::: ESSENTIAL CONTROLS :::
Trigger. Fires guns. / by default.
Pickle. Releases weapons. Space by default.
TMS-up. This locks onto targets using your radar. Ctrl up arrow by default. May not jump to this control by pressing ctrl up arrow, just look for HOTAS -- TMS UP.
TMS-down. Unlocks a target. Ctrl down arrow.
Antenna tilt down. Lowers radar attitude. F5
Antenna tilt up. Raises radar altitude. F7
Wheel breaks. k.
Chaff/flare. X.
DMS-down. Switches sensor of interest. right control-down arrow by default.
Radar slewing/radar cusor. Arrow keys. Assign to a HAT.
::: OPTIONAL CONTROLS, if you gave more buttons put these on your stick, otherwise know the keyboard commands :::
TMS right. Cycles between radar contacts of a group on FCR in TWS mode.
Gear down. G.
Cycle air to air hardpoints. Enter.
Cycle air to ground hardpoints. Backspace.
Air breaks toggle. shift-B.
Enable nose wheel steering. You have to enable this after you do a landing, otherwise you cant use the rudder to effectively turn your aircraft on the ground. Ctrl-shift /
Smoke on. Useful to know, makes your exhaust into a visible smoke trail. Useful for showing people where you are. left ctrl-s.

Rename it to yourCallSign.ini

Great tutorial! I just loaded BMS and I have to learn everything over again. I bought F3.0 then 4.0 and got pretty good at both; but I feel the level of complexity of this is far beyond 4.0.

Thanks for the vids! Well done and to the point. Something I noticed as I was setting up my countermeasures programs, was that the time intervals (both of them) would only take the number 5 or 0. If I pressed any other number, '5' would show up.

Great video, taint. I find it helpful to set the joystick axis deadzone to "none"in Controllers - > Advanced -> Flight Controls. This is especially helpful for aerial refueling. A deadzone creates an area in the center that you have to push through before the joystick takes effect. This plays havoc with formation flying and refueling ops. Your joystick's drivers may also have deadzone or "axis shaping" that needs to be turned off or adjusted.

Krause you're confusing "Bogey Dope" with "Picture." Bogey dope is flight or aircraft specific and is in BRAA - Bearing Range Altitude. Hot is always assumed. "Picture" is for all players and is actually the Big Picture. This is a very good tutorial. I'll be happy to answer any questions I can.

@musicduct Google Korea map for navigation in BMS 4.32 - it's an interactive online map where you can click on all the airbases and it brings up tower freq, ils, runway headings etc

Hi Krause, do you know how to clear the command a button is binded too? For example if button 6 is binded to dogfight mode is it possible to "clear" it so that button 6 does nothing? I started getting into my flight stick profiler and I need to clear the binding for it to work properly, if that's any help.

Any idea how I can set up Joystick Buttons as modifiers? For example trim button 6+5+POV Hat? I have a Thrustmaster T-Flight Stick X and it is basically Plug&Play without any macro software. In DCS this works fine but now I am kinda lost. I really want to set it up like in DCS - so I don't need to relearn and even more important unlearn what I brutally practiced in DCS. Now I would also have to forgoe some in my opinion important functions. Sadly no money for a new Joystick, TrackIR hurt bad!

When I go to ask AWACS I cant see the words in the box for any of it tanker , tower , awacs , and wingmen. Do you know what that is about.

It's done through a data link between aircraft, it's fairly simple to set up. Have a look at Krause's Data Link video, it's got a great explanation on all of it's features.

WOW, I used to fly with the Freebirds VFW with the standard SP3 or SP4 (I forgot which, it's been years). I just recently got back into F4 and I was beginning to think the DMS hat switch controls weren't working along with the CMS LOL.

