My guide to dressing in the classic and timeless British style! In this video I share the elements that go into the classic British fashion style, and also the ways in which you can incorporate elements of the classic British style into your wardrobe.
This style is influenced by the inclement weather, country and hunting attire, prominent sports, and the general culture of Britain. In this video I also share with you some iconic British fashion garments. Garments that when you wear them, they immediately evoke this fashion style!
Make sure you watch to the end, where I have included a short list of iconic British brands that evoke this style of dressing. Hopefully this list will further help you in exploring this fashion style.
Having a preppy fashion sense myself, I have always grouped preppy fashion in to three main "vibes" - New England/ North-East US, Southern US, and then this classic British style of dressing, so in this video I wanted to do a deeper dive into what makes up the classic British style. I hope you enjoy!

this is super interesting to watch as a brit from the group you describe (even though i dress vintage personally I'm the black sheep of my friend group) just one thing though: The key to classic (posh) british style believe it or not is to be scruffy and to not care what anyone thinks. If you look too tidy you'll look like you're trying too hard and get the side-eye from those people with country houses. I think classic british style - and I mean classic going back to the 1920s even - is about impeccable tailoring and money spent on top quality material to last you your whole life while being as shabby as possible. You don't want your shoes to look too new or your hair too tidy. minimal makeup, maybe some simple stud earrings and lungs full of fresh air. Mud and dog/horse snot and a good scarf are your best accessories. There is a brand called Joules here who does the yellow mac and breton top thing which is yeah *a* british style but it's more modern middle-class cornwall while i think the look you seem to be aiming for for is classic country house. (also gilet is pronouned 'jee-lay' with the j like the french 'je' which is totally not obvious from the spelling).

I'm so glad I found your channel. I've always had a hard time finding someone on KZfaq that has my style. Preppy style is fairly easy to find on KZfaq, but I'm looking to add that Kate Middleton feel into my look and so far, you're the only one doing it. Thanks so much for sharing, I'm loving these videos!

Aww thank you so much Kelley!! ❤️ That feedback is so fantastic to hear! I know exactly what you mean about trying to find others with a more 'elevated' preppy style, which is something I am striving to achieve. I am hoping that this channel will become a lovely community where we can all share our love for this style of classic fashion! xx

We used to call it "The Sloane Ranger Look" - and yes, I do have a Barbour - I live in country Australia. In the early 80's a book called "The Official Sloane Ranger Handbook" by Ann Barr and Peter York - it is the English Preppy style book.

Oooh the Sloane Ranger look - I love that! It was hard for me to pin-point what to call this style, so I went for "classic British fashion", but now I know about the Sloane Ranger look I will be able to look into it even more! I will definitely have to get my hands on "The Official Sloane Ranger Handbook." It sounds like the British version of "The Official Preppy Handbook" that was released in the 80s in the United States. Thank you so much for sharing Anne!! xx 💕❤️

Oh gosh you are so right about the Harrod’s bag...such a touristy thing to buy! For the classic jackets, I sometimes find J. Crew (even though not a British co.) has some good countryside looks. They have trenches from time to time and quilted green jackets with gold detailing. Really enjoyed watching this video 💕

I love Hunter. I also love navy color anything! So I have a pair of Navy tall boots in Glossy, bought from Nordstrom’s. To me, they run big. About 2 sizes big. But I recently bought a Hunter ankle height boot in baby blue(bought 2nd hand) and it seems to fit to size. I love Burberry, but do not have a trench. My fav trench is a Navy blue one that I got from Forever 21. The quality is on point and I think it was $20. I can’t remember if it was 2nd hand. I do have a Burberry wool toggle coat though that I love. I bought it 2nd hand and I wish I could find a liner for it. I bought a Navy(of course), Burberry quilted Brit jacket that I love, from Bloomies. I found a 2nd hand white one last year. Love them. I love Harrod’s! I’ve bought them 2nd hand here online. Interestingly enough, I bought a beautiful Burberry wallet from Harrods years ago and it was cheaper to buy it from their website and ship it here to the US. I swear I was British in SEVERAL of my prior lives.

I would say my red hunter boots are on the larger size, but because I wear quite thick socks with them they fit well! I had always thought in my future I would love to buy a Burberry trench (and who knows, maybe I still might) but I'm actually perfectly happy with my Jack Wills one. I think the quality is great and was at least 1/10th of the price!

I’m also British, my tastes are different to the last comment. Blazers play a big part, styled with just above the knee skirts, pleated midi skirts, button up white blouses, ballet flats, loafers, heeled pumps, structured handbags, roll neck cashmere sweaters. Obviously hunter boots and a Barbour for the country, and tweeds.

“Crazy horse girl style” but what if you were born there?!?! 😆 There’s no such thing as too much equestrian wear. It’s funny I’m American and I wouldn’t be caught dead in cowboy boots but I wear hunter boots and riding boots whenever I can. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Edited to add: Apps like Mercari always have hunter boots in every color for almost new and way lower than the asking price. It saves on the wallet and the environment. I get a lot of J Crew stuff there, too. You could actually do an entire video on satchel bags and brands that make them, alone. My favorite (that I don’t own yet) is the Mulberry Amberley in black, oxblood or the saddle colored one. 🤤 Also Gillet is pronounced like gee-lay with the g sounding like the French j in “bonjour” ❤️ Someone whose channel is centered on preppy style that actually posts on a regular basis is SO overdue. Glad to have you and look forward to more videos.

Hunter boots have dropped quality enormously, real English countryside people almost don't wear them, now it's considered just an international fashion brand. You can spot posers because they wear them :-) and don't get me to start with those awful colours they make the boots, but again they're a fashion brand now so it makes sense, even though the 'classic British style' will not be it anymore. Same with a red Barbour.
