I have been posting this every time you bring up Suzuka 1990, hopefully some day you acknowledge it because we need to get rid of this Mandela fact in F1. Ever since they started racing in Suzuka in 1987, the pole position was on the left side. If you don't believe me watch the three starts before '90. Senna had poles there before yet didn't find it necessary to ask for them to change them. He did here and they said no. But it was not like Balestre changed it just to favor Prost. They just kept it where it was. And what I find annoying is how Senna's full blown tantrum is just brushed aside. The man rammed into his rival full speed without any intention of braking, endangering his life. If Senna's wheel came loose and hit Prost's helmet he'd be dead instantly. Schumacher gets lambasted, and rightfully so, for doing similar things in '94 and '97. But at least his crashes were at safer speed where they didn't endanger the life of the other driver. What he did was a downright despicable move. But that is somehow brushed aside as Senna getting his revenge for '89. The truth is there was no good guy and bad guy in this story. Both guys had their good and bad moments but they brought the best and worst out of each other.

I didn’t read all of that but yes I do think they moved the grid spots one race as a conspiracy against senna I could be wrong though

Prost initiated the crash in 89, Senna basically did a Verstappen in 90 where it wasn't quite as flagrant as Prosts' very intentional crash in 89, but by putting both cars into an impossible situation it was up to Prost to not hit Senna. Senna's dive wouldn't have worked in a dozen years but he knew what the score was. Watching the 89 and 90 Suzuka incidents back to back is pretty eye opening. Prost literally spears him in 89, while in 90 Prost turns in on an out of control Senna that never would have stopped in time to corner.

Yes and no. No one is arguing that Senna's move in 1990 wasn't dangerous. Many were disgusted by his action, and when looked at the incident alone without context, yes. However, there is context that can't be ignored, and that is why many understood his action. Senna was robbed in 1989 for doing the right thing and taking the eacape road; that's what it's for. 1990 wasn't just revenge against Prost, but the whole of FISA and Balestre for their bias and unfairness.

Max/Lewis is a great comp for Senna/Prost because you have one who lives a philanthropic playboy lifestyle while the other would be the most prolific serial killer in their countries history if it wasn’t for racing. One has to be on the cover of a magazine every month while the other would have 50 bodies under their kitchen floorboards if it weren’t for racing.

I think the comparison between Alonso and Prost is so interesting, because the difference between them is simple: Alonso is classically handsome, and Prost is not. That goes a long way to coloring his actions with negativity, even in context of his rivalry with Senna. Were they on a level playing field in the one area Prost can’t improve himself, we might see their story very differently.

Love the podcast and listen to every episode. As a kid when F1 was on regular TV I was a Prost fan - I didn't know anything of his personality, I just liked the fact he was a great driver who racked up wins without drawing so much of the attention. I think he deserved a fairer shake here than he got. Also the two most important moments of the story - I mean, I couldn't even tell what actually happened, which kinda ruined the storytelling. And there was a lot of nuance to each. And frankly Prost wasn't necessarily in the wrong on both of them when you go through all the details. But the conclusion here is "yeah, maybe but we don't like him so whatever" It was a fun podcast as usual but I think you kinda let down Prost on this one.

I don't think whoever wrote the script did justice to Prost. He was presented as an antagonist in the entire podcast, just talking about his low points and not mentioning any of his many great drives or the genius he was in setting up cars and always focusing more on race pace rather than poles. As someone who has watched all races from 1980s onwards, this is not a true and just depiction of the great driver he was. They did not even mention the fact that with the current points system he would have been a 6 times WDC. P.S. I still think Senna had more raw speed and was a quicker driver. I'd urge everyone to actually go and watch all races from the past and build their own opinions on drivers from the past rather than taking in all the information catered by media outlets which might not always be completely accurate.

Ever since they did the Senna podcasts they have been portraying Prost as the villain Because their main source of knowledge came from a documentary that had the input of the Senna family, that delibaretly portrayed Prost as the villain. 1990 Suzuka is most eggregious example, but the whole f1 community gets the story wrong. Ever since they started racing in Suzuka in 1987 the pole position was on the right side. Senna had poles there before yet didn't find it necessary to ask for them to change them. He did here and they said no. But it was not like Belestre changed it just to favor Prost. They just kept it where it was. Agree here. In fact Prost might be quite opposite person than presented here, making peace with his former prime foe Senna, and did it truthfully, before his tragic crash. Prost carried Senna's coffin, he deserves to be recognised in simple human terms for all that. And as f1 driver Prost is multiple world champion, and quite humble in my opinion taking all the legacy he carries

These guys just hate Alain for no reason, as much as I like the podcast I try to avoid the f1 episodes because they will shit on anyone because their “rich guys who are friends with their dads” and not people of talent, plus the writers don’t know jack shit about F1, case in point when they call Senna’s Williams a Bennaton Williams which is wrong and is downright disrespectful…
