To see an elephant of this size put herself in reverse and extend her leg to Lek is simply incredible. The bond between Faa Mai and Lek is beautiful to see.

No one should "own" an elephant. Perhaps a caretaker but never an owner. I would say these elephants own this lady. She is THEIR pet.

Here is a great article from ten years ago that highlights a few honors Lek got, including being invited to Washington by Hillary Clinton (who, btw, has a passion for elephant conservation) to be honored as one of six Women Heroes of Conservation. OMG wasnt sure why Faa Mai was reversing down to the river until she lifted her leg to capture Lek. She is obsessed with Lek and what an amazing tribute to their relationship. Absolutely beautiful they all seem to surround Lek to protect her 😎🐘🐘

I love the way she gently walks backward and lifts her leg to accomodare Lek and all the sidestepping. What a sense of humour. They all want a piece of Lek. This is too beautiful thrse gentle loving giants. Bless them all and the whole sanctuary. 🙏💜🙏💙🙏❤🐘🐘🐘😍😍😍

Omg, Faa Mai is the silliest elephant ever. I just laugh the while time her & Lek or Darrick are together. All the elephants are worried about food but Faa Mai is worried up Lek.

It's amazing to see how terrible careful and gentle they are with Lek. They seem to have a good understanding of the fragility of a human being in comparison to them. It is also amazing how some of them seem to complain when Fai Mai keeps Lek all to herself, not wanting to share her with the others. The way she takes Lek by the hand and guides her to where she wants her to go astonishes me. What a blessing and grand privilege also!

Dizzie Chef You’re exactly right; Faa Mai is very possessive of Lek. She only lets Thong Ae spend time with her, but as you can see at 5:32, Faa Mai took her back after a few minutes, lol. Lek has also said that Faa Mai tucks her under her like she’d do if she had a baby. Faa Mai was the first elephant born at ENP and Lek spent a lot of time with her, so I think Faa Mai also sees her as a parent/nanny figure.

the elephants even though they are large animals they are extremely gentle and sensitive caring creatures and you see the unconditional love they show with their human friends ❤
