Egbert, this film was made in 1955. I served aboard Hanna in 1970-71. There were A-3’s aboard then & they had no problems taking off or landing.

USS Ranger is CV-61. CV-16 is USS Lexington. This footage is shot aboard USS Hancock CVA-19. Keep up the great work.

This can`t be from 1955, Hancock didn`t have an angled deck then. This is more like 1960.

Saw several A-3s getting punched off around 1:25 but, sure as hell, didn't see them land! Wonder how tose whales got on board in the first place; they probably had to be hoisted and I don't think they had too many carrier deployments before they were restricted to land-based ops only?? And any pilot who would even attempt an arrested landing in an A-3 would deserve hazardous duty pay, before his court-martial!

Forrestal class CVS had whales....all 4 of my cruises on Forestal and Independence had whales...KA-3..
