Adding my ten cents for anyone stopping in here to learn: In a finger four, route, echelon or other 45ish-aspect forms, stay far enough ahead so that the lead can spot you without straining his neck. The point of form is MUTUAL support, he needs to be able to check your six as much as you need to check his, or suddenly you got a bandit echeloning his way onto you both, and you're dead :) Wingtip missile rail tip should aproximately overlap the front edge of the air inlet, that's a great spot.

I'll speak on this because I built the mission. Normally in a campaign this is true. But the TE I built doesn't have an active EWS and doesn't have active squadrons of opfor aside from the 2 ship Mig-21/23 flight that intercepts us later in the video. So regardless of how you egress you have two options in the mission in post strike. Go west and have a shorter trip but higher quality interceptors. Or East on the coast and have a longer trip but easier egress against Mig-21's.

1. You are correct. I misspoke. 2. I did not know he had a missile fired at him because he used the incorrect brevity code. He said "defensive" when he should have said "singer 3, right 3 oclock." This is a good example of why you need to know how to communicate complex info, or stop trying to use brevity altogether and just blurt out something accurate. Ideally I would have separated a bit, looked for the incoming missile and told him when to break. But we needed to be tight as it was a popup.

Though "I'm" new to this, you MAY know that "Knock-it-off" is a FORMAL term/phrase meaning "stop maneuvering". I thought the same...at first before I read the manual. And, recall, HE (Krause) is the SENIOR pilot, basically "teaching" other pilots; even if they ARE the lead. Just saying.

One thing to add: you might wanna use the A/A Tacan. It really helps in being precisely in position, and gains SA when you are blind. And one question: Can you do a Tutorial about working with the AI Wingmen? They seem to refuse to kill anything when it comes to ground targets (BAI), no matter If I am the lead or number 2. Thanks in advance, and btw Awesome Videos! Keep it up!

it depends... being that close to the leader during popup can be harmfull if your lead gets shot.. you should use time deconfliction.. ie climbing in diffrent altitudes or braking into the target a 1-2 seconds after the leader..

also I generally get told by lead trail by several miles - we hit the target in sequence. over the target area the same time he is calling off, im calling on. if lead goes defensive against a ground threat, then that shouldnt affect my attack unless I hear otherwise from lead.

wouldnt NOE flight been a better idea on ingress? noticed that you only went NOE when you reached the radar range of the local threats - but as in falcon different systems do communicate, if a ground station or their awacs picked you up, you would have had interceptors incoming pretty quick - also you would have been more noticeable with the jammer on too.

@eddievhfan1984
@eddievhfan1984 8 жыл бұрын
+Nenad Momic You have to place threat steerpoints over the recon'd SAM/AAA/airbase threats. I forget what the default steerpoint numbers are for that, but when you're in the briefing, you can right-click a threat and select the option to place a steerpoint there. Make sure that the threat listed on the STPT matches the one you've selected, otherwise the correct engagement range won't be placed, and you might find yourself screwed...

As an F-16 pilot I would say there is a lot of inaccurate information here. When flying low level enroute to bomb a target we never flew in the extended route position (ie in a cone behind lead). We always flew line abreast for mutual support. If there is a 4 ship, the second two ship (3 and 4) flew line abreast about 1 mile in trail in an offset box. This gives the best offensive and defensive positions for the flight to get everybody to the target and back in one piece. In the position you flew, who is checking your 6? And if an enemy showed up at your 6 lead is not in a position to do anything about it. Furthermore, as a wingman you always have to be aware of where you are because lead may get shot down, have an emergency or aircraft malfunction and you have to be ready to take the lead of the flight. I've had this happen many times as both a wingman and lead in my 13 years of flying the Viper. This "what if" is always briefed in the flight brief. We always had a plan, and a backup to the plan, and a backup to the backup. The only time you are fixated on lead is in fingertip formation when you want to look pretty as a flight coming up initial. (At a distance of 6 feet you can only afford a brief glance at your instruments). But in a tactical flight you need to be looking around for enemy threats. You are far enough away from lead (usually about 1 mile) you can comfortably aviate, navigate and communicate. You should never be fixated on lead. You need to know when you are approaching a turn point and especially the IP so you can execute the planned attack. The run in to the target cannot come as a surprise. You have to be thinking ahead of the jet and be ready the entire flight, from engine start to shutdown. When you slipped into trail approaching the target your mutual support was ZERO. You were padlocked on lead while SAM's were being launched at you and you never knew it, nor could you warn lead if he didn't see them. Something that doesn't get replicated in the tactics in this game is the actual attack. In reality lead and wing fly different parameters and "action" at different points to get separation during the final attack. Often when making this type of popup attack, lead will make a 10 or 20 degree attack (depending on ordinance, target and many other factors) while wing makes a 20 or 30 degree attack. You don't come down the chute at the same time in formation. From the "action" point to pop up, you are on your own and need to concentrate on your attack, hit your numbers and find your target. That is the whole reason you came all this way. You put your life on the line to get there and kill the target. Hoping to see it at the last second on your bomb run is not the way to effectively attack the target. And even though your 4 ship is attacking the same general target (a nuc plant in this case) you will each have a very specific point you aim for to maximize the damage. Picking out your specific target is harder than you think. In your mission you attacked a huge building. What if you were attacking individual radar vehicles or SAM launchers that are camouflaged? After bombs away you know where to find lead and where to look for him but your main focus after pissing off the enemy is to see if anyone is shooting back at you and take evasive action and come home alive. If you loose sight of lead (not a good thing but it happens regularly) you know which way to egress and you have radar to help find him once the threat level is cranked down a little.

