Was getting root rot till I switched to fabric. It allowed my soil to get dry and saved my plant from overwatering issue. Now my cannibas plants are growing beautifully. Soil dries more even then in regular plastic pots

I put my fabric buckets in a boot tray that I got at Lowes for around $10. So far I'm really impressed by fabric buckets. They also work well with watering spikes or "olla" type irrigation.

i have a weird hoa and i can't have anything on the ground to catch the water from my grow bags so i developed a semi self-wicking system to prevent moisture & nutrient loss from my plants. i have discovered aluminum foil dutch oven liners. they go into the bottom of my bags filled with coco coir with a pvc pipe exposed at the top. i don't need to worry about watering during the throes of ridiculous heat waves. i made the watering pipes tall enough that there is no bending over now and my coco coir doesn't become hydrophobic when the heat gets extreme.

The avocado tree appears to be in perlite only (or at least a high percentage of perlite). As perlite is so light weight, do you find it provides adequate anchorage for the tree? Are the trees hydroponic also? Thanks

So many Utube videos say use non-woven landscape fabric. The trouble is knowing which one - there are so many options. Could you please enlighten me as to what exactly should use. Any issues with mosquitos? We have terrible mosquitos once it gets hot and I worry that the tray under the bags system would attract them. Looking to do something similar on a really small scale (maybe the kiddie pool set up) on my deck.

I have a dwarf lemon tree in I think is a 10 gal grow pot I got a lime tree and was wondering if same size would work. the lemon tree blooms great when I bring it out but not when I take it out do have to get bigger sizes ?

I have a lemon tree that is planted in a very large plastic pot. I live in Las Vegas. Would the lemon tree do better in a cloth pot? I’m concerned the tree can get root bound. It struggles already without being root bound. I just repotted it this winter.

Because structural root engineering takes place first two years along with temporary Tap Root production which commonly by third year starts producing lateral roots . Never grow trees expected to provide a 50-year or more Problem free service life in a container for more than two years regardless if pot fabric bag or some other new titillating invention. In fact best method is transforming back into bare root transplant which allows pruning out any deflected or circling roots as everything should be growing radially outbound away from tree.

Hi, Thanks for all of the useful info. I THINK I love grow-bags too? but maybe not the way I’ve used them! Here’s my situation followed by my question - I really hope you can help! Location: Zone 6 a in a garden courtyard, full sun, not much protection, overlooking Lake Huron. What I’ve done: I had four 6 foot, Star Magnolia trees planted in bottomless wood boxes 34” X 34” X 3ft high to gain instant height. Boxes are lined with 1” foam insulation and a X X large grow bag that I snipped holes into the bottom for faster drainage + to promote roots joining earth at ground level. Ideally, I would like to leave them in these boxes for ever. So far: The trees have made it through a colder than usual winter. There are furry buds are all over. Question: was I lucky? Will the trees become stressed as they grow bigger? Will the roots find their way to the earth below? OR, should I demolish my gorgeous boxes, which anchor my courtyard and pergola to save the trees? I must confess I have been writing my hands over this. *I got the idea from Bunny Guinness - not her fault! She gardens in the UK, which has much milder winters. Thank you in advance! the only downside is the size/form of fabric pots. from 5 gallon upwards they are more wide than high which is for most plants not the best. i understand that you can't just make them higher because of the volume/weicht of the soil, they would bent or even fäll over. beside that i am a fan of fabric pots:)

Why don’t your 30 gallon trees grow algae on top of perlite?

The roots will sew into the bags though so not ideal for trees.

Advantages of growth bag: 1) Made of environment friendly non woven fabric, allow roots breathable and healthier. 2) Booster better roots aeration and access to oxygen, resulting in a vigorous plant with more flowers and fruits. 3) No-strap water design prevent over watering of plants. 4) Keep roots warmer in winter and cooler in the summer 5) Sturdy handle straps easier transportation. 6) Decrease risk of transplant shock.

The downside to greenhouse vegetable gardening be it in water or in the dirt is always the same. If the electricity goes away... so do the plants.

Advice from a 10yrs' grow bag manufacturer: please do water more.
