Love the podcast but you guys missed out on one crucial piece of information regarding hulk to Audi: Andreas seidl who’s now at Audi and worked with Nico at Le Mans in 2015 when he won with Porsche. Additionally, Mercedes may not be getting Newey given Allison’s recent promotion and contract extension for a number of years combined with Allison’s irritation in 2014 when he was at Ferrari and newey was speculated to move to Ferrari

The takes here on Lando are horrible. Saying McLaren needs a revamp - along with Red Bull and Ferrari, what team is on a better trajectory at the moment? They have totally turned their performance around the last 8 months. Saying something about not helping Lando’s popularity - the Driver of the Day vote which is a popularity contest is always Lando if he finishes in the top 4. I didn’t understand anything these guys were saying about him. I maintain Lando sticking with a team that is on a positive trajectory, built around him is his best bet. I see no reason why he can’t win a lot with McLaren moving forward.

McLaren is my team, and Lando is in my top 3 of favourite drivers, but….. McLaren have made a jump back from the big hill they fell down. They are no closer to winning a race than they were last year and don’t seem to be making any progress after their jump mid season last season. I want them to be at the top but they aren’t. And Lando definitely seems frustrated, he’s not won a race, and not looked close to one since Russia 2021

@@AlexVangeenRacing I can understand that. I think they're more or less where they ended last year relative to Red Bull, which when you consider Red Bull didn't develop last year's car at all and focused on 2024, keeping that gap fairly neutral is a pretty good achievement. Plus consolidating a position ahead of Aston and Merc and being very very close with Ferrari is positive. Super hopeful for the in season development to close the gap some to Red Bull and make a more consistent second best car that can fight Ferrari for 2nd in the championship all year. I'm optimistic about chances to get a win this year or next, but recognize a 2026 reset is going to be huge.

There are a lot of new and interesting sciences out there on aerodynamics that can be and may be applied to F1 development. Artificial Neural Networks can be used for the floor sensors to better understand the real-life loads and movements on the floor and its structure. There are also Kalman filtering techniques to simplify the modeling of load estimation. These are applied to helicopter and wind turbine blades to analyze non-axial flows and impact on the blades. Mercedes does have issues with their tools and closing the loop between CFD, WT, and Track Testing, and it is easy to see why they can be left behind technology-wise if they stand still and believe their tools are good enough. Based on what they say in their post-race debriefs, they seem to be doing development and investigations the "old fashioned" way, and manually 😅.

First of all thank you everybody at Missed Apex. Mr Van Jeensie, you've inspired me. You're looking trim! I'm a Brands Hatch fan. Saw Lauda win a F! race there plus Mansell's first f1 win, and Damon Hills first ever ff1600 win. Brands was a cycle ride from me as a child of south London. Bring back Crystal Palace Circuit!

Audi have proven they will have a much better 5 year plan than Alpine. But it is a 5 year plan and needs experienced good drivers to help build the car. Sainz is the best available option for their plan, then probably an Albon or Ocon - good not great drivers entering the start of the prime of their careers but not really being chased by a top team as a number one driver.

22:10 really disagree with this point. Especially the comparison to a Project Manager! Adrian Newey is not a project manager. If you remember what Mark was saying, he said he set certain targets for certain components e.g. gearbox casing, as part of the process of designing the car concept i.e. he would need a component to be a certain way to fit an aero concept he was developing. I highly doubt the development of these cars has a traditional PM, these teams will be highly technically driven and fast moving. Adrian Newey is driven by technical challenges...

I would hate to see Ferrari breaking the cost cap due to all the chalk Adrian Newey will need in the design team.

Antonia Rankin has gained my admiration and respect. She has become a force against Spanners' thinking, and he has paid attention to this transition.

Russell had a better car though. Telemetry data showed Kubica was faster in corners and Russell would make it up at straights so that’s one thing. The second thing is that Kubica was given older and sometimes faulty parts (famous floor that barely held together) and when his was given equal parts, like a front wing in Japan, Claire Williams, the worst F1 principal in history would have taken it from him and give to Russell. No wonder when she was finally and belatedly gone, Williams went on an upward trajectory. Don’t forget Kubica scored the only point for Williams by overtaking Russell. But I’m a fan of Russell, he was the third Lewis Hamilton teammate (after Button, Rosberg and Russell) who showed how overrated Lewis Hamilton is (far from the GOAT as he thinks of himself)
