It wasn't Rue and Betty's request to switch roles. They both wanted to play Blanche, but the role was thought for Betty. It was Jay Sandrich, the Pilot Director, who watching Rue reading Rose noted she wasn't right for that character, so he asked her to read Blanche, she nailed it!!. He knew Betty could do a great Rose, hence, then and there, decided the switching of roles.. Rue was thrilled; Betty, not so much, she didn't know who Rose was. She learned to love it.. 🪻🌿

Not only did Rue and Bea work together before, but so did Betty and Rue. They played Ellen and Fran (respectively) on Mama's Family.

What nonsense. This show premiered in 1985. The baby boomers were in our 30s and early 40s at that time. This show wasn’t aimed at us. The baby boom dates from 1946 to the early 1960s. So some were even younger. I was watching Night Court, Cheers, Kate & Allie, and the Cosby Show. Couldn’t have cared less about the Golden Girls. Later in the 80s it was Thirtysomething and The Wonder Years. And did anybody think this show was filmed in FL? How stupid do they think we are? Like we don’t know what studios and sets are? Had to stop watching this, my eyes were rolling out of my head. 🙄

They played on Maude, not All in the Family. (Rue & Bea) Bea played Edith's cousin in All in the Family.

It's not hard to imagine Elaine Stritch in the role of Dorothy. But I am glad the part went to Bea Arthur though. She brought a unique warmth, depth and humanity to Dorothy in a way that balanced and melded perfectly with the other characters. She really was an inspired choice and I am so glad Rue McClanahan was able to talk her into doing it. I also think Bea was right to call time when she did, leaving us with a wonderful canon of Golden Girls.

One thing I have't heard discussed is how the set designers would fashion a nice middle class home like the one the GG's lived in, and not have a formal dining room. Just a fairly small kitchenette. When there were scenes with larger dinners served, the cast usually sat at a large table on the lanai.

The Bette Midler part is not what I heard. Bette Midler supposedly asked too much money and they took Andrew Gold instead. Also, Bea had a controlling ego and hated Betty because she couldn’t control her. She would tell Betty not to interact with the audience, that it wasn’t professional. Betty, not thinking herself above anyone, continued to be herself with the audience. Bea also criticized Betty for messing up her lines, and there’s a blooper where Betty gets her back for Bea messing up her lines. You can see Bea getting upset because Betty got her back. And Bea was expecting to be the first of the four to get an Emmy. You can see her face of disgust when it went to Betty. Conclusion: Bea was just jealous of Betty.

Lots of inaccuracies. The whole Elaine Stritch part was wrong. The network wanted her, but she forced profanity in her audition and Susan Harris wasn’t happy. Bea and Rue were not in All in the Family together. Though they both appeared on it, it wasn’t together and Rue didn’t play Vivian. The announcer couldn’t pronounce Zbornak correctly either.

My favorite golden girls Dorothy, Blanche and Sofia, in that order. One of the nicest shows !

I’ve actually seen the footage of Bea and Rue leaving an awards show and being asked a few questions as they exited. One of the film crews asked Bea why she left the show and Bea said “because Bette White is a k*nt!!” and o don’t know how they’ve done it, but it’s been completely eradicated from the internet, yet I saw it with my own eyes the same day (or day after) it happened, and Rue screamed when Bea came out with it!! Bea was starting to look really unwell and probably knew the prognosis wasn’t good, so she was even more carefree when interacting with others, or the camera!! But it’s not an urban myth, Bea really did say it, and she MEANT it too, looolol! She wasn’t playing!! 🌟

