Great work. I am surprice that you don't have problems with 10 round magazines. The problem is showing with 10 rounds only, rifle run just fine with 5 round ones. Usually after barrel change the bullet is pushing high in the chamber which cause FTF. The cure is change the foots angle on magazine follower . By changing the angle the bulet isn't push that high - the angle isn't so stiff so no FTF. Another little trick of centering the lip /ramp plate- it has to be screw down with bolt closed. I have 455 with this problems and after fixing this the rifle is running like a tank.
@EagleEyeShooting
@EagleEyeShooting Жыл бұрын
Any FTF issues are usually poor headspacing. The geometry of our custom fitted barrels are essentially the same as factory minus the grub screw relief cuts. I also add a polished chamfer on the chamber to aid in feeding. No issues with factory set 10 round mags

This is really interesting: I got a new bike last year and the aero seatpost kept slipping (over an inch per hour on the bike: I cranked it down that I've just about stripped out the bolt, but what solved it was shimming it with not one but *2* beer cans. In short, that slop is what causes movement. Now that I've got it shimmed it hasn't moved *in months* . My point is, I don't think it needs to be interference fit, just trued and matched to a larger diameter barrel to remove that slop. Then, you wouldn't need to press the barrel out because it's not interference fit, but I bet you'd still increase the accuracy significantly!
@wilfdarr
@wilfdarr 10 ай бұрын
Regarding the above, I didn't know you guarantee 0.3 or better. In that case, I understand why you'd go with interference fit, for a few reason. Great build, great video!

I use dial bore gauges over snap gauges when I can. They are far better for that type of measuring. Expensive but worth the cost.
@EagleEyeShooting
@EagleEyeShooting Жыл бұрын
I agree, but theirs always a better tool someone will recommend. I can say, well just use a CMM. But realistically, it's just a demonstration and refrence. The precision ground reamer and bushing verified at .710 ensures the bore dia is set to .710
@BillyWillicker
@BillyWillicker Жыл бұрын
@@EagleEyeShooting My intent of my comment was just point out a faster, more visual method of measuring, not to discount your methods. The results speak for themselves, regardless of the tools used. By the way, I can't accurately measure tenths with snap gauges, it's why I use the bore gauges. Maybe if I used the snap gauges more often I would be better with them.
@rectifycustomguns2142
@rectifycustomguns2142 Жыл бұрын
While I have not kept track, I am sure I have not done the number of builds you have I have not seen the variation in roundness and taper you have in the CZ actions. I am using a bore gauge like that used to measure engine cylinders and other items when they are being honed. In the 0.709" range I don't feel like I'm able to get as accurate a reading with the telescoping gauge. Your reamer setup looks interesting, I have been using a less complex system to true the tenon bore and action face but it has produced good results I would agree that the large cuts in factory and aftermarket barrels would seem to create a bendable area right at the chamber when the set screws are torqued. Any taper or clearance fit between the barrel tenon and the action adds stress to the assembled action/barrel. Thanks for sharing your process.

A lot of KZfaqs have commented on the great work Kenny has done. I’m not disputing that at all. Nor am I disputing the accuracy claims because I haven’t had Cz out to shoot yet. The weather has been bad, my tract scope hasn’t arrived, and I sent it off to get cerakoted when I got it. However, just wanted to say a few things. First the wait time for the rifle was pretty spot on to what they said, which was impressive, my experience with anything 7 months out, there’s always some unforeseen delay. Heck, cerakoting in 2 weeks got delayed 6 weeks. I asked to have the chassis cerakoted, they didn’t do it because they weren’t set up yet, you can order them from mdt that way. Not sure why you wouldn’t if your setup wasn’t going to be ready (did get a call a few weeks later saying they’d do it now). Kenny didn’t call before making my rifle to ask me about anything, just got the I’m done get me your FFL. Not exactly the KZfaqrs experience. Didn’t talk about what chambering he’s using and why, didn’t ask if I wanted a 25” barrel. Would have been nice to get a logo engraved. Now the other issue. The bolt is so gritty and stuck I had to used my whole hand on the bolt to get it to open and close. I had to use polishing compound then sat watching tv while I opened and closed the bolt 1000 times before I could do it with 2 fingers. But it begs the question how he shot 20-30 5 shot groups and didn’t notice and sent it out that way. Who knows, maybe he didn’t personally shoot the groups. Hopefully the winter weather will give me a chance to get out soon. If it shoots as demo’ed then I’m a happy camper. The bolt works fine now. Got my gun cerakoted and passed on getting it engraved. Plus my scope arrived around new years. Just wanted to let people know that the KZfaqrs and top competitors experience is most likely not going to be indicative of your experience. Makes sense since they provide the most influence. Then again, maybe my experience is the exception. Good luck and may your shots never stray from the black.
@EagleEyeShooting

