Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.

Marvelous! I watched a sharp shinned hawk in the back yard once with the bird it had caught. It hung around here for a few days - I could hear it call - but then left and hasn't come back.

Martin I came across your website on KZfaq and I have been watching and I'm in all of what you do you do a very delicate job with those birds healing them up and returning them to the wild I understand every now and then you're going to lose one that's heartbreaking but that's life the world needs more people like you with the mindset that you have you are a professional in the job that you do with those birds and speaking for everybody that I know we appreciate what you do keep up the great work and God bless you and your wife for the devotion you have to the wild birds love the bald eagles and the Falcons

You guys sent me to this video and what you said about the feathers makes so much sense. Now I understand about feathers. Watching Martin working with this beautiful bird is like watching a top class car mechanic working on a BMW. I really mean this, but GOD BLESS you guys for the amazing work and love you give to ALL animals. I wish all folk had the empathy you both have.❤👍

This is one of, if not the best of moments where I love technology. I'm very old school (as old as Martin and Susan but unlike them, I hate modern technology but this is one case that I'm happy about. Helping wildlife is a sort of passion of mine, even if I can't participate in helping, I can sit back and enjoy, cry tears of happiness. Only animals can get me to she'd tears besides some if my loved ones I've lost. Blessings to and for Martin and Susan and all the other people behind the scenes that help to make this foundation grow.....

Yes, they are primarily made of keratin, like fingernails, but they are usually worn down by use. Bathing also helps peel off the older layers of keratin.

I never tire of watching your videos and how taking care of those birds comes so natural to you. I have a question and it might sound silly but I couldn't help but notice how even with the hood on BG would flinch every time Martin would gesture with his hand when he was talking. How is she able to sense when he was doing that?

From the few videos I've seen with this man and his birds, he has a very good trusting relationships between him and his birds and that's why they are calm with him and he does not need to "drug" his birds to trim the beaks and once he is done the birds know that he has helped the birds and has made it better for his birds

@@danebouck8208 you could have answered that person's question in the same time it took you to respond the useless way you choose to instead. Why choose to do something like that, to agitate? Which you are fully aware that was your intention. What if the writer didn't understand the video and did watch it? What if there was a translation issue? What if they had a crying baby in the background and didn't have time to watch the whole thing? Someone asked Simple question. It wasn't even directed at you specifically, it was YOU who chose to enter that strangers life and pass on shitty energy. Choose better next time, or just don't answer. I can't answer the question since you irritated me so much that a few min into the video I read this intentional crappy comment you actually put effort into sending. No doubt many people read your crap and so you've affected many ppl. Seriously, stop assuming you know everything and don't be a jerk. Especially for such a simple question.

Sherry, I am so sorry that your little friend Lucy passed away. Yes, until recently I have kept parakeets as pets for many years. I enjoy their cheerful chatter and beautiful colors. Martin and I raised parakeets, cockatiels, lovebirds, canaries and finches for many years when we had a full service pet store. Egg binding was not a common problem, however it did happen occasionally. Thank you for your kind words and I hope that your heart will heal after loosing your best friend. Susan Tyner