They got a bunch of things messed up in here, like they must have had orange see-through glasses, because I remember seeing them drink orange juice a lot in the morning, what appeared to be through clear glasses, and be author and rue McClanahan never worked together on All In The Family, it was Mauld that they worked together on, neither one of them even worked on All In The Family, even by their selves, they both played as guest stars on one episode a piece, but not together, Rue McClanahan played in the episode, to wear Edith thought that her and Archie's life, with kind of boring, they never did anything fun anymore, and she was looking for other couples that might be going through the same thing, that they could meet and maybe go out with, and become friends, so not knowing how to go about finding someone, she had answered a article in the paper, for a pen pal, in the "personals" part of the paper, not knowing what personals men't, and the add she answered said, feeling like you just need to find that kink and spice again, well we are a married couple seeking to find other married couples, for a time full of exotic activities, this includes personnel meetings, at your home or ours, for some dancing, games, maybe even a film or two, just to get things started and into the right mood, then is that to have some erotic, swinging, dancing, company, and maybe even a magic show, that you will never ever ever ever ever ever ever forget, and she thought that they were coming over for dancing, and to have dinner, and just be a friend, she thought that swinging was swing dancing, and it turned out that the character that Rue McClanahan played the swingers wife that came over, with her husband, and as they were enjoying dancing, there was a knock at the door, which was Louise Jefferson, who came over to borrow a pot, but was taken back when the husband said great the more the merrier, so when she got in the kitchen she asked Louise what did he mean by that, and she said he was just probably being nice, although I can't be sure we don't know then we just met them, and Louise said well who are they, and Edith told her, and showed her the paper, and then she explained it to Louise, back-to-back out into the living room, and Rue McClanahan's TV husband, gratis to pick up where they left off, on showing her the new moves and dancing, and she said no no no no no screaming I don't want to know know new moves, and then she showed Archie the paper, and said that she made a big mistake, and just as he turned it around, the guy was setting up his camera equipment, and you had already changed into a naughty girl lingerie, made outfit, with a spank me belt, and when you saw that big white face, of Archies, turn completely bloodshot red, from the neck up, it was priceless, and so funny you could piss on yourself, now that's what I call a real redneck, he could turn red on, like nobody's business, like his face literally would turn red from the neck up on that show, it was hilarious, I think actually B Authors guest appearance turned into two episodes, but one story, you know how it says to be continued, and that's when they were all sick, and Edith called for her cousin Molly to come up, but her and Archie Bunker's hated each other, and he sent her to telegraph, telling her not to do it and don't that foot into their house, of course she was on the next thing smoking to New York, to not only take care of her family, but to piss Archie off, even throwing him out of his own bedroom, and sleeping in the same bed with her cousin Edith, and vowed that she would not be leaving, for at least 2 weeks, or until everyone in the house, were over the flu, and she will be taking care of all of them, even Archie, and it happens I'll be there highest rated episode, even though they were the number one sitcom on at the time, and it got to be all of this fan talk, from fans and producers, that the enormous ratings, and what got everyone to talking about if there's one particular double episode, was that never before had anyone saw Archie Bunker's literally be put in his place, and had to take it, because my Mauld wasn't no pushover, and the audience loved that, but it also made them fall in love with her, an instantly, they were asked to try and write her into the show, but it just wouldn't work, there was no spot, that would be able to follow her life and the Bunker's, and with all in the family, being and it's a day and at the top of his game, there could be a spin-off for her either, but Norman knew this was too good of a chance to pass up, and that's when he decided, to just write a whole new show, just for Mauld, and that's how that's all came about, and ran for something like 12 seasons I think.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Just to show how much they caught lightening in a bottle in getting the right people and the right writers etc they tried to do a British version. although they managed to attract a stellar cast and used the same scripts albeit slighly changed for english references- it was fucking garbage. it was called The Brighton Belles and lasted only a few episodes before quietly dying.

This was my absolute all-time favorite show, along with All in the Family was first, and then this one, and Golden girls I've seen every single episode, along with every other gay man, in America, but anyhow, and some of my others was Mama's family, Sanford and son, especially the episodes with Cow, & Aunt Esther, and I absolutely loved Mauld, and I always said because I cannot stand racist people, everyone knows that about me, I am 50/50 minutes, with african-american, my mother's 100% african-american, and my father is 100% Sicilian, however Archie Bunker's what's my favorite prejudice white guy, and Fred Sanford was my favorite prejudice black guy, George Jefferson was my first favorite prejudice black guy, but that was when he was on all in the family, it just wasn't the same to me when they got their own show, I just thought that him and Archie made a great team, and I even loved The Golden Palace, when B Arthur quit, I don't know why the ratings weren't up, I would love it and never miss the episode, and everyone I knew that was the Golden girls loved it as well, I mean it was a big shimmy when she quit, but it was the perfect spin-off, maybe they would have had more luck without doing a spin-off, and renting out Dorothy's room, to another person, that could have won over our hearts, just like all in the family was never the same when Edith died, and the kids left the show, but we loved Archie Bunker's Place.🤷‍♂️

It opened the way for the "conventions" ie cosy suburban, mum dad and three kids scenarios to be upstaged which had been the major fare of these media for zonks, except for rare but remarkable diversions by very brave geniuses whom we all know, who made really remarkable masterpieces which you can access if you don't know about them, for a tiny start check out director Billy Wilder et al. Far too much else to even start on the list here. Bea Arthur was a pain in the butt. She didn't like Betty because she was always happy! I didn't like Bea very much but the rest of the cast was great!!

I hate this story, it is so wrong. I am not saying that their mothers haven't died, but the question is did they ever do anything else to comfort their mothers that is truly heroic, except morning about the deaths of them? It doesn't say anything if they had maybe sibling(s) that took the hard part in taking care about well-beings of those now passed mothers. So how can we tell that they (e.g., Betty and Bea) had actual feelings of grief at all? This story and the theme is completely wrong. Yes, my father and mother passed away, and I have two sisters from the same parents, but while they two were "griefing" hundreds of miles away from the coziness of their homes and environments, I was the one who took for two years hardest hit (on all accounts - financial, personal health, personal well-being, psychological, etc., it took me five years to recover from caused trauma and PTSD) on taking care of my parents. I was the one who provided their lives to end in dignity and with the less pain possible. Nobody else but I. And they accepted condolences as if they've done it. Where in the nature they were the worst type of people existing. So, the question is - who is the greatest griefer here, and who is the real hero that took the hardest blow from that? This story is wrong. I hate delusional and unnecessary stories like this. This is hypocrisy at it's worst. Yikes.
