Well every time that I think I am read to start my duck I come across more supplies that I will need. Do I need to use a tumbler with waterfowl? What does it actually do? Thanks

You don’t have to have a tumbler. Some people use it to tumble the wet skin in saw dust so it takes the moisture out. I have never had a tumbler. I used to have saw dust box that I would tumble my skins by hand in there using corn cub saw dust. But haven’t even used that for a long time. I keep changing methods.

Another great video as always...How do you carve your foam forms? They always look perfectly symmetrical and fit the bird that you are mounting. Could you please do a foam form carving video?

Thanks a lot. I will.. my problem is not having enough time for video production. I carve all my bird bodies (25+ at a time) in a couple of days and then start mounting them one at a time, and I have a lot of projects waiting to get done. so mounting a bird where the camera is just filming what I do is the most possible thing I can do.. still have to come and edit it.. lotta work..

It sounds like you are mega busy with lots of new projects..I found the waterfowl washing film really informative...a similar foam carving one would help so many novices like myself. no comparison.. two totally different jobs. each has its own challenges and difficulties.

So I have watched just about all of your videos on waterfowl. I am a little confused on how to choose the head of the ducks if I am just going to order them from a supply company. Are they some specific measurements that I need to take? Do you have any videos showing more explanation on head size? I know you make your own heads at your shop, but I am not that far along yet and would just rather purchase them for now. Thank you

Hi Julio it’s very simple. In fact most waterfowls have only a female and male head. Only a few of them might have small, medium or large. I usually match the length only. From the front of beak to the back of the skull. Most suppliers have all the measurements on their catalogues, you can follow them. But for example if you have a female shoveler , chances are 95% of all female shovelers are the same size. So they are not like deer heads that have a whole pile of variety of sizes.

Always carve. This way they always fit like a glove.
