In 2002 the Fairbanks Morse Cordwood Saw seen in previous videos was purchased at an antique engine rally. It's condition was not very good but that wasn't enough of a deterrent to preclude running it with my 6HP Fairbanks Morse Z engine. This test is an example of what not to do when evaluating a new machine. The frame was part of Model T Ford car with a flimsy wood and strap iron tilt table. While not the safest exercise it provided insight into what improvements were needed. It is also a demonstration of the utility of good belt dressing. After this test the machine was rebuilt with a channel iron frame. The blade guard and table fence iron were reused. The result is a useful saw.
Note: If you think something is too dangerous for you to do then don't do it. I exercise great caution when doing a test like this. Keeping body parts intact is paramount.
