*I'm deaf in my right ear which is why I'm not wearing headphones. I know, it's a bummer not to get the panning sounds. It's also been a bummer to only have one ear my whole life for lots of other reasons, like, playing telephone growing up, I was terrible at it. But, I'll be ok, and I'm getting both channels in the earbud, thanks for your concern :)

He's a crooner. and a rapper. and a metalhead. and an opera singer. Patton is a musical genius, and, imo, the best vocalist alive. His range is ridiculous, and FNM is a VERY eclectic band. Probably my favourite band ever.

Oh hell yes! This is one of my favorite FNM songs.. its the genre range of Patton and his vocal range.. this man isn't human. Coolest vibe in this song. The vintage porn wah pedal..the jazz solos..when thinking of the meaning for this song and many more, if your mind is in the gutter you're in the right place 😆 Love it..

im glad you went to this song after epic, the thing about Patton is he crosses genres and unless you're introduced to the right songs to get a feel for his insane talent you can be turned off by some other stuff by assuming this is all he does. the truth is he does it all. it bodes well that you know his compositional work but before and after FNM there is a literal rabbit hole of creative genius to fall into. in regards to his vocals, he is know for having the widest vocal range of any singer currently living. 6+ octaves. there are some YT vids showcasing his range but id suggest continuing to draw on tracks from his many bands & collabs. he did the soundtracks for Crank: High Voltage & Bunraku, he did the creature voices in "I am Legend" and voices in a few games including Left 4 Dead. (lots of squeals & screams). if i could criticize him on anything (as a die hard Patton fan) its that lyrically he is often "not deep" but that is more in service of his vocal gymnastics by truly using his voice as an instrument, meaning the sound is his priority, not the words. just a few suggestions that might help for early consumption. if this doesnt scare you off, go nuts. Tomahawk - God Hates a Coward (live) Lovage - Book of the Month Mr Bungle - Quote Unquote Mr. Bungle - Retrovertigo Mr. Bungle - Carry Stress in the Jaw Peeping Tom - Mojo (Live) Peeping Tom - We're Not Alone Fantomas - Spider Baby Fantomas - Twin Peaks (Come FIre Walk With Me) Dillinger Escape Plan w/Mike Patton - Pig Latin Faith No More - A Small Victory Faith No More - Strip Search Faith No More - Ugly in the Morning Mondo Cane - Deep Deep Down (Live)

Faith No More are extremely versatile and Mike Patton was about 20 when he recorded Epic and Falling to Pieces and he was following a guy who rapped. The whole album was written and he added vocals. The next albums he was more involved in the writing and wasn’t boxed in having to rap. They also are heavy as shit sometimes. The song Malpractice would be another version of this band you would not expect.

Faith No More (and Mike Patton through is many different projects) is a band that changes and mixes styles a lot. Their style is fusion. For instance, their song "Just A Man" starts as a traditional asian like song and end with a gospel choir. Also, I know that you like to interpret the lyrics but Mike Patton as said many times that he doesn't pay much attention to the meaning of lyrics, he only cares about the musicality of the words.

FNM are in my Ten-Bands-I'd-Rather-Be-Dead-Than-Lose™ list. *Proper* genius. Something for every mood, to be sure.... but if your range is even wider than FNM, just check out some of Mike Patton's other projects!! If you do check out more FNM music, I would caution against trying to make sense of videos. Regardless of whether you make any reaction vids to their songs tho, I'd suggest clearing an hour sometime to take in an album as an album. Anything from "The Real Thing" onwards.... *sigh* listen to ME, as I won't steer you wrong. If you're not a huge FNM fan, listen to the following songs (instead of whatever evolved into people's favorites over time): "The Real Thing", "Zombie Eaters", "Everything's Ruined", "A Small Victory", "Ricochet", "Just a Man", "Collision", "Ashes to Ashes", "Sunny Side Up", and "Cone of Shame." That is a list of the best 2 songs (subjectively) for reactors to check out from each of their albums with Patton. No oddball "it had to grow on me" selections in that list. All killer, no filler.

Warning! Non-Child-Friendly Response: There's been some debate about it being much more a metaphor about relationships, but the wording and the images of the video (note the clawing woman, the police line up, and other details) the most common meaning gathered is it's about rape and "washing away the taste of evidence" by oral after it. As he's very much a smartass on stage, he often tosses out some sort of comment about "and this one is for the ladies" at the opening of the song.

Mike Patton is a different kind of animal, and I love him for it. I believe he has the widest vocal range, or he could be tied with someone else, at the moment. Either way, incredibly impressive. I've loved FNM since the beginning. Always something different. I recently read an article that boasted MP as the busiest man in metal. I believe it. He has been in many bands, done movie scores, video games, he even did the voices for the monsters in that awful (in my opinion) movie, I am Legend. Please do more FNM! I wish they made the video with the album version, which is far superior to the edited single. Oh, and don't dare try pigeon hole FNM, especially Mike Patton, you'll lose every time, embarrassingly! Another thing, why do reviewers always over analysis every set of lyrics? They're just an accompaniment to the music, they don't have to mean anything.

@@SuperJersh No, you're wrong. The human voice is unique to the individual, that's why we enjoy different singers. Can you understand every Michael Jackson lyric or every rap or death metal lyric? No, the same way you can't understand a foreign language song. The voice is another instrument, if it's got a specific meaning then that's a bonus and that's all it is.

@@SuperJersh because we can encompass more in a human voice than in a melody. mrNMO I’m saying use the human voice to sing a melody without lyrics if lyrics don’t matter. If a band puts lyrics in a song, they matter, which is why people may think about them or talk about them just like they do for the drums, guitar, singing etc.
