Fall Out Boy is often referred to as an alternative rock / pop punk band living their glory days during the 2000s. What people tend to forget though, is that they actually had their first big hit during the 80s with this song. Hard to believe, right?

Summer of 83’ met the most beautiful girl in the world that year. Sadly I made the mistake of rushing things and drove her away/lost her. This was our song, Karen if you see this it’s Johnny. I’ll never forget our trip to the mountains and you saying we’d live forever. Hope you’re doing good, and don’t be a stranger

This song came on when I took my first girlfriend out on a midnight drive back in ‘87 to get some milkshakes from Paul’s Diner. I snuck out with my dad’s convertible and it started raining as we were cruising. I draped my Members Only jacket over her as she held my hand. I was on a high after getting a job at Circuit City. We drove through the rich part of town and I told her I was going to get rich from this new job and buy her a house out there. Funny how times change. I also remember thinking that in the future if we ever had some kind of device where we could play any song any time that this would be on it. I guess I predicted Spotify. All we need is for this song to get added on.

I remember when this came out back in '86, I was just a kid back then, but I remember that the world blamed Pete for breaking up the band, but it was really Patrick who lost control after losing the lead in "One Crazy Summer" to John Cusack. His abuse and on stage drama is what started Pete down that dark path, and then it was too late.

I remember going to a Fall Out Boy concert back in '84 with my mom. It was so great and I nearly cried when they played this song. Can't believe it's almost been 30 years since this song was released. I do wish Fall Out Boy could've gotten atleast one reunion after they broke up back in '96.

I know right? Like, Pete Wentz did great when he switched to My Chemical Romance after the break up, but he will always be Fall Out Boy's bassist to me.

It was the year of 88, and my dad went to prom with a a few of his mates. He went to go get some punch from the punch bowl and that's when he saw her, this beautiful young woman standing there all by herself. My dad instinctively walked towards her and that's when this song started playing. He asked her if she wanted to dance and the next thing you know they were both on the dance floor slow dancing to this song... Eleven years later, I was born. Man, time sure flies doesn't it? 🤔

When I was 16 in 1987, I lost my virginity to this song. I was at summer camp and lost it to a fellow counselor. We dated through college but sadly parted ways. I still cherish the memory.

Thanks for the memories. I was landing on a runway in Chicago, grounding all my dreams of ever really seeing California. That night the headphones delivered the words that I couldn’t say-in the form of this song. What a time, 1985

I remember the first time I listened to this song, sometime in 1985, my dad made me listen. He told me it was the top song on radio for California. I still listen to this song even today. I'm in collage right now, but I hope my kids can listen to this with me one day. Thanks dad. I love you. Hope you're up in heaven with wings, soarin' between the clouds, old man.

I was 10 years old at Camp Crystal Lake West. My parents sent me there because they were remodeling the house and I was just in the way. That summer I ended up having the greatest time of my life, and I met Pam Stefanksi. Her dad was this plumber that you saw on TV. The final night of camp after the Camp Olympics we sat on the dock while everyone was at the rec room for the end of camp dance, and we could hear this song. I was going to kiss Pam when these kids from across the lake at Camp Crystal Lake started screaming. I missed my opportunity and we had to go back to our cabins. She left early that next day because of something that happened at the other camp the night before. I never saw Pam again, because they closed the camps around that lake. To this day when I hear this song I remember Pam, and my summer of '89.

Ah I remember the summer of ‘85. I was at the roller rink when this guy shows up. We talked and laughed the whole time. This song was the slow dance song at the very end and we skated together. 5 years later and we got married. Thank you Fall Out Boy for bringing us together!

I remember my prom in 86, building up the courage to ask Becky for a dance to this song before we never saw each other again after graduation. My hands trembling and sweating as I looked at her from the other side of the hall. Finally standing up, closing my hands into a fist, burying my nails into the palm of my hand. As I walked up to her nervously, I imagined us getting married, having kids, 2 dogs and a white picket fence. 6 feet from her now and the quarterback stepped in front of me with a shit-eating-grin, took her hand and pulled her onto the dance floor, no words needed...that was that. Never saw Becky again. She may not remember me but golly gee do I remember her...

It was autumn, 1987. I held her hand as the red and amber leaves began to drift down silently. Trembling, I took the mixtape out of my pocket with the hit song Sugar We're Going Down on it. I handed it to her, and she kissed me on the cheek. From that moment I knew my life would never be the same again. At 14, I had met my soulmate. Now it's 2019, and although she passed away 7 years ago, I still play that tape around this time of year, and the red and amber leaves still fall silently.