Thanks for the comments. I made these 10 years ago. There's a mix of two things going on: in some cases I know what you "should" do but won't say it in the videos because the audience of the videos is complete noobs who are struggling to do the absolute basics like stay visual. Second in some cases I just didn't know because I gained 10 years of experience since then. Helpful comments for sure!

We never stop learning! In fact the most dangerous time to be a fighter pilot is when you get to the 500 hr point. You're getting comfortable and perhaps a bit cocky. But you still are not aware of what you don't know or don't anticipate.

how far from target did you begin to pop up and roll onto it?
@tanit
@tanit 10 жыл бұрын
How far in a non-computed popup is on the discretion of the pilot, it's by definition not computed so whenever it feels right you do it. Within 3 miles is usually OK. Downside of doing it a non-computed is you are potentially in the air longer than you need to be and expose yourself to more risk and imprecision.

Krause Dis trailing tactics seem to be bullshit.. Like, when flying to target, it's OK, but when in target area, they need to break formation and concetrate on threats instead of concentrating on lead's ass.. I mean, at 17:47 you and all other wingmen are pretty much flying ducks to shoot at, cause you're padlocked on lead's anus and will not see any missile coming; for example, you can get fucked from behind, and lead cannot watch your six for obvious reasons; furthermore, I think a wingman needs to constantly watch to different directions in order to spot a threat/SAM launch and warn a lead/flight about it... When you're flying focused on lead, you're totally blind, I mean at 17:47 you easily can eat every missile, especially the IR one - you're low and blind, a perfect target, and you will get no warning about launch.. If this mission had MANPAD shooters in the area, you would eat it 100 times out of 100 if so focused on lead's butt. So I don't believe this crap is actually used by real pilots, they would be constanty eating sams if they would be flying like this in combat area.. Besides, I heard that missile simulation in Falcon BMS is bullcrap, like, missiles are way too easy to dodge and get fooled by pretty much every chaff or flare you shoot.. Try doing this padlocked-on-leads-rectum thingy in DCS, ya'll get fucked up in no time, missile physics and targeting are far more realistic :D

+Taurus K Poor missile simulation in BMS, try it in DCS and we'll get killed every time? The same DCS with AMRAAM's that can only hit targets from inside 15 miles?
@bulldozer1626
@bulldozer1626 9 жыл бұрын
Jester Sure, missile simulation in DCS is way better; in BMS, every missile is easily fooled by every flinch you make, and every chaff or flare you shoot. In DCS it is much harder to evade a missile. In DCS, AIM-120 can get you from 40-60km, why 15km? Maybe you mean that the probability of hitting a target within 15km is higher? - well, sure it is, as the enemy is left with far less time for going defensive. The point is, missiles in DCS are way more realistic and harder to evade. You can easily prove it by placing a couple of sams down, and flying over them. In DCS, you can evade a couple of their missiles but the next missile will own you. In BMS, you can fly between their missiles all day long, evading tens of them. This is bullcrap :) And this is the reason why poor tactics like those ("Imma look mostly at lead's ass and not at enviroment") work in BMS.

I love the look of this, but I'm slightly put off at the same time, usually in sims you get people who take it too seriously thinking they're real pilots, so you usually end up encountering abusive language especially if you're a new player. Gaz you dont have to worry about it, in the falcon community you will find that there is more cooperation than competition. The skills that you need to learn mean that there is no room for bad attitude on behalf of more experienced guys and you will see that hot headed individuals are the first to get shot down. Forget top gun, this thing needs teamwork.
@eddievhfan1984

Gaz Yeah, I would imagine so. Falcon/BMS ops aren't glorified PvP arenas with eye-candy "side-quests" like War Thunder or something like that. (yes, I tend to fly bombers in WT and always get picked off by enemy fighters because no one wants to provide air cover, and no, I'm not bitter about it...) The very nature of the threats and missions preclude that kind of egotistical behavior. However, I would say that before you get into large-scale multiplayer operations, train as much as you can in Instant Action or in 2-ship operations with an experienced friend. That'll help build up your confidence level and help make multiplayer less daunting.
@pdxholmes
@pdxholmes 9 жыл бұрын
Gaz I wouldn't worry about that. Falcon doesn't really have those kind of players. Will you occasionally get yelled at for doing something dumb? Sure, but I've never met a pilot who wouldn't apologize after the stress was over, and go over in detail exactly what mistake you made and how to fix it. I've never had abusive language thrown at me, or felt unwelcome as a newer pilot. Also, on some level, the reason a lot of people play BMS is because its "realistic", and you can play it with some level of professionalism...so you should expect to find people who do take it seriously, just not THAT seriously.
