Hi, welcome to my channel! My name is Vasil, and I am restoring my 1974 Columbia 45 sailboat. In this episode I will be fabricating a stainless steel bracket for my outboard motor bracket. This is a good example of sailboat runaway projects, they take on a life of their own! Please let me know what you think of the design in the comment section.

Interesting solution. I guess it wasn't possible to get it closer to the stern? The bracket looks good. Have you looked into getting a harness for moving up the mast? You might be able to get the bracket on using a harness hooked to the halyard. You would need another person winching you up and down. It would be easier than getting on the dinghy and doing it that way. Or, you can get the ladder done first and use it to install the bracket.

Thank you for the kind words! Unfortunately it was not possible to get that bracket any lower without adding additional drop. The stern of this Columbia is very high, which seems to be a design favored by William Tripp (the designer). I do not have a mast harness yet, will certainly need on very shortly. Harnessing down would certainly give me more stability. At the moment, it looks like I'm going back in the dingy 😒 for another bumpy install... Hopefully all my math was correct!

Hi, double check the two loosening screws on the side of the bracket. They keep the bracket from unlocking when you are underway. Loosen them to adjust hight, then tighten them once you have the motor in the position that you want it in. Hope that helps!