Hello, Great tutorial! Can you combine keyboard and joystick buttons like in DCS? For example for A-10C i have "alt+POV LEFT=DMS LEFT", "ctr=POV LEFT=TMS left" "win+POV LEFT=Slew TGP left" etc

To anyone that has questions about what the tower frequency is if you aren't setting it up in the data cartridge, or are diverting to a different airfield that you don't have programed in, you can manually change the frequency while in flight using the DED. If you look in the Documents folder in your BMS installation folder there are several checklists and the manuals. The main manual (currently Dash-34), has a list of the "blue force" airfield freqs. Clear skies and good tailwinds all!

How do I invert the throttle axis? Some kind of imbecile appears to have though it would be a good idea to leave it without the inversion checkbox. How do I make all axes works on my joystick, trottle and pedals? The settings allow to choose only one device for axes.

Thank you Krause, awesome info. I have to ask my mouse is messed up. The standard set: the large plus curser was in middle of screen and mouse worked by passing over switches and knobs , left button turn off ,right button turn on . This is no longer now you have hold the right button down and try moving it over console ,it’s to hard to do and still fly , how do I reset mouse?

+Jay Johns you first have to set your data cartrige before starting otherwise flares and chaff wont work and you wont be able to contact tower and the displays in the cockpit will not work properly . by the way im also new to this game but i just found this out by watching this channel.

I safely land on the ground keeping speed maintained and following the landing procedures. but when I hit the run way and slows down at 10 or 12 I can not movie my tires right or left. So, I can not bring the plane to original place after landing. Need help

Really nice of you to do this. I started with BMS a few weeks ago and have gone through many training sessions using the original Falcon 4.0 manual. But some things are different in BMS and makes that a bit difficult. Right now I struggle most with getting radio contact with airfields and landing using only instruments. is there some charts online to the airbases frequenzees?

Hello, just getting into BMS... Could you make a video about the "how to fly multiplayer"? How many servers are there? How populated are they? Do they have passwords and is a certain skill level required to join? I'm really into BMS, I come from DCS, but that sim really isn't optimized very well for my computer... I also like the f16 more as a platform. Also, what would be the best graphics setup the have the highest fps...yet good visuals? thanks a lot in advance! -Verdi

just neighborly tip, cap'n krause, it's "brakes" not "breaks". a mass find/replace could work well...... for the killer lists you've done and updated :) GREAT show, man..... thanks, know this is pre-4.33 but absolutely helpful. I've been schlepping an Extreme 3D Pro with weakened solder joints or renegade peanut-butter-n-jelly in contacts; been using Alt/Space for pickle/release til I replace current stick. The point on "apply" AFTER "save"...... does the sequence matter; i've been baffled by some apparent key-bind losses.

I tried this. It will not save my control layout. When I go to load *my* layout, it loads BMS Full instead. Every time. I am using a Thrustmaster HOTAS X. Does that have something to do with it?

Hey Krause, any way to have the data cart set automatically by default for each missions without having to go in and tag every single target each mission? Wouldn't this stuff be set by ground ops and be ready after the pilot briefing? This is a nice to have but seems pretty tedious. Don't have as much time as I used to to fly. Can't imagine having to repeat this for every mission.

Be aware many of the key bindings discussed here near the start of the video no longer apply to BMS 4.33 so new players are encouraged to view the BenchmarkSims website or consult the latest manual.

1. That was an awsome useful tutorial. 2. I set the default uhf for channel 15, I went to fly ramp start and I could succesfully communicate, but when I wanted to fly the landing final aproach mission, I couldn't request my landing clearence? what am I doing wrong? 3. How can I toggle the EWS programs? I tried to do that on the DED but i couldn't succeed.

andy smarandescu There is a dial switch in the cockpit. I think you can also assign a HOTAS switch to change the program.

Not easily. It's possible, but you have to edit the keys file to do it. There is a thread on how to do it on the BMS forum but I could never be bothered myself.

You have to use direct-x shift keys. It's not very easy, you have to manually edit the key files. I'd recommend asking on the BMS forums.

Franco Soto Yeah it's too annoying for me to mess with so I just don't use shift-keys. It's a shame because I prefer a HOTAS setup but it's too tedious to do. I don't have a thrustmaster or warthog so have to use a few keyboard commands.
