Great video. I think we forget the most important component in any shooting activity. The shooter. We have a young guy in my club over here in the UK who has the one and only RimX's I've ever seen. They are incredibly expensive here. He had it custom built with what looks like a scaffold pole for a barrel and a very expensive chass. It cost him thousands. He won the first two competitions he tried. Then along came one of our "older" members with a 50/60+ year old BSA martini henry single shot target rifle. The kid with the RimX consistently comes second (sometimes third or worse) to the old timer with the BSA. in 50- and 100-meter bench rest comps. The old timer can sure shoot. Doesn't matter how much you pour into a gun if your shooting fundamentals aren't right you won't win. Love your work. Looking forward to the next one.

loved those BSA's my Dad had an old one ( non Target version) and I used it round the farm for years, it was beautifully accurate

You might consider cleaning the suppressor because they do collect carbon over time after about every three hundred bullets

There gets a stage where a CZ is no longer a CZ imo. And the cost of custom builds is beyond many of us so I have to ask what is the point? My 457 groups well enough to a hundred metres with all ammo brands, including none lead ( it is used for pesting and club ) And I agree, the shooter is the biggest factor. Guess that old maxim "a fool and his money" is true.
@EagleEyeShooting
@EagleEyeShooting Жыл бұрын
@Jon, a rifle is only a tool and that tool is only as good as it's user. When you asked "what's the point?" The point is to enjoy this hobby. Some of us are involved competitivly in NRL22, PRS or Benchrest. This tool we are using for this sport at some point becomes inadequate to compete at the top level, when YOU accuire the skills. If you feel your rifle will perform with the best, then I highly encourage you to join practicescore and sign up for a local 100m Benchrest, NRL22 match. As the saying goes, "You don't know what you don't know". Complaining about how expensive these custom builds are is like complaining how expensive a pro golfer's club set is....

Consistent with my experiences with Rimfire. I shot NRA smallbore Silhouette and Rimfire PRS for years. I found that all rifles are picky for ammo, and when changing ammo, it takes about 10 rounds for the new ammo to re-foul the barrel with it's own dirt... so to speak. I also found Rimfires do NOT like clean bores. In fact, I did NOT clean my rimfires (match ammo only) until end of season, or about 4000 rounds, and then it would take about 50 rounds to get them properly fouled again. I shot mostly CZ (452 back then), and I never saw much for tuners in the open classes until the 2010's. If you're on a budget, go stock CZ, find the ammo it likes best, and use that leftover $$ NOT spent on a Vudu22 to shoot 1000's of rounds. One upgrade you didn't consider, I always put a Timney trigger on my competition rifles, a lot of times the only upgrade I did. That consistent trigger pull helped immensely. A+ Video, thanks.
@EagleEyeShooting
@EagleEyeShooting Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your expirence and agree. Yes, I left the trigger upgrade out of this because it can be viewed as improving the shooters ability to shoot more consistently vs the rifle. Also sets the base line to learn trigger control first before jumping to a 10oz trigger and develop bad habits.

As someone who hunts as well as range shoots a rifle that achieves cold bore + point of aim = point of impact and then goes on to shoot a ~ 0.7 MOA or less group including the cold bore is a shooter, no question. That lack of cold bore deviation is vitally important as a hunter. Congratulations on a series of informative and well thought out videos.

I think a lot of people these days are just addicted to blowing money on accessorizing. I somewhat understand doing so if a person is competing and there is money on the line, but most guys just love to spend that money, regardless if they get results or not. I don't think most even look at cost / benefit analysis. I don't mind spending 3 or 4x what a stock rifle costs IF I get 3-4x the results. I can't justify that kind of cost to shoot a .050 or .100 smaller group, but then again I'm not a competitive shooter either. I'm enjoying the channel and honesty. Found you a couple days ago and subbed. Take care.

Love my 457. I have the pro varmint model and it shoots way better than I can. I screwed up at the beginning of the PRS season and put myself in production division. Shot the match, took 2nd, was happy. Then I reread the rules the next day. Immediately contacted our MD and told him nope, put me in open division. My glass/rifle cost exceeded the cost limit. (Ran a Athlon midas tac scope, by msrp it put me $41 above the limit.) So I decided screw it, stay in open and bought a KRG Bravo stock for it. lol (Cheaper than new glass) Only thing I need to do with it is get the Area 419 rail for the scope so I can move it forward a bit more. The want to do, new trigger. Other than that I'm just going to run it. It shoots amazing with sk match rifle ammo. I use rimfire PRS as training for centerfire PRS.

Recently subscribed...Great content and straight shooter. I have a CZ that had the 'cracking' you observed with the borescope in your video - CZ 455/457 Build series | Initial Accuracy - The cracking runs from muzzle end inside about 2" down . The rifle tosses fliers with every type of ammo I tried. I was shooting factory class at my local club, but this barrel put the stop to that. Not sure If I want to chance buying another CZ barrel or just put a 'real' barrel on it and shoot unlimited class. Depressing.

Thank-you Robbo. Any factory rifle will of course have the possibility sub par quality and accuracy. Even with prefit barrels theirs this possibility. I wanted to thank you very much for your video. I am especially interested in your opinions of different ammunition and the mechanics of equipment. I am an accuracy "nut" that is a bit on the frugal side meaning I don't realize the same success as competition shooters. The question I'm constantly asking myself is where do I draw the satisfaction line in equipment and components based on investment; that is where your opinions aid me greatly.
