It’s a simple formula. Take the base model of a nameplate, sharpen the chassis, and remove weight where possible. When the base model is the 911, it reveals magic. The 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera T is one of the least expensive versions of the iconic rear-engine sports car. And it is also one of the most satisfying to drive…on the road. If track days are part of your Porsche world, this isn’t the car for you. Otherwise, it is absolutely king.

Love your enthusiasm Robin and you're pretty spot on imo. Have had my T now for a couple of months and it is a complete blast and yes I do have the 7MT. It's about the overall experience not just about sheer speed and I think it hits that sweet spot dead on. Sometimes less is more.

Sadly the Boxster and Cayman T were discontinued. The Carrera T though is awesome, and I bought one - picking it up in a couple weeks.

Robin. Solid review. Here’s the rub….Porsche has gotten to the point where they won’t even take your order unless you spec at least $30k in options. So, someone wanting the truly base car will have a very long wait - if they get a car at all.

Totally. A dealer told me the base is very rare. They get very few allocations for a base Carrera because margin is thin so Porsche is not keen to make them. The same applies to this Carrera T. Definitely more GT3s are made than the base or the T. Porsche and dealers don't want cars with low or no options. They want the sports cars 718s and 911s to be highly optioned from the factory because this will create a healthy future second hand market for them when people trade in for another sports car. I am in Canada. Two dealers asked for $35k minimum options so I went with another one that didn't require a minimum amount and got an allocation with $11k worth of options. ADM is illegal here I believe.

Totally fair. But this is the way Porsche spec'd the car for reviewers like me to try. Ironic, I suppose.

You mean your dealer won't take your order. I doubt the Porsche mothership cares that much about how many options and what they cost, on your build. They are making a healthy profit on every 992 generation 911 made. That said, buying a Carrera with zero options wouldn't be very livable. I guess if you just wanted a car to turn into some sort of track rat, and couldn't/wouldn't get a GT3 Cup car, a base might be solid starting point.

Love my 992 T. I have a fairly basic build (manual, no RAS, no front-axie lift, but added Bose, power folding mirror, heated steering wheel, a couple color/trim options or choices). Less is more, as they say. Because I bought 3 Porsches from the same dealer prior, no minimum option cost, no ADM, just MSRP, and I picked it up at PEC in Atlanta. which is well worth it, if you've not owned a modern 911 before, for the track and skidpad time you get. And the other amenities from the visit. Plus it was fun to drive it back through Tail of the Dragon on an early Saturday morning before all the RAV4s, minivans and rice rockets show up.

Hey Robin! love the video. What are your thoughts on the T vs GTS? I have the opportunity to get either one, and am pretty torn. I do plan on daily driving the car and I would consider myself a very aggressive driver. Any input would help!

Thank you very much for the compliment! Full disclosure, I have not driven the 992 generation GTS. I've driven the S and the GT3 and this T, of course. That said, the GTS will likely feel a touch faster and otherwise offer similar driving dynamics. But I would bet the T feels a bit better through the corners. It is, after all, roughly 80 pounds lighter than the GTS (man vs. man) and has PTV, PASM Sport suspension, sport chrono, etc. all as standard. I also like its subtle styling tweaks compared to the base Carrera, not to mention the rear seat delete. I'm sure the GTS will feel fast and incredibly fun. And you'd probably be happy in either one. But I would take the T. Hope that helps!

😮Where is everyone online getting their pricing from - this thing starts at $126,550 - you check a couple of boxes and you’re right next to the cost of the “S”… far less value than previous version and borderline not worth it if you are forced to add options by dealers 😢

My price came from the window sticker that Porsche handed me. In terms of value for money, it all depends on your priorities.

I own two of the new 911 T 982’s and they are very susceptible to the tire psi setting. The psi on the drivers door frame is the MAXIMUM psi setting for the highest listed total weight in the car. In the manual there is also a “comfort PSI” setting Suggested. And you can select the comfort psi setting for the display so it will show plus or minus from this comfort psi settings rather than from the full weight load psi settings on the door frame. The difference in the ride quality and noise is huge- at the lower psi settings the car feels very different on the road. These 20/21” wheels don’t leave much rubber between the wheel and the road and the psi makes a very large difference in the feel of the car on the road. This is the type of problem with these reviewers that borrow a car for a few hours - don’t read the manual -and really don’t know the car at all. I own two of these 911 T’s and I keep both at the comfort psi settings and the difference is huge. This is even true for my 23’ Panamera. At full psi it rides like a truck and at comfort settings it is smooth and sedan quality ride. The reason reviewers complain about the gt3 rise is the due to the psi settings as well - drop to the comfort psi and the gt3 rides much more comfortably - but these one hour reviewers never bother to set the psi at different levels -

I tested the car as it was given to me from Porsche, you're correct that I did not, and generally do not, change tire pressure for every different test that I run. But I am confused about your comment as I did not complain about the ride in this car or the GT3 for that matter. Rather just stated my opinion on how the suspension works overall in a variety of conditions. Yes, lowering tire pressures would reduce the firmness of the ride a bit. But it would still be stiff, thanks to the spring rates, damper tune, and the minimal sidewall height you have to work worth, not to mention the anti-roll bars. Furthermore, dropping the tire pressure also reduces sharpness in the handling and adds a small lag in both front and rear end response to your inputs. And I would much rather have an athletic, sharp handling Porsche 911 Carrera T than a plush riding one. If you prefer it at the "comfort psi," great. But please do not assume that I tested the car the way I did out of a lack of time or understanding.

You likely never read the manual - psi is actually a function of the weight the car is carrying - per the manual on all 911’s. when I take my cars into Porsche dealers they almost always pump the tires up to some ridiculous psi level / almost always more than what is on the door for maximum psi in fact. Tire PSI sets the primary and first suspension level on a car - and easily adjustable. As a reviewer making sure the tire psi is set to some level for the weight carried by a car is absolutely necessary to review a vehicle.

For clarity's sake, I did not receive this car from a dealership, rather from Porsche North America directly. And they carefully check the car over and put everything in the car's preferred settings for a reviewer's test drive, including tire pressure, before handing me the keys.

So, if I opt for PDK in Carrera T. Does it ruins the purpose of the T?
@viewsonvehicles
@viewsonvehicles 9 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say that, no. It's still lighter despite the heavier wheels, suspension, and exhaust. And you still get the sharper handling over the base Carrera. It's just not quite the same driving experience, as the manual deliveries an extra layer of engagement.

Much- and hotly-debated question (I myself spent a lot of time deciding). PDK has many great features that enhance the car-however… it does seem that the T is best paired with MT and that this is what Porsche intended for the car (witness that MT isn’t available on the base car, and PDK is what is typically paired on the high-end GT cars to take advantage of the fast shifting/track work). I would’ve argued with my own statement a few months ago. Ultimately, get what you want-there’s no “right decision,” just an informed decision.

Nothing says to the world you want a 911, but can't afford one with power, like buying a base Carrera or T. I just can't swallow $170K (CAN) for a car with 376hp (with a few needed options). You can get a Jaguar F type R, BMW 850i, a widebody Hellcat Challenger, or Mustang GT500 for $30K less. Or nearly a AMG sl63 for this price. FAR more car and enjoyment for the money.

If straight line performance is your top priority, Porsche is never the least expensive way to get there. But if you want to enjoy a nice road twisting through a forest or canyon, then a Porsche is hard to beat. And this Porsche 911 Carrera T does it better than almost anything.
