I have had these deployed in large places like summer camps, just run some coax and put an antenna on the roof, and you can go almost anywhere. They are TANKS!

The DuraFon SIP model gave me similar results regarding range and also options. (It's battery had a plastic cover over the terminals and totally fooled me too!🤣)

I still own a phone from 30 years ago that could have 25km (15miles) and sometimes more between base station and the phone. Pre cellphone era these were used on big farms I guess. I used it to have a phone with at all times in an era there were no cellphones yet :) I was the man back then :)

Dude, you have a 50,000 sq. ft. house? That's huge!!! Even if you misspoke and your house is 5k sq. ft. it's still huge. The IT business must be going quite well.

Do they have a sip based phone for pbx? Can they be assigned extensions from the pbx?

We use an earlier EnGenius to provide phone coverage on s caravan park that has no cell coverage. The resort manager can walk with the phone to nearly anywhere and still answer calls. Second handset useful for the handyman on the same park. We use an external antenna for maximum coverage, as the office is an older building with very thick stone walls. Recommended from practical experience.

That must be what our land line as a kid was based on 900mhz. Because it worked insane distances. Every bit of 800-1000 feet. And this is in the middle of no where we could walk 1000 feet away ontop of a hill and line of sight see the house still.

I would be interested to see a test with an external 900MHz antenna on a roof. I bet you'd get pretty crazy range.

How does that compare with a 'normal' DECT phone?

A system like that could be used on smaller k-12 schools for the IT support and janitors. Perhaps a system with a few handsets and cable headsets could be used as a diy Intercom for school theater/musicals and events....

I wonder if it would have been as effective back 20 years ago when 900mhz phones were all you could get. The fact that everything has moved to higher frequencies has reduced the amount of interference.

Can there be multiple bases? So 1 handset can be used in a larger area.....

Think that would require you to use a DECT system, as that kind of handover is done on digital systems.

No one portatil transmitters go more than 2 km in cities. For more range it is necessary a high external antena.

Think how loud the phone would have to ring if you lost it 800 feet away and were paging to find it. :-)

25,000 sq ft? I hope it is better than that. PiR^2 says that is only ~90ft of range. The Amazon link says 100,000 sq which ~180ft of range which is much better. Maybe 25,000 sq ft is assuming walls and other attenuating obstructions. The real life test shows much better performance.
