Incredible video Greg. I loved all the spontaneous things too, especially the view out the window! I thought when it started, no way I will watch an hour, but I didn't even pause it. And I have never watched another of your videos (I will now!) . But I do try to play this one. Very hard! I also would love a video with even more technical hints to practice. Please do it! I agree the middle must be "fast" (ie Chopin's tempo) and many do not do it. I have one other thought on that middle being "long". I think it needs to feel long enough so that you "forget" the beginning, that it might somehow be possible that it can resolve without returning to the minor... but no, of course it's coming back and even more than the first time (fff!). I think you get this in your playing. So thank you for this video!

Besides the similarity of ending of this etude with the ending of ballade no one, the octave techniques in this etude also appeared in the second theme climax of this ballade. it's impressive! It really proves that by mastering Chopin etudes, one probably will have no technical difficulty in other pieces by Chopin.

The melody in B major sings beautifully in your playing! I think this melody is the perfect example when people say the techniques Chopin chose to put in his etudes are a necessity to serve the music. This melody just doesn’t “sound right” to me if it isn’t in octaves (e.g. single notes).

A brilliant tutorial. But, for me, his anger is more intensely personal than, say, anger against the muscovites. 'Angry' is a good word here! Ready for when you do the etudes nouvelles - as you've promised (yes and sonata #1!!!) - for a native Englishman the word is "anti - seedent" [short-short - long-short]. Your comments on tempi hits the nail every time.
