Intro: Taking a look at the training you should be doing in the autumn. This period is crucial if you want to have a great indoor and outdoor season.
0.19min Why you need to get your training right
You need a specific base, you need to train to avoid injury, you need to train specifically.
Don't neglect technique
1.02min Thoughts on tempo training & training volume
More is (not) better
Why would you want to 300m reps
Does tempo running benefit long & triple jumpers - I don't think so.
There are better ways to develop your specific jump fitness
2.18min How I start the training year
With increased drill volume
Utilising the new resistance inclusions
We do run! For example, walk back 60m ( up to 10)
Also done up hills
The jumpers run at a comfortable speed - we are not looking for high levels of lactate
3.00min Rest and adaptation
Thoughts on 400 hurdles re the LJ/TJ
Just to highlight the importance of adaptation - a consequence of rest and recovery
Alactic power is needed - this is how you should train. Your body wll adapt.
4.25min Speed
Speed is obviously vital. We start the year with some speed work inclusions
I introduce fast running 2-3 weeks into training
Acceleration and build-up runs to 95% - and bar work (these hold the athletes back a little, although of very high intensity).

Hi so if your getting ready for a 60 meter competion in 8 weeks would you say 120 to 150 meter sprints once a week with shorter sprints 40 to 60 meter sprints once a week as well on different days. With block starts and some hill sprints. Thanks

If your goal is a 60m race, you don’t need to run farther than 60m. I definitely wouldn’t run 100m or farther, except as a warmup. The 60m dash is unique among sprints in that there is absolutely no endurance component whatsoever. It is completely alactic, like jumping or weightlifting. You should be training like a weightlifter (in terms of programming, not in terms of exercises) - Lots of very short efforts on full rest.
