for hours when somehow a severe hail storm just came suddenly out of nowhere. I had to run half a hour back to my house. I got hit by large rocks of ice constantly and on the head alot. Moral of the story is to try to check the weather reports before taking a day hike.

I’m a routine summertime visitor of the Orlando area, grandparents, sister, and aunt, uncle, and cousin lived there, and I have seen some pretty well kept mobile homes in and around that area, compared to the tweaker encampments that are most trailer parks here in Texas, makes me think it’s more about the lifestyle and climate and finding a way to be near the beaches in a state that’s a major tourist destination even if there are a few risks. Obviously in CA, we know a lot of people beach-bum and sleep out on the beach at night, and with the seismic activity there, there has to be a risk of Tsunamis and rarely, typhoons, but at least with hurricanes, you have weeks in advance to prepare/evacuate if you live in the effected area.

@@paulinekelly3966 Paulinebin fairness Scotland has its fair share of gales that can reach 80 to 100 mph each year so I don't really include that. Indeed my husband is based up there with the Navy and has experienced th first hand. What I'm referring to is the rest of the country, I live on the South West Coast and the press and people get almost hysterical about very mediocre weather in comparison.

The Dummyblondes think it's all a matter of perspective and preparedness. Portugal just got hit by Hurricane Leslie that downgraded to tropical storm as it made landfall, winds reached 175km/h (100mph+) and it sure felt like the end of the world - so I can't even begin to imagine what a Category 4 would be. I also remember being caught by storm Gertrude a couple of years ago in NW Scotland (Ullapool) and it felt worse than Leslie, and for much longer

Trees with lots of foliage and branches can snap or be uprooted, but that depends on how strong/weak the roots are. A bending palm absorbs energy. Some native species in hurricane prone areas will shed foliage quickly to reduce resistance. www.greeningaustralia.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/RESEARCH_Yasi_TreeReport_NewFormat.pdf Interesting stuff.