You stated that you sent out the rifle to cerakote when you got it. If the cerakoted the whole action, theirs the problem with the grittyness. Sent an email to follow up. Thanks for reaching out. The picture of the rifle and groups shot was sent over after I testing your rifle

CZ's are not a Rim-X or Vudoo in regards to smoothness. I built a great barrel for a CZ, I didn't build the action. They do wear in and feel smooth after a while. Go shoot the rifle and😉 I don't recommend a 25in barrel for a CZ due to the action design. Chamber and barrel twist is laser marked on the barrel.
@Chickidy
@Chickidy 5 ай бұрын
Scott, this is kinda disappointing to hear. I know you didn't get to speak with Kenny personally but you did speak with me. To be honest your rifle was a very straight forward build. I didn't feel the need to schedule a call with Kenny. We do have over 300 clients so Im not sure what experience you were looking for. A 25 inch barrel was never a question because we would never offer a 25 inch barrel for a CZ457. We also do not offer laser engraving as an option or service. Cerakoting setup did take longer then expected, due to delays in our shop not being completed on time. I did have Robi from dpcerakote reach out to you personally and offer for you to send your rifle back at a discount, just because I knew you wanted it. Dpcerakote also had no lead time when she offered it. Also, in regards to the chamber, that is all listed under our CZ457 in the description of the build, where you clicked to place the order for your rifle. Every detail about the chamber and specs is listed there. The smoothness of the action is also dependent of the manufacturer of the action. Kenneth always tests every rifle down range personally. We did provided you pictures and feedback of its performance. Once you finally get a chance to shoot the rifle and your not satisfied, please reach out to me on our website or give me a call. -Ashley

Very interesting video. I rebarrel Anschutz rifles and Achievers and I like your thermal fit routine and will try it. I use green loctite cylinder retainer and wondered if you had considered that. And if so, why you chose to use blue loctite instead? Thanks for the video
@EagleEyeShooting
@EagleEyeShooting Жыл бұрын
Loctite 243 is resistant to chemicals vs green. I have seen corrosion caused with cleaning substances such as Hoppe's with green loctite. The tennon area between the action and barrel will be subject to our cleaning chemicals to pool and may cause this corrosion between. I do not need a permanent adhesive as the thermal fitment process suffices

Hi Kenny I have a question. I know that 26 inch barrel are best for 22lr. accuracy up to 200 to 300 but is it for longer shots ? I mean, as a 26 inch barrel is slowing the bullet speed compared to a 16 inch, which one is better for 400 to 500 yards ? Will the gain in speed of a 16inch help more with the accuracy at this distance or the 26inch will still be more accurate even if the bullet is more sensitive to wind ? Is there a compromise, like a 22 inch ? Thank you for all your quality work !

If a person truly wants precision, it seems that a custom DPGunworks-built CZ 457 will produce better and more reliable results than a factory Vudoo or Rim-X and at a better price. And, as a bonus, the mags are cheaper and more reliable. Seems like an easy choice.

My current target rifle is an Anschutz 54 30 used in 50 Metre Olympic style shooting with aperture sights. The barrel on this is threaded at the tenon and screwed into the receiver like a centrefire rifle. The earlier 19 series Anschutz target rifles had heat shrink methods used to fit the barrels to the receiver. Have you ever experimented with threading the CZ action and screwing on the barrel?
@howardjohnson5734
@howardjohnson5734 8 ай бұрын
hi what is the advantage or threading the action and barrel ?something to do with harmonic transfer ?
@alandickson7991
@alandickson7991 8 ай бұрын
@howardjohnson5734 The advantage is a more rigid connection between receiver and barrel, which is conducive to better accuracy, especially with a floating barrel where the only connection of action to stock is at the receiver. It is also a stronger connection, important with the higher pressures of centrefires when the locking lugs are located in the receiver.
